kaik, you stole my comment! : )
We in North America, have had farcical campaigns on ideologies for decades.
1950s and ongoing. The War Against Communism (mostly in USA) - FAIL.
1980s and ongoing, The War On Drugs - FAIL.
1990s and ongoing, The War On Child Poverty - FAIL.
Now, it's the War On Terrorism - doomed to FAIL.
There are social reasons why we have these problems - we do not live in a perfect world. Injustice prevails, and that will always breed social unrest. The 'global economy', and its billions of abused work slaves, which is now feeding the machine that makes the rich get even richer, is going to crash, and SOON.
The Western world needs to WAKE UP and stop the cultural imperialism, bleeding of natural resources, and the xenophobia. Ack, it's all too crazy. smdh

How do you overcome SHUNNING after leaving the organization and move on?
by suavojr init amazes me how many of you have left it all behind, including family, brothers and sisters, friends and a full network of people.
i for one cannot find the courage to breakaway, and this causes me great anxiety and stress.
it eats me alive to think that if i open my mouth everyone i know will simply turn their back on me.

I never got over it. But when I think about living a lie, in my family, I feel physically ill. So I made the right choice for me.

SHUNNING - Unchristian Psychological Torture
by EdenOne insome time ago, i wrote an extensive article on shunning and published it on my website.
since that website had views on doctrinal matters that no longer reflect my current stand, i took the website down.
however, my views on this matter are still current, and for the benefit of everyone here, i'm going to post the article here.

Giordano -- this is a matter of some concern, and hurtful to Oompa's family. His children did NOT shun him. His parents did at times. He suffered from bipolarism, and ran his motorcycle into a wall in his attempt to suicide. Because o this, he had many painful facial surgeries. His wife and he divorced, but he continued to have the support of her and his kids, as well as being a very wealthy man. Sadly, the bipolar won, and he was successful in the final attempt. :'( Please do not spread this rumour about his family shunning him. Thanks. -

And this is why I say "do your own research" ........... there will never be a consensus.
May the Force be with you!

I would advise everyone to do their own research. Look at the history, and the studies done by the USA gov't since the 1940s. There is a lot of 'fuzzy science' with little proof being posted. Individual studies can be skewed, and like tobacco, results can be made to support anything the researchers choose to support.
Do you own research! : )

3rdgen - yep, and spray first, ask questions later! It's not legal here, but I have a can of 'bear spray' that I keep in my bag just in case I get attacked by a 'dog' ... the 2-legged kind! A purse-size can of aerosol hair spray works great, too.

LoveUniHatesExams - Agreed. Just thought folks should know how deadly that can be. This I learned from an ex, who was in the 82nd Airborne.
He also taught me 'don't bring a knife to a gunfight' , haha, true. but seriously. A knife can easily be taken away, especially by a larger, more powerful man. So if you must carry a knife, make sure it fits your smaller hand and can be easily wielded. Keep in mind that knife piercing skin, and meeting bone, may cause you to feel squeamish - even though your life may be in danger, you are NOT trained to do this - and you may freeze at the last moment because of this.
Another reason why the throat punch is a good idea. It doesn't feel 'icky'. Makes sense to me!

If you are attacked, your best bet to disable your assailant (at close range) is to hit him in the throat. I carry my keys with a suitable large Swiss army knife which I can swing (unopened) - set of keys, your fist, anything. The attacker cannot breathe - literally - and will have to let you go.
This works every time, and easy to do. Be aware that this blow could be fatal.
