a friend of mine who is a astronomer told me a asteroid will hit the earth near ca in 2036. it will make a close pass by earth in 2029 and if it goes through a certain point he called a donut hole it will come back and get us in 2036. i asked him if it is big enough to cause problems?

he laugh and said it is extinction asteroid.

he went on to say the russians are already working on a plan to destroy it before in makes it here or try and change the course of it.

Well, my advice to young people would be that you need to face the fact that you will never grow old in this present system of things. Because all the evidence an astronomer friend of ADD indicates that this corrupt system is due to end in 2036. ... Therefore, as a young person, you will never fulfill any career that this system offers . If you are in high school and thinking about a college education, it means at least four, perhaps even six or eight more years to graduate into a specialized career. But where will this system of things be by that time? It will be well on the way toward its finish.

Relationship with Jehovah?

when you were a devout jw.

did you feel that you had an actual "relationship" with jehovah/god just from praying to him and reading the wt or bible?.

or that this was actually even possible deep down?.

... That isn't a relationship, that's more like shunning.

That realization is what ended prayer for me. Oh, I still believe God is up there, be He Jehovah, Jesus or both, and I have to think He cares somehow and will act someday. But I don't know how to make a relationship out of that. Being a JW taught me that all the emotion we wrap up in our worship to God is meaningless, empty, serves no purpose. I was deeply invested in the notion that what I was doing was pleasing to God, only to find out out it was all for squat.

I like this scripture, Zephaniah 2:3

Seek the Lord , all you humble of the land, you who do what he commands.
Seek righteousness, seek humility;
perhaps you will be sheltered
on the day of the Lord ’s anger.

I can figure out what His commands are from reading the bible. Not sure what righteousness is but I'm not going back to a church to find it. Hopefully it just means being a good, decent person. Humility is useful in many settings but not all. Nevertheless, I pursue it. I do all these things because I choose to be this person, not because it has been mandated.

Finally, "perhaps I will be sheltered on the day of the Lord's anger"??? What can be said to that? When He decides whether or not I'm a decent enough person to keep around and maybe decides to talk or interact in some way, then that's a basis for a relationship. Until then... we got nuth'n.

When a JW's life comes close to its end...

talking with a long time elder last night, was very revealing.

he has been a jw for over 60 years, a man that was incarcerated in cuba in his early 20s and faced great loss and suffering over his beliefs and for being born in a communist country.

this brave man is now brittle and low-spirited.. while nightfalls on his life, he is made aware the end is near.

Great campagne in Portugal (ex-JW)

i like to tell you what we've been doing these past few days here in portugal (ex-jw).

we create a brochure and printing, so we can send to the maximum of congregations in portugal.

some individuals were also covered in this campaign.. the title of the pamphlet is: "when will the kingdom arrive?".

One day thru genetics or other means we will have better remedies for such rare offenses, maybe an injection or implant to modify behavior and bring the offending party to a better condition through a better understanding of human nature

If some creep came into your home, raped your wife and daughters, slit their throats and left with a grin on his face, would behavior modification satisfy your sense of justice? (Feel free to call it revenge.)

I have no problem with the death penalty.

in this the 100th anniversary of our lords return (invisibly of course brothers) it is a fine and appropriate thing to do..

Saw this thread, downloaded the picture, hit *print*, and wrote: Happy 30th Anniversary! on it right before I ran out the door for work this morning. Stopped by my old Kingdom Hall and slipped it in the door.

I'm pretty sure my little tract had about the same lifespan as theirs do... but it felt great. The whole experience went well with coffee.
