between getting ready to move, finishing up stuff at my workplace, moving, and starting grad school, i have no idea how much i'll be around.. .
so, just in case i disappear and someone wonders where...that's where =).
Actually, although my profile says I'm already in Arizona, that's where I'm moving to. (Oh, yeah, whose bright idea was it to move there the last week of July?? )
I'll still have net access for a week and a half, and will be hooking back up almost immediately when we get moved, but I don't know how much time I'll have to devote to things like message boards in the meantime, and after.
Now if I can just get the $&*^ing house in Omaha sold... ...then my life will be complete.

Just in case I don't get a chance to mention it. I've really enjoyed reading the posts on this board.
as most of you probably already know, from time to time the watchtower society likes to use district conventions as a platform for adopting silly resolutions, which more than likely are forgotten by the people who gave their approval to it by the time they leave the parking lot of the convention.
this year, during the final talk of the convention (talk entitled: "keep bearing much fruit to jehovah's glory"), a ten point resolution was adopted, with all the baby seal-like clapping following its adoption.
here's the main jist of the ten points (i didn't copy it word for word):.
What the heck is supposed to be the point of these 'resolutions', anyway? There's nothing in them to inspire passion, they're for internal consumption so they're not going to be distributed to outsiders... it's just utterly pointless, even beyond the pointlessness of the convention itself.
I always thought to myself, "And now, folks, we've come to the 'audience participation' segment of our show."
They think people will stay awake if they're supposed to be responding.
They think people will feel all important if they can join in adopting a resolution. They'll be heading home from the conventions thinking "I was there! In the future when publications talk about the 'important' resolutions that were made public at the 2003 convention, I can say I was there!"
"Resolutions" my butt...as if the rank and file had any choice.
if russell , rutherford and even knorr's work is considered misinterpeted, or overzealous, or they didn't have a complete understanding of the scriptures (even though they were of the annoited class).
can or will the same be said 50 years from now about today's publications.. this really intrigues me, i love reading the history of the watchtower and looking back at some of the beliefs and predictions.
i really appreciate the 1975 stuff more today then ever.
That's actually a really good question to ask JWs.
Because they'll puff up and say how this old system can't possibly last another 50 years.
Then you can ask them if they ever met anyone who was a JW in 1950
this is probaly one of my biggest problems i dealt with growing up in the jw crap.. it's no fun growing up alone.. i am sorry, but i hated my parents (probaly from the time i was 13), i know that is mean and a terrible thing to say, but that's how i felt.
i had no respect for them growing up in the borg.
they taught me nothing about ................. having a relationship/dating.
managing finances how to buy a house / car
Well, I was lucky. None of my family were ever JWs. And they were and still are good moral people and I pretty much like them. However, they didn't teach me to manage finances (which has caused me problems in my adult life) and they didn't teach me squat about buying a house or car (they didn't have problems in those areas, they just never taught me). Mostly because they're clueless about the house buying/selling thing...they bought the house they live in when I was a baby, and have no intention of ever moving.
This only really matters because right now I'm in House-Selling Hell. Edited because I forgot (is there an icon whose head explodes? that'd be me about now)
sunday's talk on avoiding satan's snares brought out an interesting point that the human government's very soon will be turning all their military and political might on god's people here on earth, because of the fact jehovah's witnesses would be perceived as such a dangerous threat to the governments of the world because of their christian neutrality.

Which, of course, begs the question...why do I spend time on xJW sites? (my husband asks me this alot)
Mostly because if I can red flag them for one person...get one person to not just believe everything they say hook, line, and sinker...which might keep them from being stuck in the misogynistic morass...which might keep a child from being abused and it being covered up...I'll do it, for at least a while.

This song fits the JWs to 't'...I knew I'd won (we'd stopped going but my husband never wanted to talk about it) when my husband and I were driving along one night, and this came on the radio, and we both started singing it at the top of our lungs, and looked at each other and realized we didn't believe it anymore and weren't going to accept them telling us what to do.

Parents and children should always be open to communication. When a parent sees a child erring or drifting from the truth, the parent needs to talk and reason with the child regardless of age. The same goes with the child that sees a parent erring or drifting away from the truth. By doing this we show loving concern just like Jehovah. Let us please keep communication open and not take offense when we are prodded to do what is right.

Are you supposed to shun parents or children who leave the WT, or are you supposed to be "open to communication"?? Good grief, no wonder families have so much grief over this topic. They're getting so much conflicting information it's nuts.
hi all.. as some of you know, i'm not a jw, nor have i ever been.
i have a friend who is one and have entertained the idea of becoming part of the collective.
that all ended after doing some serious research into the organization.
This is just another facet of the JWs utter lack of trust and absolute paranoia about everyone.
Very few JWs will befriend and wholly accept a new person claiming to be a JW without some sort of introduction from a "trusted" JW source. Ever try to get onto a 'secured' JW message board? (I haven't, but I've heard that Cerebus is easier to get past)
They might be bad association, you know, or disassociated, or disfellowshipped, or, horrors, apostate, and trying to go somewhere where no one knows them and trick the congregation - think of the consequences! JWs might actually come in contact with someone who doesn't think like them! The damage that could do to their insulated world!
I personally don't see why it's such a big deal, considering that each and every JW has to be ready to shun each and every other JW, at a word from the elders...
