  her life embodied how the human spirit can rise from crushing conditions to mentor, role model and teacher.. she went mute for 5 years after being raped at the age of 9. in that time she found her inner spirit to write and speak for others.. her life course went from working in brothels to teaching in universites.

  from broken home to addressing the nation at william clinton's inaugeration.. her poems touched millions of lives.

  jgnat, I remember that as well... I did appreciate alot of her work as well.

  I had an english teacher who literally force fed us alot of her material in High School. She will be missed

  I had a skunk and a gopher problem under one of our utility sheds.

  Get a couple bottles of ammonia and some old shirts or rags and soak the shirts/rags in a bucket with the ammonia and then throw them in the area where the vermin are. Took care of my problem

  "Honour" Killing in Pakistan

  25 year old farzana iqbal was stoned to death by a crowd led by her own father and two of her brothers outside the high court in lahore yesterday.. her crime was to reject her cousin, who her family had decided she should marry, and fall in love with a man of her own choosing.. thousands of women are murdered every year in so-called "honour killings" but convictions are very rare.

  pakistani law permits victim's families to forgive a murderer, but in these cases the killers are family members who are nominated to carry out the execution by the rest of the family.. this is what happens when you allow a mysogynistic religion to influence secular law.. reuters report...l.

  IIt's sad that so many christians are up in arms about this when they are just mirroring the actions of the god in the bible.

  Bible god encourages stoning people... especially ones own children. Allah is simply the same god of the christian.

  Coping with becoming an atheist?

  its been a very eye opening experience for me to find out that the god of the bible is as real as thor or ra.

  i still believe a higher power created life but can see now how it doesn't really care about us.

  so with this in mind realizing one has only 70-80 years to live and that may be just it, is very stunning..

  Ray Franz - is he REALLY a hero?

  on one hand, he's enlightnened many to the internal circle jerk that is the governing body (circa the 70s).. but if there's one reason that can be pointed to for the jws becoming full on cult, it's ray franz.

  without him leaving in the manner he did, and stirring the pot, they might not have change the rule (retroatively i might add) on shunning of disassociated ones.

  they specifically changed that so they could remove him and eliminate his influence.. his actions single handedly have created the situation where we have to fade, evade, leave marriages, say goodbye to family, just because we don't buy the jw bullsh!t anymore.

  Men's hair

  many of my church leaders have inisisted that short hair for men is a strict scriptural doctrine, and not to be argued against.

  what do people think?.

  Can you really as an intelligent free thinking human being believe that god would somehow want to kill you for having long hair that he makes grow out of your scalp? If he really cared wouldn't he make it just stop growing at a particular length? As Samson he can probably tell you something about how god really feels

  Fred Franz Personal Experiences

  there is so little to be found about the personal side of fred franz.

  it's as if he was an enigma except for his appearances to give district convention speeches years ago.

  there is, of course, ray franz' take on his uncle in his book coc.. please share you first-hand, or second-hand reliable, experiences.

  I went to visit him in the infirmary with my brother, mother and father back in the early 90's as a teen.

  He was definitely a rockstar to most of the witnesses of my parents age group. I will admit whenm I first got there and he was babbling on and on about the glorious blah blah blah I wanted to leave. However he started speaking different languages and reaching out to touch people and have real conversation. He was blind so that was kind of creepy but he did genuinely want to spend time with people. I know he talked to his shoes etc... but he was a very very intelligent man that led many people down a deadly course but I do not believe that his intention was to genuinely cause peopple pain.

  Yes it has all but disappeared for me and quite quickly I might add.

  For me however it was not that I fewlt I had finally appeased Jesus or anything. It was the fact that I came to the realization I had no one to please except myself and family. You will be fine regardless of what your current feelings may be
