have we got it wrong ? - lets review this year

lets review this year.

un debacle, silent lambs roared, panorama, cnn, dateline, march on brooklyn - all unheard of 12 months ago.. where has it got us, wtbs is still there - un moved and unphased.. have we done any damage - or did we get it wrong?.

i'm no lover of the society - but will anything move these guys?.

I think that before I grab my book bag and head back to the hall, I'll give it a bit more time. I haven't seen anyone claim that they are not a well-organized cult that has hit on a strong, repeatable formula. When things go well they telI everyone, including themselves, that God supports them. When things go poorly, they blame the wicked system of things and claim it is further evidence of the impending doom. - Tight as a drum. Don't forget, these are the people that rationalized away the embarassment of 1914, 1975.

I don't picture any cataclysmic collapse. At best, I see a slow sinking under the weight of fase prophecy. But no time soon.

remember going to conventions during the mid 80's?

sisters all dolled up in lolly-wrapper dresses of sparly taffeta with balloon sleeves and brothers strutting about with shiny grey siuts with narrow lapels and black leather ties?

OK, this is painful to share. I was in my late teens during the height of the disco era. So, I just had to have my hair parted down the middle. No it didn't want to go there by iteself, so I got a ... a .... perm - j ust a wave-perm that my 15-year-old sister did. Even so, it took a dog's age to blow-dry it so it would lay down on the upstream side, sort of.

But here goes (ouch!):

-Green VELVET Three-piece suit with a gold silk lining. Oh yeah, tight enough to read the year of the quarter in my pants pocket.

-Wide, tooled leather green belt.

-Light green BIG-collar plastic shirt.

-But to finish off the look, the piesta resistance - Green Patent Leather shoes, white tops, green tassles

I used to wear that monstrosity to the hall. I was in a clothes-horse competition with Darryl D. I thought it would be cathartic to write this. But I'm not so sure.

not just any song ... but the heretofore forbidden "star spangled banner".

i just felt like singing and i wanted to sing something challenging and it seemed like the perfect choice.

i posted a few weeks back and mentioned a recent wt article that implied russell's writings were somehow beneficial.

i thought the irony was worth sharing.. the watchtower, april 15, 2002, page 28.... "as observed in 1925 by remigio cuminetti, banchetti showed 'much sympathy' for the work of the bible students and was 'fully convinced' of the doctrines as explained by them.. on one occasion, banchetti was discussing russell's writings with a man named j.campbell wall.

I found it odd that they would quote someone who claimed to see "such light and such consolation" in the six volumes. Yet that same someone apparently did not see quite enough light to heed Jesus' invitation to "come, be my follower."

I wish they had seen fit to lay out at least one example of the enlightenment. What exactly did this goof find sooo revealing? I wonder if it could have been God's residence in the Taurus constellation. Could it be discovery that God himself was the architect of the Great Pyramid? Maybe it was the brilliance of the Great Jubilee deciphering that is in those volumes.

Then again, if they had quoted someone from inside the org., supporting Russell's writings, they would have to DF him right away. There is nothing in those volumes that they agree with.

But I can just picture the dubs sittting around at the head-nodding indoctrination session, completely failing to give this WT quote even the simplest critical thought.

i was raised in the truth since the age of 6 and at the age of 16 i was close to getting baptisted by then i recieved a chance to play college footbal so i fail off, but over the past year i've been striving to finally get dipped and i am at the point in my life were i've been there and seen it all, now i want my future wife to be a dedicated , baptisted servant of jehovah.

so the search is on.

please include age , years of dedication, children or not , & city

Tell you what - if you're still working to get dipped as a j-dub - you have much more in life to see, former college footbal player or not. Take a week's spare time and read up on you and your potential wife's religious pedigree.

Other than that, welcome, and good luck finding anyone here still being blindly lead by those clowns.

Abuse Problem Greater with the JW's?

i am interested in hearing comments from you regarding whether you feel the child abuse problem is greater within the jw 'religion' moreso than other religions or identifiable groups.. i know some have made the comment that it is and others say there is no difference.

on what do you basis your belief either way.

is it strictly that the environment is conducive to pedophiles co-existing with the cong or based on empirical data?.

I think it is as rampant among the JWs as any. But I suspect (and I have no facts) that you can expect to see the same issue in all isolationsist religions. The more isolationist, the more attractive it would be to someone that would like to hide in the dark. The more paranoid the leadership, the more attractive it would be to someone that would like to hide in the dark.

The JWs are one of many in this category.

who also seem to be smart.

and who generally have a good sense of humor.. have you noticed?.

I noticed that too. I'll tell you one thing, spend some time working thru something detailed with someone in a 'Bible Research' thread. There are some well-read folks over there.

It seems there is one characteristic of many here: they spent a lot of time and effort making up for the 'no educations' edicts.

i don't think any of this is really all that unusual so i'm sorry if you find it dull.

i was raised in the jw cult from birth, a third generation member to boot.

my family was full of elders, ministerial servants and overseers of all sorts.

he is in the hospital for a blood clot in his leg, which is potentially quite dangerous.

he cannot move until it is dissolved, if that happens.

Everyone involved has acceptable limits: you, them, her (she could do you a favor and keep the heat a bit lower). As long as everybody behaves, you're gonna have to get used to gloating.
