Remember the holographic projections of Princess Leia and Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars?

    It's almost here:

Remember the universal translator used on Star Trek?

    That's almost here too:

A small company ( SCLN) has a drug (Zadactin) in Phase 3 trials that may be effective against cancer, liver disease,

    and even SARS.

Of course, all these wonders are brought to you by "puny humans", who will die at Armageddon,

and , as always, things are "getting worse and worse".

Metatron, posts like these of yours deserve a multimedia intro. It'd be pretty cool if Simon would cook up some streaming theme music for them. (and Simon, don't say one word about dial-up users, it'd just be another reason for them to get broadband and join the 21st century!)

Seriously though. The Empire is scared to death of modern technology because at any moment some great quantum leap forward could force them to quickly come up with "new light". News like yours will never be brought out in their propoganda publications in a positive light. They like to insist that "there is nothing new under the sun" when in fact there is quite a bit of true "new light" coming out of the brightest minds in "the world".

Since you brought up the subject, I'd like to add my own contribution. I heard Paul Harvey the other day talking about how scientists installed (maybe not the right term) a prosthetic arm on a man which he could control somewhat by his thoughts. Now how do you think that concept would be treated in the pages of Awake? The term "sour grapes" comes to mind, doesn't it?

Want to know why? It's because any advance in science and technology that saves one single third world child from starvation, gives a few more years of life to a terminal cancer or AIDS patient, or helps a crippled person to walk again is a hell of a lot more than they can or will ever do because all they want is for the rank and file to sell books and magazines and start bible studies with those who need a hell of a lot more than the really bad advice to "wait on Jehovah".

    Mike.

p.s. sorry I can't provide an exact reference to what Paul Harvey was talking about. I checked his site but couldn't find it. So I guess you'll just have to take my word for it.

    exactly so

I am amazed at the wonders emerging almost daily while Witnesses drag themselves thru life, waiting for

    a glorious mass destruction.

What was I thinking, all those years?

Worth an "amen" from the chorus, at least.

Why, "wait on Jehovah", of course!

Doesn't that phrase sound a little like James 2:15-16?

    metatron,

There you go running ahead of the organization again. Didn't you know that the org, is on the cutting edge of real relief for mankind? Why wast time and money on silly cancer treatments or adolescent-like gagetry?

The real answers can be found in in this 192 page book entitled, "Who Really Is The Father of The Lie"?

More importantly, we should consider where this breakneck pace of technological progress is taking us - soon we'll live in a world where the Tower and all other human pursuits will be but a fading memory in the minds of our own creations...I don't know whether this is a good thing or a bad thing.

It's certainly a bad thing for the Society, though.

Too true. The internet in its current form has only been around for about a decade, and they still haven't recovered/regrouped in the face of its onslaught.
