I think it depends on your family. As soon as I became inactive, I was treated as though disfellowshiped. Perhaps there would have been some satisfaction on my part to be proactive and DA myself.

Is Fading Worth it?
by undercover infrom time to time members of jwd will post an experience of receiving a letter or an email from a still believing family member or friend encouraging them to "return to jehovah" or the "organization".
sometimes an intense amount of guilt is applied to the letter receiver.
guilt for having left jehovah or for turning their back on their family/friends.

I received a package from my mother today
by ex-nj-jw inmy dub mother sent me a package today, inside was a nwt bible, a picture of me around age 5 at an assembly - i looked miserable and my dad was holding a battery operated fan in front of me, and a letter, here is the letter.
i ask that you remember that i was 18 when i left and i'm now 42, that there is a total of 8 children in my family and there are only 2 that are still jw's, oh and that my mother is a complete nutcase!

Even though I've been away from the cult for more than ten years now, that email from your mom kind of grabbed me in the solar plexis! It would be impossible to answer it; there are so many outright lies there, misinformation, insults and insinuations and outright refusal to look at the truth from any angle! That's the kind of circular argument they've perfected! I'm glad you're beyond it. Even if my mom was still alive I don't know how I'd react to something like that. Of course, my mom and sisters never did try, pearls before swine or something!
I envy your healthy attitude.

Those wicked worldly people
by Paralipomenon inwell twenty days ago, my wife decided to check things out and start reading and posting here.
i thought i'd give a bit of an update on how things are going because she's still quite reluctant to create a new topic herself.
she has been reading alot of older posts on the forums and getting caught up, that has led to a few topics or comments by me that she's questioned me on.

I'm so happy for both of you. Her experience with neighbors mirrors mine. My next door neighbor during the beginning of my fade became like a sister and still is. I told her I didn't know how to make friends and she told me I WAS a friend and doing just fine. My coworkers were close, too, helping me through a divorce after 26 years and getting on my own feet. They were my sisters through those couple of years and I made a point to tell my mom and sisters that. None of my family in the "truth" bothered to see if the kids or I needed anything through those difficult times. So congratulations for seeing the light and being able to make sure your kids don't have to go through the same thing.
Crisis of Conscience, yeah! I didn't read it for years and wish I would have because it freed me of so many doubts. Glad you're not slow learners like me.

Yes, Michigan is beautiful. We're having more than our share of economic problems right now, though.
I live in the south-eastern part of the state but spend vacations up around the Traverse City area.

OK, YOUR FAVORITE FOOD/COOKING SHOWS. Anthony Bourdain...
by Seeker4 inyep, bourdain's no reservations tops my list of favorites.. why is it that shows on food and cooking, reality or otherwise, kick the ass of just about everything else on tv?
what do you expect with crap like america's got talent?
yeah, maybe it does, but not much of it's getting on that show!.

sliced it thick, put on butter, slices of tomato from my own garden, covered that with sharp cheddar cheese made at the farm down the road, then slid them under the broiler til the bread browned and the cheese and butter melted
that was my breakfast this morning, though I'd made the bread but didn't have local cheese.
Anyone belong to a CSA (community supported agricultural farm)?

BETHELITES - Whatever Became of?
by Black Man ini often times wonder what happened to certain bethelites that i ran around with during my 1990s tenure there.
while there are still a few left there, the greater majority of them aren't there for various reasons (marriage, disillusionment, left the borg, etc).
a couple of cats i wonder about - there was one brother who i believe was from kansas, who got his fingers cut off in a printing press.

Darth Frosty and Black Man, thanks for responding about Rich Devine. I still wonder what happened to the Canolas. They'd be in their late 50's by now; maybe they also went into the circuit work.
