  A modest "Hello, everybody!"

  witnesses.net's and (a couple of years ago) hourglass2's the old hippie modestly says "hello" and enters if not the building then at least the area.

  live in europe, am - (i am sorry to say) - a countryman of the unholy trinity consisting of kent, jan h. and norm, and thus well updated with the practises of the observer-thing.

  do not support the majority of what they think or do.

  NEWS OF THE WEIRD: Jehovah's Will

  caught this nugget in news of the weird, a united features syndicate by chuck shepard (clipped from creative loafing in atlanta, ga).

  god's will.

  a 45-year old woman who was killed as she walked onto i-55 near sherman, ill., in october was revealed to have been a member of a jehovah's witnesses breakaway group that believes they should test their faith (much like snake-handlers do) by standing in the middle of traffic.

  I fearlessly predict that this group will not be around long. That will be of obviously be of considerable benefit to the gene pool. Does anyone know how to contact these people? There are a few folks I'd like to send in their direction.

  i think our little encounter with 'danielle' has now finished.

  i found it fun to start with but it became too much for me.

  100+ posts in a day or 2 is akin to an attack on the board.. it also brought cuddily little focus to the board which i suspect would have brought on flame war iii if things had continued.

  this is sort of a take-off of the "what should the wt do" thread.. i need to get together a board of directors and elect a president and officers.

  we need to figure out a doctrine, a manifesto, and a set of disciplinary rules.

  we need to figure out a way to fund our new movement.

  I have to weigh in as one who hopes most of that bunch doesn't show up here. The thing I like best about this board is that most people doen't take themselves too seriously and you can have a civil discussion, disagreement even, without a lot of rant and polemics. Let them go elsewhere with a couple of exceptions.

  when reading the new world translation i used to sometimes think, who translated this gobbledygook?..

  i just read another passage where the nwt manages to slaughter the english language.. acts 21:30 .

  nwt ...., and a running together of the people occurred:.... kjv ..., and the people ran together:.... niv ..., and the people came running from all directions.. this is an excerpt from the foreword of the nwt; it is a very responsible thing to translate the holy scriptures........into modern speech.

  Advantages of being a JW

  clearly there is a great deal of anti-jw sentiment here and elsewhere for that matter.

  such feelings are generally directed at those at the heart of the organisation and there are no such feelings for the rank and file who are often very genuine people.. in actual fact there are some advantages in being a fully loaded jw and to be fair it would be interesting to note them down.

  they can be factual or whimsical or both.

  larc, you couldn't be more wrong. I've lived it believe me. I remember when seven fellow pioneers sat around a table and told me I was essentially an apostate because I didn't believe 1975 was of any special significance. Not one of them remembered that conversation two years later. I remember when an elder told me I was a fool for pursuing an education because the system was going to end in a very short time. I told all those people to take a flying leap, nicely of course. It's amazing what you can get by with if you're polite. If you've never met a JW or X JW with views like mine then you've just been hanging around with the wrong people:{)

  Sassenach, I'd have to do some research to give you an accurate answer to your question and right now I don't have the time. Deadlines pressing, people clamoring for my attention and highly skilled assistance, you know how it is. Going to be completely tied up for the next couple of days, maybe this weekend.

  Just read your questions again. I believe you'd have to nail down the definition of 'before,' I suppose if that means immediately before, that's one thing and if it means a while before, that means something else. I wonder how many angeles can dance on the head of a pin.
