"Just When I Thought I Was Out....."
by undercover in"....they pull me back in".
anybody ever felt like that?
not leaving the mafia but that you think you have completed a fade-away from the wts only to have elders and family start hounding you all over again?.

When to build a new congregation
by undercover inthe thread about the mood of the congregation got me to thinking about when new halls are built when attendance doesn't seem to justify it.. does a congregation whose attendance is stagnant, maybe decreasing a little and who is sharing a hall with another congregation or two need to build a new hall to call its own?
looking at it strictly from a local financial standpoint, it doesn't make sense.
why add a burden to the friends in building a new building and having all new mortgages and expenses?

Christmas before Armaggedon arrives
by undercover indoes anyone else remember(years ago) the wts claiming that as time went on and people became less and less godless, that in the years right before armaggedon was to strike, people would forego the celebrating of christmas?.
i remember this being taught when i was a young-un.
i don't know if it was ever in print or not, but i definately remember it being said at book studies and kh meetings.. somebody tell me i'm not dreaming this.

Star of Bethlehem
by undercover inthe bible, only in matthew(i think) speaks of the star that the astrologers followed to find the baby jesus.
the wts has claimed that this star obviously was a product of satan, since the astrolgers first wound up in jersusalem, met herod, who conspired with them to locate the baby.
after that, the astrologers continued on to bethlehem.. a couple of questions:.

"Beware the Voice of the WTS"
by undercover ini've been thinking about the part at the dc on "beware the voice of strangers".
they mention three areas to watch: any dissenting talk against the organization, the internet and the media(as in newspapers, news-shows on tv, etc.).
there's been quite a bit of talk already on this board about the internet part of the talk.

Conversation with a non JW about JWs
by undercover ina nonjw friend asked me about my past with the jws today.
he knows that i have basically quit.
i tried to explain how i came to see that they weren't the "true religion" but it was hard to do without telling him about what the jws believe.

So called humanitarianism
by undercover inin another thread regarding the saturday afternoon convention program, 95stormfront wrote about the wts aid in helping victims of a storm:they again shamelessly plugged how they were oh-so- helpful to victims of allison, the rainstorm that put the city of houston underwater two years ago and how money poured in from witnesses around the world.
what they failed to mention was that all the supplies they used were either donated, or bought at very reduced rates using government grants, stored in donated space, all the labor was provided free by brothers in the building industry.
they also failed to mention that it took anywhere from 6 to 8 months for them to finish the work on individual homes and that after it was finished, you were presented with an invoice detailing all the hardware used with a total of what the retail cost of what those items would've been.

Real Estate Scam in the Name of Religion
by undercover ini layed awake last night thinking this through, trying to understand it..... a congregation needs to build a hall.
the money for this loan comes from donations from the worldwide brotherhood.
so in effect, the congregation is borrowing some of its own money back.

"These things aren't wrong in themselves....."
by undercover inanyone else remember those talks about being materialistic?
i can remember when the brother would go on about owning the latest gadgets, new cars, boats and bigger houses.
it seems they always precluded their remarks with, "these things aren't wrong in themselves...." and then would go on to make a big deal about how unspiritual it would be to own these things.
