  as you have probably noticed, i haven't been posting much these past few days.. part of it is the "holiday blues" which i can't seem to break out of.

  not much in the mood to participate in controversial, confrontational, or political posts i suppose.

  i just don't have the intestinal fortitude for it right now.

  Resurrection

  if a person is resurrected, are they really the same person?.

  it is a bit difficult to explain this, but are they not a copy of the original person (all of the cells are new) with just the memory etc reinstalled?.

  it seems to me that even if resurrection were real then it would not be the actual person who was resurrected but an image of them who thought, acted and remembered the same as the original.

  I read in one of the publications that the person will essentially be the same person but since there will be no marriage of resurrected ones, males will be smooth like the Ken doll.

  Beards, can someone explain?

  can someone give me a sensible explaination as to why the jw's have banned beards?

  i was df'd in '90 just as this was becoming a big deal and at the time i thought it was completely rediculous what with jesus probably having a beard.

  it was one of the many things that led me to seeing that the gb make arbitrary rules and that the organisation has more to do with control than religion.

  I has to do with the fact that beards have pagan origins.

  When we observe depictions of ancient Babylonian gods, many have beards. Those that were involved in pagan worship, offering children as sacrifices, erecting poles for sex worship and related offenses also wore beards. We have all seen numerous pictures in the publications that show these facts.

  There is nothing in the Bible that indicates that Adam had a beard. As a perfect human, there was no need for one. But as sin spread throughout the earth, pagans adopted the desire for beards.

  So, obviously, sincere Christians do not adopt practices connected with unpure worship.

  Yes, the dumbing down process has continued over the years.

  If you really wanted people to learn to study, you wouldn't give them the page and paragraph number of every answer. Let the person use his or her brain and find the answer in the book themselves (oooppsss that would involve thinking wouldn't it !)

  Not enough reaching out

  the society has really been pushing hard lately (i know, like always) to do more and reach out.

  there is at least one reason for do this that i can think of.

  i have many friends around the country and they went to the elder school last year.

  As has been mentioned in previous threads, the "brain drain" as many call it is a direct result of the lack of new converts (new blood) coming into the organization. Instead, any "growth" in numbers is simply a result of inter-breeding within the organization.

  When you look at the baptismal candidates, the majority at every assembly I have been to in the last decade or so are children in their early to mid-teens.

  Thinking back to when I was growing up in the borg, many of the brothers could stand up and give an hour talk with nothing more than the bible in their hand. On Sundays, if the schedued speaker had to cancel, I recall my uncle several times simply scratching a few scriptures on a piece of paper and giving the entire talk. At times, even on the same subject that the scheduled speaker was to give.

  COULD YOU IMAGINE THAT TODAY ??? Without the Outline to read from, the vast majority of younger elders and ms's wouldn't know where to begin.

  How many of the elders or ms's under 40 years of age could do that today ? Most would appear like a deer caught in the headlights.

  When people are discouraged from any type of critical and analytical thinking, when research is defined as simply reading from an outline, what else should we expect.

  Standing up for National Anthem / Judges

  do others here feel that the prohibition about standing for the national anthem lacks any basis in logic whatsoever??

  having been raised in the borg, this is one issue that i never understood.. the argument has always been that standing up indicated "worship" of the country, the same as saluting the flag (i'm not discussing the flag salute issue here, just the "standing" issue).. however, if you stand up when required for a person, i.e.

  a judge in court, it is ok to stand because it is simply showing respect.

  If I travel to Canada and see a hockey game, does my standing for the anthem(s) mean that I am in any way worshiping or in any way "saluting" or offering my life to Canada ??? Of course not. It is just showing respect for the government.

  Sorry, to ramble on, but this is one of several teachings that absolutely lacks common sense.

  i?ve been a lurker for awhile and a member for a little while, and i?d like to tell you about myself and why i?m here.

  i was looking for information, comfort and explanations for what happened in my life and i?ve found all that and more here---thank you all so much for your contributions, words of wisdom and humor.

  3 years ago, almost 4, i was a divorced mother of 3 just getting my life together after having been married to a raging alcoholic for over 13 years.

  Welcome Little 1 and very touching, interesting story.

  I can relate to what you're saying since I ended up divorcing my ex-JW wife and ended up marrying a woman who is not a JW.

  The comments above are certainly true in that there is an incredible amount of pressure on a person who is connected to the organization (as I still am) and has, it their view, "broken the rules."

  I think my own behavior may have been a bit irrational at times but talking to others here and sharing experiences helps take away some of the pain.

  JW's Mentioned on Hannity and Colmes

  i hope i'm not repeating another thread, but i was listening to hannity and colmes on fox last night (thursday) and they mentioned a law suit (in washington state i think) filed by a woman to keep the word "christmas" in the holiday songs.. hannity said this resulted from several jw families that requested that the words be changed so their children could participate and sing the holiday songs.

  the school made the changes and now apparently at least one mother wants the original words put back in.. .

  one of the issues she brought up was that the word hannukah was not removed, only christmas.. .
