amac- some have a hard time realizing that you CAN believe in god without losing your freedom and your sanity. And I do truely doubt that an all knowing god would have inspired such a letter- let me know if you read this letter in the media.

Chasing shadows of the past
by kenpodragon ini remember being a child and playing in a park.
we would spend our summer days in the park, with all the freshly cut lawn, the swings and the sand to play in.
every once in a while, we would get the bright idea to try and chase our shadows to see if we could out run the darkened shape.

Hawk- in the USA we are at the mercy of public opion. We are also at themercy of what the media will view as credible or not. As we sit at the brink of war little attention is being given to the WT. Such letters written to the GB only will steer the media away from this issue- at least in the light of silent lambs. The intent may be good, but such reports and accusations are left to such rags as the golbe and national enquier. Few media sources in this country would touch such a thing with a 10 foot pole. The sorty line thaey would have to print to go along with this letter would be negative toward Mr Bowen.
Also, for decades the GB has recieved many such letters from disgruntled ex-jws. These attacks are nothing new to them.
A reasonable joint effort in washington could do much in support of the issue. Such unreasonable attacks against the GB only take away from the good already done and prevent positive result in the future. Remember, anyone, how such things were viewed as a JW? When you were a loyal JW how would you have responded about such a letter? Do you henestly see that there is any plan in effect that would make such a letter good for the cause?

LOL @ Island woman- that is how I see it.
And keep in mind that a true comparison is doing so after one has been stripped of their citizenship...... and unfortunately Mr Bowens apeals fall on deaf ears since he, like most here have been stripped of our citizenship from "Jehovahs earthly paradise".

The congregation witch hunt!
by kenpodragon inhas anyone ever studied the salem witch hunts and trails.
what i found interesting about these, is how people who claimed to be peaceful, could get so riled up, that they were willing to kill people.
the spark that lit the fire was often a rumor or false accusations that got out of hand, or perhaps a misunderstanding on a issue or people thinking they saw something they didn't.

This brought to mind the recent event that took place in florida due to what an over zealous waitress in Georgia thought she heard. Most may remember the medical students who were held by the side of the road as the nation watched on cable TV. Don't know what the waitress really heard but I do know that three careers were dramatically changed that day.
Jumping to conclusions and imputing motive. Overreacting.
One thing I learned from the JW experience: Question everyone and everything you hear. Don't take things at face value- demand proof and facts. And if it don't concern you- well you may never know the facts.

What's the Deal With the Bright Light You See Before Dying?
By Brendan I. Koerner
Posted Tuesday, October 1, 2002, at 2:42 PM PTTrain operatorKelvin DeBourgh Jr. was killed last week when the new AirTrain, which connects Manhattan to Kennedy International Airport, crashed. Before succumbing to his injuries, he told rescue workers: "I can't see you anymoreall I see is a bright light." Why do the mortally wounded often report seeing a bright light before dying?
Assuming it's not the Great Beyond, medical science has advanced several theories as to the bright light's physiological roots. Many researchers ascribe the glow to the effects of anoxia, or oxygen deprivation, which can affect the optic nerves. Others suspect that trauma to the right temporal lobe, the area of the brain responsible for perception, can cause the senses to malfunction. Michael A. Persinger, a neuroscientist at Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario, has replicated the bright-light phenomenon in test subjects by stimulating their right temporal lobes with mild electromagnetic fields.
A third theory holds that the brain releases massive amounts of endorphins, or natural painkillers, when the body is gravely injured. Those endorphins may "override" the optic nerves, causing the victim to see a peaceful glow rather than their own mangled body or teams of desperate paramedics scurrying about. This endorphin-induced serenity can be crucial to warding off lethal shock, thus giving the person better odds of survival.
It has also been suggested that some bright-light glimpsers neither gaze at eternity nor experience unusual neurological activity. Instead, they may simply mistake the high-powered operating room lights as something a tad more mystical.
Bonus Explainer: In Western societies, the bright light is often accompanied by visions of deceased relatives, idyllic gardens, and a convivial bearded man in flowing white robesall standard images of the Christian heaven. Dying Hindus in India, by contrast, typically picture the afterlife as a Kafkaesque bureaucratic office. Fading Micronesians have been known to describe a bustling, skyscraper-filled metropolis.

When you became an elder
by freedom96 in.
when those of you became an elder, or even perhaps a person of responsibility in the congregation, what did you become aware of that shocked or suprised you behind closed doors, out of the sight of the rest of the congregation, that you would not have known if it were not for your position?.

After becoming a servant I was dissapointed to see that everything I did not want to believe about the body was true. The talk among certain ones of the body was shocking and I guess reserved for only the "spiritually strong". Expressions of how they hated having to give Sis so in so a ride to the hall every Sunday because of her no good unbelieving mate. The use of the "n" word. The realization that that thier motivations were far from pure. Being directed NOT to take a bible on shepharding calls. Statements like: "So in so will never be a servant as long as I am an elder." A sad confirmation that all I feared about them was true. So very sad and depressing.

Am I damaging the silentlambs cause?
by Simon inone of the few unfounded (i think) accusations that have been thrown at me by certain people is that i have caused 'untold damage' to the silentambs cause.. i don't know quite what this is supposed to mean or what i'm suppoed to have done or whether it is anything more than just 'mud' flung by people who find it easier to criticise rather than actually do anything.. over the last year (is it?
) i've been happy to promote the silentlambs cause and have hosted links to bills site and vidoes / sound files of tv programmes, radio reports, photo's of the march etc... as well as providing a place for people to meet and arrange things.
i hope it has been useful and helpful to at least some people.. if i have inadventantly held things up in some way then i unreservedly and wholeheartedly apologise.. all i can say is, i do my best and may not always get things right.

Simon you have provided a wonderful venue for all to express their views. What a wonderful place for all to finally be able to use their new found freeness of speech. Thanks for your efforts in providing us with this site! I do not see how anyone can say you have damaged anything for anybody.

The Pot Calling the Kettle Black
by IslandWoman ini wonder sometimes if to outsiders who visit this and other xjw discussion boards it seems as if xjws never "bought the farm" and that's why they look down on those who did.
there is much ridicule of the rank and file here, why?
if we placed literature, conducted a bible study, brought a bible study to the point of baptism, gave talks, commented at the watchtower study, volunteered,

IslandWoman you are singing to the choir on this one. With the experience we have as jw's youwould think that we would slow down and be empathetic in order to help the dubs. But for some reason on these sites the Wt bashing never ends- It never ceases to amaze how we never stop to think- how would we have reacted to such comments about the wt when we were loyal dubs- unless most here never really bought into it to begin with.
