JW follows pre-tribulation eschatology, but bit twisted view as was formulated by various religious crazies in Northern America during the Second Great Awakening. Armageddon is the final part of the Great Tribulation as was formulated at years I was in the cult. The best topics on it I remember was from study of the book of Revelation.

Suicide - How many do you know within the JWs
by Lady Lee inthw wts likes to play games with their statistics.
one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

I had actually browsed old news Czech media and exactly the same suicide happened in 2003 when entire JW family (parents and two children age 9 & 11) died by exhaust pipe put into their car. I wonder if these two cases were interconnected and the families knew each other and later the other imitated the same end. However, both families were from different congregation and lived 100km apart. The case I remember happened around the time I left cult in 1994, the other happend 8-9 years later. The difference between these two cases was that in the first one family had very young children-infant and toddler, while the other were more mature children.

I bumped into this old threat, but I heard a case in Czech Republic around 1995 when family drove with their car to the river south of Prague, put plastic tube from their exhaust pipe into the car and turned the engine running. Family of four had died, JW man, woman, and two their children. It was also widely reported by the press.

Just Curious About Something
by EmptyInside insorry, couldn't think of a better title for this post, without it being long.. i was thinking this morning,if ex-jws, who were born into the group less likely to join another religion after leaving.
vs. the witnesses who belonged to a church before joining the religion.. from my own prespective, being raised a witness,i have no intention of joining any religion.
and it seems that born-ins are less likely to join a religion after leaving the cult.. in my own experience,i think it's religious burn-out to tell the truth.

I grew up in since age six, so I am not sure if I could. I do not have whatsoever desire joining any organized religion. Somewhere I read that 2/3 of exJW do not become a member of any organization, and probably have one of the highest percentage of atheists.

Jehovah's Witnesses - the Fourth Branch of Judaism
by truthseeker ineverything about the jws points exclusively to jehovah, the god of the old testament.. jesus hardly gets a mention.
they can't ignore him completely but isn't it interesting that the only publication they produced about jesus, doesn't even have his name on it.
it's simply called "the greatest man who ever lived".

BackseatDevil has the most valid points. I do not see JW as anything remotely related to Judaism. Everything JW believes is far of what Judaism teaches. WT invented its own theology and borrowed from other Christian sects to develop its present nonsense. JW do not worship Jesus as is normal for Christians because they do not believe in salvation through him but from FDS who will be the Noah's ark at the Armageddon. Judaism does not teach original sin nor atonement and dozens other beliefs integrated in JW cult. The reason why WT emphasizes OT is within its structure and culture. It is a cult that lack compassion, charity, and good deeds that are cornerstone of the Christianity. It they would follow Jesus teaching, they would also have to take care of its flock, which will never happen. Ancient Israelities had deeds and support services within their archaic society dealing with poor and needy. WT does not do that. WT is a cult of its own with mash of various beliefs that can change per will of the GB.

factfinder, we had a huge jewish cemetery in our field service that survived WWII. It was neglected as majority of the families died during Holocaust and survivors emigrated to Israel. But it was a popular place for tourists and visitors. One sister on field service commented the occupants of the cemetery as Jesus killers who would not get resurrected and they were unworthy in G-d eyes because they were like rejected inhabitants of Sodom. I was ready to kick her butt because I have many jewish friends, had jewish great great grandmother killed in 1942, and worked in place with many jews and "mischlings". I was so outraged with the blatant antisemitsm that you would only hear from the mouth of some neonazi leader or watching WWII documentaries..

In my KH we have a group of sisters who regularly patrolled cemeteries and were infamous about it. They would know any new burial and able to trace the relatives so they would attempt to preach and distribute literature. One sister used to do that for decades. I heard once really embarassing situation when they appeared in funeral at the moment when the coffin was put to the ground. The "mourners" were not really that sad, and she attempted to preach and say that it would be nice to see that person get resurrected in the new world. Everyone turned to her with a confused a look and asked her if she knew what kind of person they were burying.. It turned out that guy was murderer, beater, and rapist and everyone was glad that he was gone. Embarassed she walked away.
