Yes they do travel with physically intimidating brothers who serve as "body guards/assistants" when traveling. However, thet also have others who are care-givers at Bethel. I know a Bethelite who took care of an elderly GB member and his wife as one of his assignments.

Local Kingdom Hall Speakers To Be Replaced By Governing Body Video Feeds.
by donuthole inso we've seen as the current gb is getting more facetime in an effort to reach the hearts and minds of the rank and file.
this took a leap with video feeds at an open annual meeting.
the international conventions are taking this a step farther.. do you think that local speakers at kingdom halls could ever be replaced by headquarter approved video feeds?.

The feed from WT would not necessarily have to be live, but could be pre-recorded service meeting parts, talks, announcements, etc. There would be a way to "select" a certain talk as per the KM such as :
"eTMS_14_Oct_01_special needs"

Excellent critique WC.
BTW, I knew an elder & wife that lived in a custom-built 250-300K home (expensive in this area), wife drove current model SUV (good for service) and wore expensive yet drab-colored outfits (linen, cashmere, etc.), and they were accustomed to yearly jaunts to places like Martha's Vineyard in NE. The congo. only found out because they were on vacation there when the FAA halted all air traffic after 09/11 and they were "stuck" on Martha's Vineyard.
Bottom line, totally unrealistic with 99% of J_Ws, myself included. The contrast with reality is breath-taking!

Does No Solicitation equal Put on "Do not Call List"?
by ABibleStudent ini live in a townhome complex.
a few days ago i asked the property manager to ask the local kingdom hall to no longer place wtbts literature (propaganda) at the complex because the area is posted as no solicitation and because the literature is sometimes blown away from doors becoming litter.. today i received a response that the kingdom hall agreed to no longer place literature at the complex and to let him know if wtbts literature is placed at the complex.
i was shocked how easy it was for the kh representative to agree to no longer place literature at the complex.

The policy is that the property manager's wishes (to not distribute literature) may not represent the individual resident's wishes as to religious literature offers. In other words, they will not leave mags at not-at-homes but may still offer magazines door-to-door, unless the householder specifically requests to be placed on the "do not call" list.

one reason for the dumbing down of the org
by Magnum ina lot of us have said that theres been a dumbing down in jw land.
its just not like it used to be especially a few decades ago.
it seems to me that if jw are right and the end of the world is near, the spiritual food should get tastier and more nourishing as time goes on, but it's getting more and more bland and less nourishing.

Television networks produce tv shows based on the "lowest common denominator" principle, that is, shows must appeal to the "dumbest" members of the target audience. The same is true of the WT literature of late in that it is interesting to the less intelligent members of the target population which, as mentioned above is the third world and immigrant population.

Disturbing Footnote in Tomorrow's Study Article...
by HeyThere inarticle is basicqlly about families where a spouse is working away from home for an extended period, etc...a foot note says basically that some studies have shown that working away from home can cause serious consequences, such as infidelity, homosexuality, or incest.
.
pull it up on jw.org...that is what it says.

"reports from various countries..." is all you get from WT. This sounds too much like the following:
"Reports are heardof brothers selling their homes and property and planning to finish out the rest of their days in this old system in the pioneer service. Certainly this is a fine way to spend the short time remaining before the wicked world's end." Kingdom Ministry, 5/74, p. 3.

What words has the WT redefined?
by Splash inthese days, virtually every public talk speaker thinks it's interesting and intellectual to include a dictionary definition of some word.
often the word is in common use and needs no explanation, such as 'exercise', or 'knowledge', or whatever.. now contrast that to all of the words that the wt has it's own meaning for, and referencing a dictionary for the common understanding of it would be viewed unfavourably.. words like 'generation' or 'men' (as in jesus is mediator between god and 'men' - 1tim 2:5-6).. what words have the wt redefined that you know about?
- i'd like to compile a list if possible.. splash.

A speaker giving the public talk said that the word, "fellow" came from the root word for Nephilim which means "to cause to fall". He says the Nephilim caused others to fall, and so they were called "fellers" and so we get the word "fellow". I'm thinking, ahhhhh...NO.

That analogy is true only if Tom Smith was actually hired by the Ajax plumbing company. What if Mr. Smith took the van and uniform without consent.
