Changing tides
by d ini think we are witnessing major events in our time period.look at the snoweden situation and the continuing arab spring and the issue of income inequality.we are seeing that people are questioning the old values and briging up new ones.i belieive we are also approaching a much more secular world as well.. people today are a lot more skeptical of those in power than before and this all part of a change in our values.look at as well the advancement of science and technology.we are able to treat illness once thought uncurable.the future does not look bleak despite what the jw's say.yes we have been thorugh wars ad famines and illness but we are treating those things fast.according to the u.n they plan to cut world poverty in half.. this is good..

are u serious? Good? in a few years people will pray and hope that there is a God out there,... otherwise mankind is doomed. We are ruining our earth and ecosystems. Illnesses that we were capable of to cure now become resistant to antibiotics and kill again. New scary diseases developed,.. which we did not know of just a few decades ago. Cut poverty in half? Europe is becoming poor ,.. high unemployment and budget deficits.
And about the major political events... it only shows that the world is falling apart. It shows that no matter how long regimes or institutions ruled they can be destroyed in a few days or weeks. Even in developed nations we saw the 'occupy' movement. So yes people are questioning the old values but at the same time they learn that humans cant solve their problems.
And ... JW's dont tell you that our future looks bleak... scientists do!! Jw's tell you the future looks bright

Why are they so quick to shun?
by Crazyguy incedars story made me wonder why are parents and loved ones so quick to shun??
i mean it can be shown biblically that only people that do not believe in jesus as the messiah are apostates.
thessalonians tells us to keep admonishing one as a 'brother' and jesus christ himself said to love your enemies.

@Steve no the Netherlands is around 30,000 for several decades. My future outlook as i said in a previous post is indeed positive. I said;
Personally i think that numbers will increase a bit more and the growth percentages will become slightly higher the coming years. The reason is that there will come more JW Noise... the volume level will go up quite a bit over the next 2-3 years (new initiatives like carts, vans and trucks, stands and an increase of printed literature from 600 languages to 1000 languages before sept 2014).
and
even in internet penetrated countries they remain stable or even show a small growth percentage,.. the prophesized crumbling because of internet isnt going to happen. On the contrary i think the emphasize on their newly launched (sept 2012) website and other initiatives to spread the word will actually help more people to get on the wagon.
So in my opinion, we just have to wait & see how things will go the next few years. The majority of growth will come from Asia, Africa, South America but for Europe and North America i foresee a slight growth too but due to the new approach that is launched now and during the next years.

The Signs of the Declines
by Londo111 inabout the circuit i grew up in:.
last decade, a congregation was dissolved.. last year, about a half a dozen or so congregations meeting in a double-hall got re-orged and it works out to one less congregation.
they received all new territories, bodies of elders, publishers.

@Kate its not that interesting, and what i said is based on two things.
First the experience we have with the halls we used and now sell in order to build these new ones.
Second, if you remember the Video 'Jehovah's Witnesses - Organized to share the Good News' just take a look at what is said at 28:51 till 29:28 minutes.

@bugbear the New bigger assembly halls will be build by an international group of volunteers. Some halls that are used now will be sold (for example one in the Netherlands that was used for 40 years). The money will be used for the new halls. The bigger new halls will serve for decades to come as assembly and convention halls. They will also be used for education like the school for couples. Housing, for the students will be there as well so that they dont have to travel each day back and forth to the hall.

@Bugbear the closing and selling of assembly halls has to do with a new strategy. They are going to build new and bigger assembly halls in 7 european countries. In that way they have to rent less locations for conventions and are reducing costs by maintaining bigger assembly halls instead of a few smaller ones.
The Netherlands is the first european country where such a hall will be made with about 3 X the capacity of existing ones.
