This vs That

wow.. a serious post from animal... who woulda thought..... anyhow, we discussed something last weekend that needs more discussion.

it involves people born into the jw cult versus those that made an adult decision to join it.. my thoughts were:.

anyone not born into the cult have no idea of the mental anguish involved in being brainwashed, from birth, with all the cultisms.

I too was raised a brainwashed, scared little person. If you have read my posts you know that I left when I was twelve.. ran away... by the age of 18 I was still scared to death. It seemed, even though I knew they were wrong about being judgemental, and shunning their own children.... I just couldnt shake that "feeling" that I was going to be wiped out. They used to tell us that when armageddon came, people would try to shoot themselves in the head(scuicide) they said the gun would go off... and the bullet would go in... but the evil ones would not die... they would just suffer in a puddle of their own blood.... that was an image that I still dream about.... I am 33 now.

Welcome and congradulations. I myself am fairly new, but have found much healing on this site. If for no other reason that I can just spout off about the whole tragedy.... I dont even have to make sense... and nobody seems to judge you here..... it is like therapy. I have even had some positive e-mails from others on this site, that seemed to lift me even more. Hope to bump into you on future posts.

i can only think of their teaching of hell/sheol/soul...bet y'all cant think of another one .

eg....blood...never been consistent, couldnt have a single drop, can now have particles.... 1914 return of christ...began as 1874 ...was the beginning of the generation that would see the end yada.

They are consistent in the use of fear and guilt and shame.

They consistenly judge others, though they preach tolerance and love.

They consistently reject any free thought, as heresy.

They consistently treat women as property to be owned and controlled.

I know... I know... you said one thing. Just close your eyes and put your finger on the screen, and take your pick.

SMURFS ?!

can anyone tell me what was wrong with the smurfs ?.

i heard some horrible rumours about them as a kid, something about some kid taking a smurf to the kingdom hall, it making a whole lotta noise and then trotting off up the aisle until some burley elder threw it out the back !.

while we are on this point anyone ever have things taken away from them for being demonic etc

It is the things like this that just make me laugh... here you have seemingly intelligent people, who do research, and study history, and have created a powerful organization that generates much money, and assymilates many people...... and they believe that smurf dolls go dancing in the moonlight, and watching re-runs of "Bewitched" will bring the "devil" in your house.

I remember being very young when the whole smurfy dillema came about. Even then I thought to myself "you cant be for real?...... I know you aint telling me, that in this day and age, we still believe the boogie man is going to get us by way of smurfs."

BLUE PEOPLE...... smurfs DO exist I say... little tiny Blue People, and they run around singing songs, and gathering smurfberries. (kat newmas wanders off mumbling about little blue people....)

after reading the post on how to "treat your husband," i'd like to know if any men here actually feel this way about women.

everyone jokes around about male/female relationships, but how many really think women are inferior?

i know from some serious posts i've read here, that a few of the men must have really been hurt by someone.

Unfortunately for woman-kind..... man was endowed with a penis.

As the owner of a penis, the male is subject to blockheadedness, stubborness, being controlling, jealous, and in general.... penis like. BUT I have conquered my own disability, as the owner of a penis myself...

I treat my wife with respect and as an equal. We both work. I do not expect to "come home to a hot meal" any more than she does. It is not my wifes "job" to clean the house.... it is not my "job" to pay the bills.... all these things are shared equally.

My wife is an intelligent corporate killing machine (clerically speaking) I am an artist. We share all things equally.... No elders come to my house and tell us how to, or how often we should copulate. I do not co-erce, force, nag, or otherwise "inflict" sex on my wife. We share that too.

My wife is my.... religion. She is my companion, and friend. I would truly be lost without her. She is not property, or someone I feel a need to "be the head of"..... Confucius Say..."the head cannot turn without the neck"

a few days ago, i tracked down the only semi-real friend i had as a witness.

i called her at work and left a message.

she emailed me back, and seemed amenable to talking even though i am df.. she made a comment, "come back to jah.

Just an outside opinion, nothing more: It seems that in dealing with my father, who is a dedicated JW, and with whom I am trying to re-establish communications after twenty years..... I have tried so many times... where did I go wrong?... I think, that I should have left those issues you mentioned at the doorstep... at least for a short time. If they feel that you are "attacking" the whole.... then they will become defensive, you will be considered a threat. In your friends mind, you are truly an apostate.... it is the same as being charged with Heresy.

Try again with her shortly.... show her kindness, and love, and do not judge her.... try to remember that she is only there in the first place, because she has a desire to express "goodness and faith in god". She alone is not responsible for the actions of the Man-made structure. Remember that they are kept ignorant of what is really going on. Dont let religion be an issue when trying to establish a communication... focus on your friendship first. Express to her your faith and belief in God, later.

It is perhaps in this way, that many of us will recover our family and friends, that have been taken. My father is an elder.... but after twenty years, I have begun to establish some communication with him... slowly.... I am careful not to be condescending or confrontational.... Attacking them... only makes them defensive. Give your friend some time, she will have to feel something eventually.... If she was ever your friend... she will have to admit to herself that she is purposely shunning you, because of a list of rules. That in itself, is a step in the right direction. Perhaps she will begin to question those who make those rules.

oh after my last posts i had great fun reading the response's that were posted.

i am just trying to figure out what is wrong with you people, your'e response's are predictable and indeed amusing in many cases.

the first hint a someone defending and apparently being a jw and the 3 camps come out of the woodwork with their charm and tact to help a the poor jw realize the truth for what it is.

MN.... if you are really a JW.... then YOU are the kind that most people on this site feel.... a NEED to defend themselves against. I think most of the visitors to this site, find some good in JW's or they wouldn't bother.... others have family members, being held away from them, at the hands of your peers. But you.... are the best example of the judgement and intolerance, that they display. Everything must be absolute with those of your kind.

No one here will dispute the power that your religous structure has obtained. That power is respected and feared by many. It is the reason that most of us are no longer a part of that. By your post... I can tell you are just a youngun'.... you have much to learn about humanity, and how to interact with them... you have even more to learn about fear, guilt, and shame.... but you just stick with what you are doing, and that lesson will soon follow.

In the short time that I have been on this site... I have observed far more healing.... than bashing going on. It seems that no one here is trying to change the other's belief or path.... This is a place of honesty, and venting, and sharing of pain. You only shame it with your prescence. There are those here, who would be in a lot worse shape... if they had not found this site. Myself included.

Now run along and see if you can find a good place to plug that microphone into. That should keep you busy for a while........yes, I know .... Iggy the troll...... heck... just delete this post. lol

My Letter to the Elders in My Late Father's Congregation

I enjoyed your letter, and deeply sympathize with this situation. It is a horrible thing... the guilt, fear, and judgement, that has become so rampant.

It would be truly unwise to expect any true remorse from these elders. I know it had to feel "good" to tell them how you feel, and at least express to them that they HAVE taken a great responsibility.... to claim to know what is right for another man..... Time somebody held them to that responsibility. But, I am afraid you will not find any sincere remorse..... In their eyes, they are "appointed" by the Dweller of the Heavens, they have yet to accept responsibility for the pain they have caused.

Just know that in "death" your father does not suffer from guilt or shame. He is not being subjected to taunting or torment. He is in a state of change and growth now... for what lies ahead. That which you call "heaven" only begins to describe, the .... pure energy....that he will become. Death is not an end, it is a beginning.... do not grieve for him, but for your own loss. No list of rules or doctrines can change the great cycle of life, that wich we are all apart of. I will think of you and your father in my prayers.

I hope you accomplish something with the letter.... it was articulate and to the point. If every member of this site did something like that.... perhaps it would at least make somebody up there in NY, think about how they effect peoples lives. Good luck

Does God define "right and wrong" or is there an intrinsic 'good' ?

i don't personally believe in a 'god' but i wonder for those who do .... is there an intrinsic "right and wrong" or moral code that would exist whether or not there was a god?.

to put it another way, is what we believe is "right or wrong" based on whatever god decides is right or wrong (ie.

he set's the standard) or is it an intrinisc thing that he also must adhere to in order to be thought of as 'good'.. if god has to adhere and go along with some intrinsic value system then does this effect any claims to be omnipotent and always good?

not right and wrong... more like cruel and loving. harsh and mild. The dweller of the heavens is much the same as the world he created. There is a cycle of life in wich everything is a part of. What is Good? What is Bad? Everything has an equal opposite. The universe is divided by masculine and feminine, light and dark, seen and unseen. Morality... is entirely a human concept. Mostly used to control others.
