Is Relgious belief a trick of the mind?

what is it about our brians that drives people to religious beliefs that are so obviously nopt founded in fact or reason?is it an inherant founction of our tiny brians or is it in fact our brians going wrong in trying to make sense of the world?

maybe its the psychological equivelent of an optical illution were your brain in trying to make sense of what it sees constructs an impossible reality .like say when you draw a "3-d" box on a flat piece of paper and the brain tries to work out which face is on the front , but it can't, as none is, but the brain will put one in front whatever.maybe religion is what the brain makes to explain the world and uses it so the weiredness of reality makes more sense.

This is my last post for 12 hours.

I scored an 8.

I have always thought I was a bit psychic, I notice a lot of things others don't and my memory of certain things is phenomenal, also I have often known what my son and my husband and my aunt was thinking. Sometimes I ring my Aunt and she says she was thinking of me at that precise second.

I dont know though, Im in a process of working out what I believe in and what is actually factual at the moment.

Is Satan the good guy?

if i were to believe in the bible (which i am starting to totally disbelieve), i like the idea that satan was actually on mans side, and when you look at what he told eve he was actually telling the truth, it was god who lied.

this used to cross my mind as a witness but i would very swiftly dismiss it as demons affecting my thinking.

didn't he say we could rule ourselves if given a fair chance?

hi all.. there was an interesting thread a while back that i have a few things to add to.

i am new so i didn't know if anyone would see a post i would put there since the thread happened a few months ago.

it is going to take a while to put all my thoughts on the subject.

2/3 of Heaven saw right through the devil. They willfully chose to believe that God was wiser and mightier than they could possibly imagine. Why would anyone think a finite creation can exceed or know better than its infinite creator? God began creation on the basis of love. His creation had the option to Judge God as it had free will. Satan Judged love as weakness. He (satan) made (created) a critical error, not God. This proves that God is beyond perfection.

Maybe they were too scared to stand up for themselves, after all they saw what god did to Adam and Eve and to Satan when they exercised their free will. Maybe if we all excercise our free will he will wipe us all out and start again. I dont wish to worship a god that makes a creation then punishes it for how he made it.

Starscream: Mate you have very faulty reasoning and no logic. I can not argue with you because you can't even see where your own statements are contradictory so how can you possibly see it anywhere else? Can anybody else see what Im saying here?

So back to the origional question:

Thanks to everyone with books to read etc. Im sure it will be very interesting. I would like to research this idea some more. I was talking to my SO the other day and he was saying that in some countries black is good and white is evil. So Im wondering if the satan worshipers in our western society that wear black are actually believing it is the colour of good and that satan is the good guy? Or are they all evil virgin sacrificers like I was told as a witness?

Ok I'm going to get serious for a change. Even on a Friday evening. hic !

First you say:

ME: because if we can't fairly choose god or satan and god is going to have a judgement day, where he destroys everyone who believes satan is the good guy, then he is being unfair.

Starscream: First of all, that is not what Judgement day is for. Second, I think I have only implied that this will be an issue on Judgement day. That does not mean that it will be one, and it certainly won't be the deciding factor in someone's Judgment if it is.

Then you add:

Starscream:Anyone who is choosing the devil is screwed on Judgement day. End of sentence.

So which is it?

ok, don't get too excited, that is not what i think.

but it is what my wife (brought up as a jw) informed me this morning, after i said that i think the wbts is a cult.

the thing is, she has kind of "challenged" me to prove it!

take all american women who are within five years of menopause - train us for a few weeks, outfit us with automatic weapons, grenades, gas masks, moisturizer with spf15, prozac, hormones, chocolate, and canned tuna - drop us (parachuted, preferably) across the landscape of afghanistan, and let us do what comes naturally.
