i was a little surprised to learn that many people do not really understand the purpose of jwd.
many are focused on freedom of speech and the fact that this is a "discussion" board.
to some this does seem to go against the heavy moderating the board has seen lately, feeling that discussion is suppressed, some going so far as to suggest that mind control is subtly involved here as in the organization.

Well, with all respect, it's easy to sit in an ivory tower and come out with glib statements like that. It would be easy if one were running a private forum to just invite people who we liked and got on with and then delete people who disagreed and have some twisted notion that everything was rosey and was being run "better". Ultimately though, a forum like this would really just be like a parasite, feeding off a proper site instead of existing on it's own.
Simon, with all respect....
You seem to be really angry much of the time. You completely misread Animal's post, IMHO. What makes any site "proper" or "improper" other than our own subjective opinions??
These words come across as nasty and resentful. I'm sure you did not mean them to be, did you?

PS "Its" (possessive as opposed to contraction of it is), does not have an apostrophe.
"... is terrorism" .
so says tony blair.. sheesh ... thanks for explaining that tony!
maybe mr bush has passed on the torch and next year we'll be able to buy books of "blairisms" instead of "bushisms" ?
Wasasister:
UMMMMMM......

What is your point ???
That's the thing about "ummmmm"; it is a lovely round sort of expression without points or anything implied other than deep contemplation.
I assumed that Simon's critical comments about Bush/Blair made the current event topic into a political one. I'm sorry if I drew the wrong conclusion. It's just that his post came very soon after he requested we stop focusing on politics, as this is not the purpose of the board.
I hope you understand my mistake and thank you for letting me know.
Wasa
PS: I am also deeply sorry about the loss of life and tragic events targeting Brittons.

I think it's getting a bit much. Please remember that while we dont mind some discussion of current affairs, we are not intending to be a political discussion forum.
I'm getting especially tired seeing some people making insulting and dismissive remarks and just posting dogma and propaganda. Worse still, it seems some people are *only* interested in posting on political threads and nothing else. Let me make it clear - that is not why we're here and if that is the only reason that you are here you will find the number of posts you have will be limited.
This of course goes for both sides.
Ummm......
on november 18th, twenty five years ago, in the desolate guyana jungle, the apocalypse occurred.
it is worthwhile to remember the significance of this event, an event that came to be known as ?jonestown?.
do you want to be home by christmas???
My younger daugther was born just a few days before Jonestown made the news.
I was sitting at home, nursing my infant, when I saw the horrific pictures of mothers lying beside babies they had just poisoned. I looked down on my precious baby girl and just burst into tears. I wondered how any mother could be so loyal to a cult that she could take her child's life.
Somehow, I never made the connection between those images, and JW mothers who would refuse a blood transfusion for much the same reasons.
My daughter and I just celebrated her 25th birthday.
why is it a social custom to say "congratulations" to a guy when his wife/gf has had/is having a baby?.
what has he done to deserve the sentiments?
all he's done is have an orgasm and spurt some semen into her?
Prisca: an interesting question; one that provoked some thoughtful responses.
I didn't find it "idiotic" at all. That sort of comment shows how subjective our opinions can be, based on our own personal filters.
I work closely with a young woman who has fertility issues. When she and her husband finally do conceive, I'll wish "contratulations" on both of them because I know of the effort and expense they've put into reproduction.

g'day god dodgers,
sitting, reading on the beach the other day, letting the wavelets wash my feet, a small boat came ashore just a few oar lengths to my starboard.
thence an elderly couple commenced heaving their aluminium dingy ashore.
My Dear Uncle, A link to sanity is something few of us can afford to dismiss so lightly. Pray tell, if I am to be yours, is the chain strong enough?
Yours in eternal bondage,
Wasa

Well, now. In some places, "Down Under", moisture in the nether-regions is a good thing.
Welcome back, you wanker.

i looked back five pages and didn't see a thread for this.. ash.
Good point, Phantom, and one that I was about to make before I saw you post. The Israeli Army is one of the most effective in the world. Beyond the fact that there seems to be very little sexual harassment going on (no Tailhook scandals), but they seem to have found a role for female soldiers without lowering the bar.
I would be interested to study the differences a little more before speculating on how they've managed it.
As to Jessica Lynch and whether or not she was sexually assaulted: I don't think anyone will really know for certain unless she miraculously regains her memory. The fact that so many have jumped on the possibility - including our dear Stacey - is a bit strange.
It does seem that most of her injuries were sustained during the vehicle crash and even bruising of the genitalia could have happened without a rape. I'm not saying she was not, but I don't think any doctor would go out on a limb to say it was absolutely a fact.

Granted, she endured much, as have all of our armed forces in Iraq, male and female. As for this:
Regardless, she endured extreme mistreatment at the hands of her Iraqi captors.
I would simply add that some of the Iraqis were not mistreating her. It appears the Iraqi doctors took very good care of her once they had her. Not all Iraqis are animals.
Whether she was raped or not may never be known. To add a sexual assault to this already sensationalized story would seem to be an easy marketing ploy. How better to get people to buy the book? (Witness the extreme expliotation of the Elizabeth Smart story)
IF - IF it is a ploy made up to appeal to the more purient interests of the book-buying public - then it is a slam in the face of every true rape victim. I'm sure Ms. Lynch would not want to be a party to such a thing.
And Stacy, what does Kobe Bryant have to do with this discussion??
