What was I thinking, all those years?
Worth an "amen" from the chorus, at least.
remember the holographic projections of princess leia and obi-wan kenobi in star wars?.
remember the universal translator used on star trek?.
a small company ( scln) has a drug (zadactin) in phase 3 trials that may be effective against cancer, liver disease,.
What was I thinking, all those years?

well, the best thing about being a fader is that you can still talk to dubs you meet.
they think they can us the contact to upbuild you and you use it to plant the seeds of 'truth' which is what i did in this situation.. last week when i was at the markets i saw a sister shopping and although i normally avoid dubs, i didn't this time.
i said hello and she was very happy to speak to me.
That's a lovely experience; thanks for sharing.

almost from the beginning, the bible student--jehovah's witness movement has had its severe critics.in the past criticism was ordinarily directed at its doctrinal, civic or blood transfusion issues.
some dissidents who broke with the society also censured the wt.authority struture and inconsistencies in wt.theology.a few attempted to take their concern to the general public.. beginning in about 1980 all of that changed.in the past little harm came to the society from their critics.however devastating criticism has been unleashed against the society, especially since 1980. this devastating criticism has been leveled at the heart of the society's history of ever-changing date setting speculation, shifting and changing doctrine, and the concealment-of-errors strategies has been exposed by recourse to wt.literature itself.. the wt.officials have no recourse ( because they are unable to respond adequately ) but, to declare all dissidents as apostates and forbid the reading of all anti-witness materials.including on the internet.which includes this forum maintained by simon and all who have an in-put here-in.. good work everyone and welcome to the team of the ever growing critical study of jehovah's witnesses.. blueblades.
meta: What did Barr say about JWs not being on the watch anymore? I missed that.
well, i guess look around and see if it really did or not first.
then if it has i would roll in a ball and kiss my ass good bye.
but if has not i would laugh my ass of again.
would report any suspicious looking "unclean and hated birds" in the neighborhood
Rub: I think I just saw one!
i just found out that my boss at my new job is a jw!!!
earlier today i walked into his office to ask him a quick question?
the nwt and wt on his desk.
Tink, that's nothing. I had a customized songbook cover. Embossed leather. Eat your heart out.
did anyone ever come across the idea that meeting attendances were an indication of how much spirit jehovah was giving or witholding from the congregation?.
..and that this was directly related to whether or not there was any secret wrondoing within the congregation that was "blocking the spirit" and thereby restricting the "increase"?.
just a couple of instances:.
What 215 said.
yesterday, i took the opportunity to read a couple of newspapers outside on a beautiful day.
when i sat down on the city bench, an older black woman subtly asked me,"would you like to read the awake magazine?
" i said "no thankyou" and started to read my papers.
This experience highlights once again how distorted are the FS numbers recorded every month and highlighted in the annual report. How many "hours" does this sister turn in for what is clearly zero preaching activity compared to first century evangelism? And how common is this kind of dumbed-down activity nowadays?
in the past year or so a local congregation has had several announcements that "so-and-so is no longer serving as an elder.".
one of these elders has served in the watchtower organization since the 1940's.
one thing apparent is the "organization's" lack of recognition and/or appreciation for its own.
this is just another example in a long line of examples why the wt has nothing to do with god
In a simple, single sentence, this is "the truth that sets you free." Once you understand this, it's all over and you can move on.
if a "critical mass" of witnesses started to observe the following, what kind of reaction to you think hq would have?
what percentage of witnesses would you consider to be a "critical mass?
" in other words, how many does it take to make behavior snowball?
spud: I can't elaborate too much as I'm still in hiding here, but the GB member was once a CO who spent some time in my home and based on discussions we had way back then, I reasoned that we could talk. I don't mean to imply those discussions were critical of the course of dubdom or that I thought of him as especially open-minded, I just mean that my family showed some generosity to him on several occasions and I thought he might grant me the courtesy of a read, and perhaps a reply. In retrospect, I'm pretty sure my letter would have gone to the body in my congo followed by an embarrassing discussion with my fellow elders. As I am not ready for that, what with family members to protect, I believe I made the right decision in filing the letter instead of mailing it. I thought I might send it at a "more opportune time" in the future, but as time goes by I'm thinking less of reform, more of taking my leave.
over at channelc.org, they mention an off broadway play called "the good faith" - about people leaving the.
organization.
interesting.... .
Some 10 years or so ago, in San Francisco, a play was produced about a boy growing up in a JW household; the adults were all pretty weird. Read a review of it in the SF Chronicle at the time. Believe it was called: God Folk, but am not sure.
