in other words, show all the people who screwed you over that you really were the smart one), feel very important because even though god has hidden these things from men, he chose to reveal them to you, have your choice of really big expensive houses after the big a hits, save your money by not wasting it on charities, be holy even as jehovah your god is holy, have instant friends without having to go to the trouble of getting to really know them, feel sorry for the misguided (intact) families that attend church, suffer for righteousness sake thereby guaranteeing god's favor, memorize the correct verbage for counseling others (meetings and field serevice), stop 'sighing and groaning' because the wbts will wipe your bum for you, defeat the devil by being on the winning side of a cosmic power struggle, show your loyalty by shunning family members that don't agree with you, possibly meet governing body members at conventions (christ's brothers), eat fresh warm krispy kreme donuts after desparately trying to save lives for 45 minutes on saturday morning, become a bible scholar, save expensive tuition costs by getting the equivalent of a college degree by reading the awake, and last but not least :

Radio Shack no longer asking for info? I should print that off and show them if I go in again. Last time I went to one a few weeks ago they still tried to get my postal code. With that, they can narrow my location down to within a few houses.

I'm not usually too obnoxious with them. If there's a hot looking cashier who asks for my phone number I'll usually ask 'why, you want to go out?'

No takers yet though.

Ever wonder why you are asked for information when you make a purchase? I've been asked for all kinds of things, like my name, phone number, postal code, etc. Once I made a cash purchase at Radio Shack. After taking my money, and before giving me my change, the guy at the cash wanted my name and postal code. I'm not in the habit of giving these out, so I refused. He then insisted that I must allow him to photocopy my driver's license. Naturally, I refused, and this led to a rather lengthly debate. He refused to give me my product, my receipt, or my money back until I produced my drivers license! Remember, this was a CASH purchase, and last I heard I was not legally required to provide personal information to every asshole that asks for it. The line of customers was growing behind me, the other person behind the cash took off somewhere, and I grew more impatient. I informed him that if I didn't get what was mine NOW I was coming behind the counter to take it. I guess at this point the store manager got wind of what was going on and came out and corrected the situation, although I was given no apology.

This idiot was an extreme example, but I've had many retailers insist they needed some of this information. For their databases. Sure, it's unavoidable to some extent, but to the degree I can control it I limit the personal info I give out. I don't want corporations to be able to query their databases and find out what size clothes I wear, how much tofu I eat, or how many condoms I use every month. (not enough)

I want my privacy!

If you're concerned about privacy issues, I'd recommend the book "Database Nation" by Simson Garfinkel.

He got off too easy!!! DF'd for 6 months? 90 days in jail? What a joke!!!

First he molests the girl for 8 years, and now she's further victimized by a judicial system that minimizes the seriousness of the crime.

I still marvel at people who wait so long to get the police involved. That should have been the first thing done.
