Life after the witnesses, friends, faith etc

hi everyone, this is my first post so go easy on me :) i have been a witness all of my life (i'm 37) and truly believed it until 3 years ago.

my husband and i had become spiritually weak and over time i began to question more and more until i came to the conclusion that the witnesses were not the true religion but just one of many religions and that if god is there then there are many paths to get to him.

anyway, i've battled with keeping going as my husband still believed and i didn't want to be in a divided household as we have a young daughter and thought it would be very confusing for her (and us).

I had changed my life by starting living in another country. Went to school in years, when others were starting to climb in the career ladder. I did not received my B.S. until I was over 30. I earned two graduate certifications afterwards and now I am six months from completing my Master's well over 40. Nothing is stopping me and my life after KH is fulfilled.

People are good and bad as in the KH. I met genuine people outside KH. I am married to Jewish person and my in-laws are great. While I am very doubtful of others people intention and I do not trust to people, I am friendly enough to have friends which we camped in the woods, shared beach house, or went ski.

Question of God, faith, and religion will be your personal struggle. There is not much someone can advice you as you need to deal with it with your own feelings, beliefs, and upbringing. Everyone is different. Some people joined other churches, while other became atheist. Either way, it will be your own personal journey.

JWs nearly killed my mother

the past week has been hell for me.

my mother started feeling ill and we went to seek medical assistance.

we live in the mountains and the nearest large hospital is about 150 kms away.

I am so glad you have a happy ending! I am in similar situation with my mom. Last week I had find out that she did not have money for Avastin eye shots because she went to JW convention, which whipped her some saving that she had put on the side for the treatment and who knows how much she had donated there. My JW cousins told her not to worry if she goes blind because she will get new eyes after Armageddon. Additionally, she was told that if she goes for hip surgery in the fall, she will miss her chance to survive in Armageddon, because she would be too busy recovering in outpatient rehab center. At least my mom is receiving a medical treatment and had her doctor appointment already.

Someone already called from her KH to inquire if I am still at my mom's place today. At least they could ask her about my mom's health. Hell no! It is so pathetic that JWs gives others such BS advice. Stupid cult.

Need someone to talk to

hi i've been a jw my whole life and i'm 17 now.

i've never had a mine of my own and recently i started thinking more open minded and i know the being a jw isn't for me.

i feel like i've been in a bubble my whole life.

All the advices are right on. You are approaching an age, where you will become a legal adult. Start preparing for your own independence, think of your future, career, education, and people outside WT cult.

We're All Going To Die

life has been busy, but i am now on 2 weeks vacation which allowed me some thinking room.

and here's what's been on my mind.. we're all going to die.

no matter what we do, our fate is sealed.

I have had accepted a reality that I will die and I am not worried. I do not care about afterlife. What is matter is my life TODAY, making meaningful and influencing positively others. It is the only thing that matter, which is this life. Everything else is unverified, unconfirmed BS. Make your live worth. Channel your knowledge to other generation, plant a trees until someone will cut them down, plant a roses, until someone else is will pluck them out. Life is too short, thus enjoying it to fully responsibly. Many people wanted and want to make this world better, finding cure for HIV, cancer and hep-c, cleaner energy, better civic institutions and functioning democracy, without the need to wait for Armageddon which will never come.

Need the hardest evidence possible that humans have lived for more than 6000 years

since coming out of the witnesses, i have gone through a transformation in thought and in mind.

i started with the usual: i thought that jesus was god.

then i investigated more about the bible and thought that the bible was not true, given the many contradictions, failed prophecies, etc.. then i investigated evolution and read lots and now i accept evolution and natural selection as things that are true.. now, i need to make my dad rethink everything.

Entire northern hemisphere yields tons of evidence due glaciation and interglaciation period. This is well documented both in the archeology but also in the flora, geology, and sediments in all of Europe and Northern America. During the interglaciation period, human population inhabited large part of Europe in 28000-18000 BC and the flora/fauna was different. Large animals like mammoth, saber tooth kitties, and other animals lived in different climate and weather pattern, and the population left hundreds of sites with an extensive artifacts. Not only with Venus statues, but also burial sites, carving in the stones and bones, and so on. World eventually cooled again and continental ice shield retried deep into Central and Western Europe and Northern America (Wisconsin Glaciation). The trace of this last major continental ice shield are well preserved all over northern hemisphere and overlapped many area where humans lived earlier. Flora and fauna disappeared. This glaciation ended after several thousands years, but the new species were different from earlier flora/fauna/humans. Glaciation is well measured event, it has its characteristics and rates and can be pinpointed into several hundreds of years in the last period.

Do video games cause bad behaviour in children?

my boy is 10 and has got very interested in pocamon cards.

( a game way to complicated for me to understand) but i've also noticed it's linked to a computer game, which seems harmless enough but i also noticed advertisements for more violent games appear.. i would value people's opinion on whether, you think video games cause bad behaviour in kids.

i should mention my kid says i limit his time on these games, much more than other children's parents, and i was thinking of reevaluating that rule.. thanks.. the rebel..

Video games are played by various people in many age groups. The biggest spender for video games is generation between age 30 and 40, who played more games than younger generation. I enjoy playing video games especially medieval theme and I am well over 40. My former boss was extremely into video games and had an extensive collection at home. Many elderly play board games online like my mom and step dad. Yet, you do not see there is correlation between violence and gaming in the age group, because there is none. I have not read any serious study that would link video games with violence. Prior video games, similar association was done for comic books.

My grandmother had the radio through most of her life. My grandfather bought before WWII; she had her in kitchen, so when she cooked, she could listen to the music or announcement. My father told me that as kids they listen illegal broadcast BBC from London during WWII. What I know, this radio had two knobs on the either side, and middle there was tube with green color and we could adjust between stations. It was functional for years, because my grandmother listened to it well to the 1980's. Back prior TV, family sit by radio and listened to the broadcast. I think it was made by Phillips. If anyone in my family still has this radio in the attic or basement, it must be 80 years old.

Electronics was big and expensive at that time. I still remember we had TV on legs with a rabbit ears. My mom managed to brake the TV during vacuuming by knocking out one of the leg, and the TV crashed and broke. Also my grandmother had old radio. It was from 1920/30's or so and it was still functional in 1980's. There was registration sticker on it by German occupational force as back then it was required to register all radios. My mom still has the type recorder from 1900's. My great-great grandfather was a city lawyer and it been in our family for over 100 years. It is not functional, but my mom still has it at her study. I do no know what happens to that radio, but we threw the tape player out in the 1980's. We got cassette player, and I had my first walkman in mid 1980's.

Ouch, memory of the childhood. We had one audio case like this, in brown color, and it was heavy. My elder had two, because he was copying tapes all time. That thing was expensive. I think my dad paid two months of salary for it.

I am not knowledgeable of English laws, but poaching was crime in Czech lands since 14th century. It has to do for overall protection as overkill became a huge problem in medieval times and caused extension of many species in Bohemia (wolfs, European bison, lynx, bears, and elks). Poaching was also defined as hunt outside legally defined hunting season (Sept-Nov). Even wealthy noblemen were fined for violating laws until 1627. Fishing was also on permit where hundreds of ponds across Bohemia were publicly owned, often by municipality, not by manor or landlord. Poaching was problem, because it destroyed expected source of food in medieval times where fish was important staple diet. Again, laws were implemented to regulate and to benefit a greater community. Anti-poaching and forest preservation laws in Bohemia are actually one of the oldest legal documents in that country.
