Thx for the share. For those who don't know, RNA stands for Religion Newswriters Association. I listened for 15 min. and didn't hear a word about the Condi case. Could this please be edited before being posted? Some of us do not have an hour + to spare just to get to what we want to hear...

Audio of Candace Conti and Bill Bowen at the RNA 2013 conference
by cedars inthe audio file is 1 hour 28 minutes in total.
the first hour is the panel speaking, and the remaining 28 minutes is the questions from journalists.. here is the link.... http://192.185.44.220/media/13austin/podcast/06%20precon_%20the%20continuing%20story%20pf%20clergy%20abuse%20beyond%20roman%20catholics.mp3.
candace conti in particular did an amazing job, and the comments from the journalists show how appreciative they were of her bravery in speaking out on such a personal issue.. bill was also informative with some of the firsthand accounts he was able to give.. .

Did you ever volunteer at or visit Bethel? What were your impressions when you were in the WBTS vs. now (looking back)?
by Poindexter Lionel Humperdique indid you ever volunteer/visit bethel back when you were in the borg?
at the time, it opended my eyes as i saw a lot of red flags.
for instance, volunteers were kept so busy without reasonable accomodations that everyone became in a robotic-zombie state of compliance with an unreasonably strict fast pased schedule.

PLH – a nice thread, thx. I visted there several times an also realized it was not for me. You're spot on about the maniacal pace there, absolutely frantic. Especially good was your quotation of Matt. 11.
I had a bro. who'd just left Bethel once live with me for a few months. The poor guy could not slow down and enjoy a meal. He was still wolfing down everything and then rushing off, even it was just to the living room or bedroom---go figure! The thought of slowing down and actually preparing a meal also was completely absent. I either provided him with food or he wanted to go out. Only at a restaurant did he slow down. I figure that was the only time he'd have slowed down to eat when he was at Bethel.
Otherwise, he was a nice enough guy, though not very bright. I'm sure that last quality was and still is what is looked for in Bethelites.
Another experience comes to mind due to Ucantnome's share and the notion of non-intelligent bros. I knew this one very attractive new sister who'd fallen for the pressure put on her by other sisters to hurry up and marry a Bethelite. After she did, she discovered what a dork the guy was, an absolute duhhh! brother. Of course, she was then stuck in that situation we all must have seen repeatedly while in, a far more intelligent sister married to a dumb brother. She was absolutely miserable, even more so as she couldn't respect the guy, failed to provide the marriage due, and then had to go thru the humiliation of those public service meeting parts of "reproving before all on lookers those practicing sin" when her goofy "head" went out to a whore for some relief. You know, those parts where "no one is named," but everybody listening knows full well the parties involved and hangs on every word to scoop up as many of the juicy details of the sin as possible. The "innermost parts of the belly" to be sure! (Prov. 18:8).
So Ucantnome, was your friend motivated to go the Bethel to look at all the available sisters or was that just a by-product he learned of once there? Also, I loved the application of the Reasoning book observation regarding the biblical Bethel. How fitting! It must be prophetic!!
Thx, again PLH.

"It also means that the faithful are less inclined to go off on a tangent and do their own research."
Spot on, nugget! Everything else has become completely scripted, so now that last meeting with a few snippets of freedom has become enslaved.
The "new faithful" wouldn't dream of going off on their own and doing any—dare I say that blasphemous word?—independent thinking!
It's undoubtedly further fulfillment of the words in Hebrews, that "mature people" have had "their perceptive powers trained to distinguish between right and wrong."
Atlantis, thanks yet again for sharing this!

Making the name of Jehovah known...
by MeanMrMustard ini decided, for whatever reason, to go onto the goolge ngrams viewer tonight.
for those of you who have not played with it, its actually quite fun.
google has created a search for word seqences through hundreds of years of literature.

Meanie,
Thanks for the share. The name Jehovah was popular during and after the Protestant Reformation. It kind of fell into disfavor the late 1800s and early 20th century. That's when Yahweh became more fashionable. Now you know what a Witness would say about this, right? "This is exactly why Jehovah directed his true followers to take it up and make it known!"
A person cannot help but wonder whether the Witnesses taking it up has contributed to its decline elsewhere. Surely that must be the case, even if this chart doesn't indicate that real well.

my first post and some questions
by wallievase inthis is my first post after deciding to finally open an account here after months of 'lurking'.. a couple of issues i want to address-.
i have issues with people who go from being a witness to losing all faith in god or the bible which seems to be the case with some members of this site.
i just don't think you can let any religion change how you view god or the bible.. second-i don't feel the gb are bad people, i think most witnesses including them are misguided by something that has been drilled into their heads since they were little and are actually sincere people.

My sister almost died.
by redvip2000 inever since i was a little boy i've been aware of this vague story about my older sister having some issues at birth, but never knew the details.. yesterday i was having a conversation with a much older cousin, who is a non-practicing jw about different watchtower issues.
while discussing the blood issue she totally came out with the story about my sister, which i never knew before.. when my sister was born some 40 years ago, my mother had the delivery at home with the help of a midwife.
i'm not entirely sure why this decision was made instead of going to a hospital.

redvip,
So is your sister a practicing Witness now?
