I wouldn't be surprised if the WTS keeps off-shore financials, even a Swiss bank account, in order to hide nest eggs for itself, for officers, or both. With Franz out of the picture and with lawyers controlling the WTS more and more each year, with obvious prophesies coming past due, the pedophile and other issues pressing on them, and the decline of membership and decrease of activity of the current membership, I think the WTS is preparing for lean times or, if it doesn't seriously re-invent itself, the long haul into mainstream.

WHY DOES THE WTBS HOARD CASH
by Happy Guy :) inthey must have billions...annual revenue alone was almost a billion last year.
they must have close to 10 billion in assets and a large chunk of that is cash.
if the world is going to end any day that cash is useless.

by Dawn infound it at a rest stop today while traveling.
i thought about tossing it, but decided it had a much better purpose.
it was an issue on what to teach your young child - cute picture of a little girl (about 4 years old) on the cover.. so - i took it to my car, got out a pretty purple pen and wrote on the cover "this religion has a major probelm with pedophiles and is hurtful to young children.

- " What if there are some in the Christian congregation who live double lives? ...
Because the WTS is the prime example of double living. I think I don't need to remind anyone of how the WTS says one thing and means another. Or how the WTS assumes to put blame on the membership for anything but will never accept blame for anything it does.
- "One day one of them said to me:'it doesn't matter what we do now because when the new system comes, we're just going to be dead. We're not going to know that we missed anything.' That kind of talk came as wake up call for me. I do not want to be dead when the new system comes"
I think that is a boldfaced lie of a story. I think that's the pretense or excuse for the article. You have to be in WT brainlock not to see the obvious intent. Anyway. What person fed-up with the WT religion will ever admit something like that extreme and unreal belief to anyone, especially an elder? Not unless you are eager to face a kangaroo judicial meeting and disfellowshipping.
I think it has become obvious that the WTS has exhausted every possible way to recycle rewrites of past WT articles and are inventing situations in order to give some excuse to put ink to paper. What a waste of tree life!

Did Rutherford believe what he wrote?
by VM44 inwho thinks "judge" rutherford really believed what he wrote?.
i believe it was in the salter letter where it is stated that rutherford said once that he had "bluffed his way through life".
think he also "bluffed" his way when writing and talking about "the theocracy"?

- Who thinks "Judge" Rutherford really believed what he wrote?
Unfortunately it seems, anyone who becomes a lawyer loses sight of morality and ethics and deals strictly on legalism. Beyond the favorable picture of what the WTS paints of Rutherford, other sources of information regarding Rutherford paint him as a dictatorial ego driven oppertunist who insisted that everyone live according to his dictates except he himself.
- I believe it was in the Salter letter where it is stated that Rutherford said once that he had "bluffed his way through life"
I read Olin Moyle's letter where he gave many reasons why he and his wife left Bethel which were for moral issues ranging from debauchery among Bethelites to Rutherford's own unchristian lifestyle.
- Think he also "bluffed" his way when writing and talking about "The Theocracy"?
I think he bluffed about everything. As a professional university educated lawyer among ignorant sheep ready for the taking - given the vacuum from Russell's death - he rolled-over everybody. That's why I'm willing to bet that while any convert with a college education will be used, no one with a college degree will ever be a member of the GB.
- Rutherford once said to a convention that he was not the head of the Jehovah's Witnesses. That was a very, very insideous way of actually increasing his hold/power on the followers.
What better way to increase power than to make yourself the mouthpiece of God and then to proceed to make such a statement to stifle any disagreements and contrary politics?

Legal Reason Why Elders Are So Corrupt
by metatron inmany of you are aware of the society's oral instructions regarding the mailed forms for disfellowshipping.. in elder's school, these instructions are given orally while the audience is told to write them in their "pay attention".
books ( elder handbook).
basically, don't say anything that links them to df'ing someone.. it may be that the society is seeking to distance themselves from the actions of local elders - or simply using that as.

The WTS does that so when the local elders do the stupid thing the corporation is held harmless. But it's a two edged sword that can also work in your favor once you see the special angle. And the special angle is this: You can tell the elder or elders that if they do anything then you will hold them PERSONALLY liable and that they should carefully remember that the WTS will not defend or represent them in court - they are on their own and they can't run to Mommy for help. Mommy has them out on the limb like the monkeys they are. You'll get a badass lawyer, drag their asses into court, and sue them for everything they have! And then decide if you want to press for crimminal charges.
So nice to see elders and their lackeys run scared for a change.

Dinosaurs?
by Monski ina popular jw teaser, i know?

i would love to know.

<<Maybe they didn't fit on the ark? >>
I think some dinosaurs went in the ark. Some large mammals went into the ark, why not some large birds and reptiles? I think reptiles had a harder time adjusting with the new world climate than most mammals. So I think many animal kinds went extinct after the flood including surviving dinosaurs.
I'm reminded of the tales of dragons and great serpent-like beasts in Chinese and European folklore. The Aztecs had that folklore too. I'm pretty sure all that folklore has its basis in fact. So some dinosaurs survived but eventually died off. In Europe, they were slain to extinction by brave knights undergoing a required rite of passage if they had any hope of marrying a fair maiden.

Serena Williams (Dishonors) American Flag!
by Voyager infriends, i apologize if this is old information.
sometimes i can't keep up with (all) the posts here.
the thread lists this as (janurary 25, 2003) so thats why i thought it to be old.. i remember that serena williams had (won) the cup and championship, and was photographed carrying the american flag, or engaging in what (some people) considered as (idolatry),--but what was (news) to me, was the fact that she was also photographed (dishonoring) the american flag as well.

jwbot <<Also, why are people so quick to jump on her? she certainly means no disrespect. She did not flip off the flag and go "fuck you Australia". People are so picky sometimes.>>
True but if you want to foster understanding then you have to act understandingly. If someone's object is a representation of their memory of their mother, for example, then you have to respect their beliefs on how their object should be treated rather than your own belief of how it should be treated. Or else what "understanding" have you accomplished except a new way to offend them and they to dislike you?

Creative days
by rockhound ingenesis records that on the fifth creative day, the waters of the earth would teem with living creatures, and every winged bird would fill the sky.
at the beginning of the sixth creataive day, all the creatures that move along the ground were created.
keeping these texts in mind, i'd like to share with you some of my observations about this wonderful earth that have convinced me that the creative days of genesis were far longer than the 7,000 year long periods we were taught as jehovah's witnesses.

This is great!
Somehow I still believe in Jehovah and in Creation in Genesis. I think the story of Creation in Genesis has suffered from being retold and re-interpreted countless times before it went to writing in ancient times. And then it went through rwwriting and tampering before it became canonized Hebrew scripture. Perhaps the skeleton of truth is there but the real details are missing.
I really wish Jehovah, Jesus, ANYBODY up there would talk to us. It's been 2,000 years since Jesus. I don't believe it was 400 years since the last Hebrew prophet and Jesus Christ. I'm starting to wonder if there is anyone upstairs listening, much less WANTING TO TELL US ANYTHING. The world is in such a mess. Just letting us know in no uncertain terms that Jehovah is up there will make a fundamental change on Mankind due to its awareness that it is not alone in the universe.
Thanks for letting me ramble.
