- a person falsely claiming to have a special knowledge or skill; a fraudBased on this recognized definition of the noun ,charlatan, I don't think that it's too far off in describing old CT as a charlatan. He didn't disagree when referred to as the 'the faithful steward". He conned folks with 'miracle wheat'. He certainly thought he had special knowledge and was a gift from god! ( See the great pyramid inch scam!) He didn't give too much credit to others from which he "borrowed" their teachings. IMHO he was at best a kindly, gentle charlatan unlike his successor old booze Rutherford!just saying!

Can't say for sure, but like most charlatans, he probably borrowed bits and pieces from other charlatans and formulated enough bs together to make his religion different enough to be called a different religion! If you twist, spin, use symbolic, figurative, ambiguous language and interpretations, you can convince a lot of people who want to be convinced!

Another silly Bible story...this time brought to you by Moses
by RULES & REGULATIONS indoes this silly bible story make any sense after you take off your rose-colored glasses?.
moses comes down from the mountain with two freshly made tablets of stone written with the finger of god.
one commandment on the stone tablet reads '' you must not kill/murder.

I always like the bible "story" about the time when the Israelites were in a fierce battle and whenever Moses raised his arms the Israelites started winning, (i.e. slaughtering the enemy) but when he let his arms down, the enemy would start winning the battle, (i.e. slaughtering the Israelites). Poor Moses got so tired of flapping his arms that 2 men came to him and held his arms up for him and of course, the Israelites won the battle.
Moses was the "Wizard of the Holy Land".

retrospect on yesterday's wt "study" 29.
by waton ingo- teach.
par.1 : marching orders given to 500 attendees, none of them anointed, but 11 partakers, jesus taught and served people with an "earthly hope" and the commission to go was not as wt now claims a mandate to the gb members; the os only being supposed supporters.

If the 8 member gb are arrested and put in jail like Judge Rutherford and company back in 1918, will that be the "secondary fulfillment" of prophecy or just another beginning of the end?

District convention to be held in assembly hall instead of stadium
by NikL inlast night they announced that this summers district convention will be held at an assembly hall.. this is the first time i've seen this happen.
there are a couple of congregations in the same hall here and they aren't going to the same ones.
they are having multiple dates.. the hall they are going to use can only hold 1500 people max.. just wondering if maybe they just couldnt get anything bigger this year or if the falling numbers are playing a part in this decision.

We're located in the central valley of California, near Fresno. Yea my wife informed me that 'our' congregation will be attending the RC at the Fremont assembly hall. IMHO it will just be a longer, more boring circuit assembly. The assembly hall will be used every week and will need much more renovation which will be a call for more 'donations'.
It will be interesting to see if they start scheduling the RC program not only on the weekend but also during the work week!
But whatever happens, we all know that it's a very special blessing from jehober!

I can sort of understand your situation. Many of us here have been "pretend" witnesses for the sake of our elderly parents. I'm still faking it a bit so as not to hurt my 92 year old super jw mother in law. I've never felt more alive now that I've finally resolved that it was all a hoax and that I was a captive.
Freedom has a sweet taste indeed!

Well since persecution is "just around the corner", smaller gatherings will attract less attention. What's next? Wearing casual clothing and learning to talk softly? No more a time for boldness for jw's. Now it's time to start ducking the lime-lite!

the martyr syndrome
by eyeuse2badub inwhat is the gravest sin a jw can commit?
i’m not even going to consider the so called “unforgiveable sin” since no one knows what it is anyway!
is it lying, cheating, stealing, pride, envy, being gay?

What is the gravest sin a jw can commit? I’m not even going to consider the so called “unforgiveable sin” since no one knows what it is anyway! Is it lying, cheating, stealing, pride, envy, being gay? During my teen years in the 60’s, fornication and adultery seemed to be no, no! My mom had me and my 2 brothers scared shi*less about committing fornication! It must have worked because I didn’t commit fornication, I got married at 19! Lol! The only thing that anyone ever got df’ed for was sexual sins. I think that’s still the case even today. But is fornication/adultery more grievous to a jw than taking a blood transfusion? Sure both are considered gross sin, but which has the most lasting stigma attached to it and why? Both “sins” are conscience decisions. One gives momentary pleasure, one possibly saves a human life! Which one will jehober forgive?
I think that most here agree that accepting a lifesaving blood transfusion is almost the ‘unforgiveable sin’ for a jw. But why is it considered such a horrific sin? IMHO I believe that it’s because or the “martyr syndrome” JW’s love their martyrs. Martyrs attain a hero status in jw land. JW parents are so proud when their child gets to die for refusing a blood transfusion! O the irony!
End of my rant! What do you say?
