What, you all didn't find the inspired writing of the society's wedding tunes to be spiritually uplifting and fulfilling?

many of you may know that i teach at a small christian liberal arts college in nebraska now.
my pre-med students sponsored a blood drive yesterday and asked me to donate.
so, i donated blood for the first time.
I feel awful about it now, but I didn't give blood back during Sept 11.
We had stopped going to meetings for about 6 months or so, and were starting to drift away. I really, REALLY wanted to, but still believed what the WTBTS told me regarding blood, so I didn't.
I only just tore up my blood card last month, even though I've disagreed with significant points in their doctrine for some time. Just couldn't get past their brainwashing about how important that piece of paper was. Which is funny. I didn't believe their teachings, would want a blood tranfusion ('forced' on me to save my life I reasoned), but could not tear up this stupid card for so long.
Interesting question:
Anyone who was a 'good' JW kept their blood card with them at all times, signed and dated properly. How long after you 'left' did you destroy the card, or, at least, stop carrying it anymore?

this is a picture of the last kindom hall that i was the po.
i went by to take a picture yesterday and a couple of jws drove up.
i talked a few minutes and gave him the history of the hall, along with a few comments about my family and some of the questions i have about the new light.
I'm sure those are TRICK windows! They only let in new light.

Is this a worldwide phenomena, or just US? I seem to recall most KHs I went to as a kid had windows, but none seem to now.

People might ask about current WTBTS policy - might be a good idea to make sure you bring the relevant literature.
Also, spend some time browsing this message board taking note of people who've had run-ins with this policy. (I'd only use people who actually give their names as examples if asked).

easter, what's the real truth: previously, and as found in most encyclopedias, most scholars took the view of "the venerable bede" who in 8th century england speculated that the name easter may have come from the name for the anglo-saxon goddess eastre.
but closer research shows several other possibilities.
one is that the name more likely came from the latin for "white week" that spring week when people wore white to be baptized as christians.
I think the word pagan as is taught by the WBTS (and Christians in general) has some devious, dark meaning and it at once brings to mind people who are all evil, doing utterly gross things

No dark undertones here, we DON'T worship the devil (we don't even BELIEVE in a 'devil'), no child sacrifices, no blood drinking, etc.
Just normal everyday people who just happen to think there is a lot more divine in the world than most mainstream religions accept. (Buddhism, Hinduism, and most Eastern religions are also generally considered 'pagan', for point of reference).
Lots and lots of bad press, though.
