AbleBodiedMan, the mormons are running a close second. They are published in 177 languages, but beat us with 15,000,000 members, roughly. With their rate of growth, they'll have double our membership with only a few decades head start. It would seem that Jehovah is blessing them more in many respects if growth and works are the deciding factors.
The LDS have been amassing land - now owning multiple colleges, sanctuaries, and 2% of the state of Florida. They have more community enhancement projects. Their members even follow some crazy doctrines like us. Don't discount the Mormons.

Legacy, I'm not the one who said my GF had the talk. This one was all me.
Leaving_Quietly, It's easy to miss the point. I sure did until I really started reading it after your suggestion, viewing the context around the scripture instead of what we've been told. Us JWs aren't taught to be contextual readers. Unfortunately, I didn't record the talk, though.
Adamah, ....in time. I will quit when the time is right. Maybe the time will never be right, especially with friends and family in that I don't want to lose right now. Being subtle can go a long way given the time to develop. Advertisement has been doing this for years with subliminal messages. Have a hidden meaning or a subtle suggestion that makes people believe this is how they felt all along. Who says that we can't introduce this into the congregation and have a slow change from the bottom-out, or hopefully but less likely bottom-up.

Thanks everyone. My talk went great. I was really nervous knowing that I wasn't giving the talk they expected to hear about faith being tied to works of preaching. I was really ready to just tell them I'm not giving the talk because I couldn't think of an angle that would be beneficial to the congregation that was in harmony with TTATT. Thanks to you all, I nailed it, and the School Overseer even said it was great and that he was having to nitpick to find something to counsel me on.
I tried combining all of your suggestions but came out with a 10 minute talk instead of 5. So I had to condense it. I focused faith being placed not in the name of Jesus but in the person that name identifies and how the primary component or work of faith is love, as intructed by Christ's commandments, that love was the foundation for all other works, such as works of loyalty to Jesus. As suggested by Leaving_Quietly, I applied the entire chapter of James 2 on works to love and the importance it plays on our faith, using the examples of Abraham and Rahab with the love and faith they showed to Jehovah.
And the ultimate win of the talk is that I didn't use preaching once as a work. I imagine that many of the brothers and sisters had never heard this explanation of James 2. I know I haven't. So hopefully a contextual explanation will open some of their minds just a little.
Thanks Leaving_Quietly and everyone else for helping me get through this without wussing out and being able to provide something beneficial to the congregation at the same time. I may have to come to you all again later as other topics come along so that I can subtly help preach TTATT around JW doctrine to get the congregation to start thinking.

LOL, this will freak you outÂ…
by transhuman68 inive been cruising the net in search of the meaning of life (lol- as if!
) and came across this amazing piece of writing that i think puts everything in perspective... .
at first, when you really get that nothing matters at all it's very depressing.

And Solomon said it years before at Eccl 3:19, "everything is vanity", excuse me, "futile". That's why JWs preach. If everything on earth is vanity, "store up your treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust consume", everlasting treasures that aren't futile.
This is all well and good assuming that God exists and is taking notice, but JW works aren't always what they think they are, especially when spreading mis-information.

Christmas presents--"We get things all year"??
by WTWizard ini have heard that line of rubbish more times from the platform, especially around this time of year.
yet, given the number of children with few or no toys, about 90% of the time, they get little or nothing year round.
sometimes it is because of poverty, often induced because the parents are supposed to cut back on their work and pious-sneer or donate excessive amounts to the worldwide pedophile defense fund (or both).

JeffT, my family did the same. Everybody got presents on my parents anniversary. This is something my wife and I still do together.
I'll never forget the Christmas Eve where my Dad bought me and my sister a bunch of presents and stacked them in the living room floor in a pyramid, emphasizing that they weren't for Christmas. That was a fun night, but it's hilarious looking back on it. We didn't feel bad about not getting presents that year when the school kids asked what we got.

The medical specialist told me something alarming today. Pretty bummed.
by Julia Orwell inso i've been going to doctors for years with chronic fatigue, a condition i managed ok but which took a drastic nose dive in late 2011 to 2012 to the point where i could barely function.
work was part of the problem, so at the end of that year i left that stressful environment.
but in the meantime, for the last few years i've been going to doctors, specialists, psychiatrists and psychologists and undergoing every sort of blood test you can imagine and seeing all sorts of medical people.

The JW faith can definitely take a toll on us. My blood pressure has been on the rise from my awakening. I don't sleep well. I drink to help me sleep. It's a vicious cycle I'm working to break out of. My thoughts are with you.

Ever considered joining the Church of Satan?
by J. Hofer inevery now and then i read up on the church of satan, most of their principles make sense to me, in the end i'm still leaning to a more humanist world view though.
what's your view on the church of satan?
pragmatic nihilism spiced up with a few funny rituals?

I've considered it. I've downloaded the Satanic Bible for a fun read. I may adopt some of their principles, but I doubt I'd actually ever join.
