I was asked the other day when telling my story about leaving the witnesses when relating finally having the courage to type "Jehovah Witness" into the search bar on internet explorer and clicking around. I was never into doctrine at all when I was a witness, I barely listened at all anyhow it was the comical sites that got me. While Freeminds was a great tool I was more influenced by the Bethel Cartoons on the site. On Beacon the thing that got me most was the "Easy to answer, Hard to think about" page and Doc Bob's homepage was a great influence on me. Just wondering what were the sites that you visited most when leaving? And why was it those sites in particular? On a side note a couple of the sites I hit were so bitter I really thought that I should just avoid the sites all together but then I found a few that were just stating the facts and that got me back to reading (especially transcripts of Judicial Hearings my favorite things to read), were there any sites you found too bitter to read?

Why did you choose your avatar?
by FMZ ini have seen many threads about avatars, here is another one:.
i have had this avatar for some time on another board.
i was going to put a picture of myself in there, but decided against it, as i realized this picture has some symbolism to me.

My original avatar was me while I was wrestling, then I decided to be a little more anonymous and got Barry Horowitz king of the jobbers on WWF television when I was growing up. Johnny Depp I chose because alot of people say I look like him (and how I wish I looked more like him) and Captain Jack Sparrow is how I'd like to be like in life as opposed to as uptight as I am. So now I have a goal...savvy?

You definetly need to move, I would discuss it with your husband. Just tell him that his mother makes you uncomfortable and you'd like to try and find alternate living arrangements. My mother constantly stopping by and berating my wife and I is one of the main reasons we moved further away from her house. I'm sure your husband isn't missing all the stuff she does towards you, he probably wants her out of his life as much as you do.

Websites with pictures from Watchtower/Awake/brochures?
by somebodylovesme ini know a few have been posted from time to time, but it's a rather hard thing to search for!
does anyone have links to sites (or topics) that have pictures from the different dub magazines?
both "paradise" and the end of the world depictions would be quite useful.

I actually looked at your site Corvin some of those are pretty cool. Though I'm sorry to burst some of the nepharious sub-text behind all the letters found in the illustrations but from what I heard from a friend of mine who worked at Bethel (who had a friend in the art department) a couple of artists used to sink their initials into every illustration they did that way their JW relatives would know they were the ones who made the illustration. The WT doesn't let people take credit for writing articles or the wonderful illustrations, that usually drives people crazy not getting recognized for the work they do so they find a way to sign it without "signing it".

Welcome to the board, feel free to leave a bit about yourself in the future. The personal stories are the most fascinating part of this board.

I apologize I just can't focus after the picture of George Michael....*shudder*, my mommy always said "they know that they're going to heaven". On a different note just a bit does anyone know of anyone spilling the wine at the memorial? Or spilling the crackers (though that wouldn't nearly be as cool as spilling the wine)?

The youths are leaving in droves, well yay for the youths of today. And I thought they were hopeless when they made Titanic the top grossing movie of all time, but I guess they can use their powers for good. Oh and welcome Maya hope this place provides much laughter and venting.

Thanks for the sympathy guys, I do feel bad I lost a family member but am somewhat stunted by the fact I never really met him. The memorial thing bugs me just because it's like people should know the proper time to ask things, don't tell me my grand-uncle died then ask me to the memorial. At least use a different phone call, seriously. Tact is the better part of valor...or is that discretion. Eh, whatever, I do agree with LyinEyes though I'd love to take notes at the memorial except I have the same notes from every meeting I was at, er assemblies...ok so I never took notes. But I did have some kick ass sketches in all the margins!
