i use my book bag to store my computer soft ware in its perfect for that.
and as for all the old issues of magazines i used them to start my wood stove on those cold mornings.
one time i asked for a lot of older issues from the friends so i could use them to line the bottom of my camp tent, they were more than happy to give them to me.
It's sitting in my closet gathering dust.

some of you don't know, but for the last two years, i've been trying to get my niece out of the clutches of the society.
it's been a long road.
since my sister died, my mother has been using a huge guilt trip on my niece.
Thank you for sharing that with us. It's so nice when someone you care about has their eyes opened to what the WTS is really all about. I wish my mother would see it for what it is. She's fairly isolated from the JWs now that she's ill, but now my niece has been getting magazines for her. I sure hope my niece doesn't get "in".

take a good look at the new 2004 watchtower calendar and compare it with any other calendar you receive.. it's tiny ( old folks can barely read the print).
it's only eight pages - with the months doubled up on each page.. .
now, tell me how god is wonderfully expanding this organization, amidst frequent appeals for more contributions!.
I always thought the JW calanders were useless. They don't make note of holidays, so you always needed a real calendar anyway, or you could end up going in to work on a holiday. Yeah, it happened to me.

thanksgiving's christian message of love: thanksgiving is celebrated in the phillippines, liberia, canada, guam, south korea, some of the carribbean region etc, and there were forerunners of it throughout germanic and slavic speaking nations.
the bible records that god told the people of israel to celebrate an annual harvest festival.
so it is false when some people claim thanksgiving is unbiblical or a nationalistic holiday for the u.s. alone although various colonies had thanksgiving, george washington made it into a national holiday and it was not regularly celebrated in the u.s. until abraham lincoln.
In Canada we had Thanksgiving in October, which I like, but I wish we could do it in November too. No more holidays until Christmas! I'm suffering from holiday withdrawl already.

i was lurking at beliefnet "learn about jehovah's witnesses"... here's a response to a question i'm sure you'll all enjoy!.
"3. what social systems do the jw have?
like support systems.".
Our elders are well trained to handle all kinds of situations that may come up, including helping those who may have an addiction to be freed from it, marriage and family counselling, suicide counselling, and so forth. They are also able to help us locate secular sources of help for things they are not qualified to handle.
I've met a few elders that weren't bad, some were even nice, but a lot of them weren't qualified to kiss my left asscheek, let alone deal with the sort of problems described above. And for the most part, they discouraged people from going to secular sources for help. The encouragement was usually something like "do more - study - service - meetings, etc. That was the answer for everything. The title of this thread is appropriate - I damn near choked on it!

i did for a little while today and i was cracking up!
what i saw was a younger, more naive version of myself.
i came out swinging!
I've just been posting since March, first on another board, then here. First I started off angry, at the society. Then my posts were mainly fluff. Lately, I've been told, I gravitate to the more negative threads. I'm not sure why.
I still feel the same as I did regarding my angry posts about the WTS, but I think I got alot of it out of my system, which is a good thing. It was beginning to affect my health. I still like fluff too.

Since I have my own office it would probably take longer for someone to notice if I died on the job.

did you ask or recieve help from the elders?.
if so, were they helpful?
i did once... they're help was more troubling than not.
I asked for help a few times, and each time I didn't get any. It usually ended up in my hearing some sort of asinine comments from the elders, and there was no confidentiality. Anything I asked the elders about became public knowledge within a few days. They always made the situation worse.

I've been sick of it for some time now.
