Going To A Luau Is Considered "A Conscience Matter Before Jehovah God"
by minimus inthe april 8, 2003 awake states:"a specific gathering to which the word luau is applied may or may not be appropriate for a christian to attend.
as in all aspects of life, christians should make decisions that will leave them with a clear conscience before jehovah god.
" so, in case you are asked to go to a luau, you really should consider if there's any religious or spiritistic overtones and recognize that the origin of the luau is pagan.

Is it bad?
by Elsewhere in.
i remember when i was a jw how everyone was constantly wondering whether certain things were bad or demonic or generally unacceptable to a true christian(tm).. it seems like they are completely obsessed with things like that... like the luau that minimus brought up in another thread or the smurfs.. when you were a jw, what were some of the "critical" things that everyone was obsessed with?.

One C.O was seemingly obsessed with phallic symbols, and his wife with paper towels with certain designs on them. Some were all bugged about Michael Jackson, and his song "Thriller". Some were bothered by certain movies like ET and Ferngully. Some were actually pretty cool and not much of anything bothered them. How I wish more would be like that.

"Shock and awe" . . . my butt
by teejay inthat phrase -- along with "weapons of mass destruction" -- is a term that i hope soon passes out of popular use.
i wonder who coined that phrase: "shock and awe.
" i'm sure they are terribly proud of themselves... the idiots.

I just hope that such phrases do not turn into mere catch phrasing that fails to really describe what is happening. I also get the feeling that the phrase could one day be used in some stupid ways. For example, I am waiting for some athelete somewhere to say, after a big victory, 'yeah, man, it was shock and awe". While such a possibilty sounds preposterous, consider that one player for the Washington Wizards last week likened that teams' playoff chase to the war in Iraq.

Hours, period. It's hours by which one is mainly judged as to how they qualify for positions in the congregation. Most jws obssess about hours much more so than any other part of their reports.

Who is the current "King of the South"?
by Azalo inever since the ussr fell it seems the jw's have been trying to find anyone to proclaim the king of the south (sorry if thats not how u say it but i'm just directly translating "rey del sur" ) just wondering if anyone knows who is the latest suspect, n korea maybe?
by the way, another example of how elitist the wts is, albeit subtle, why isnt the us the king of the south?
after all geographically speaking the former ussr is further north than the us.

As Blondie's helpful post indicates, it is the King of the North, not the King of the South, whose identity is evidently in question.

It's sad, isn't it? You know where the Kingdom Hall is located, and if you really wantd to go, you'd go. But they never seem to be able to accept that.
