So - Cedars is a shadowy underground figure?
AAWA should change their name to aawanonymous
i know i'm going to get bagged on for this, but i'm really just trying to help those who are fading if they have facebook or are on any social media outlets.. first off let's review.. .com stands for commercial.
.net stands for network.
....etc.. so facebook.com is a commercial site, meaning they are trying to sell you something....or specialized advertising trying to get you to buy something because of your browsing history.
Facebook 101 for faders:
Simple, yet easy rule:
Don't post anything or join anything or like anything or friend anyone that you don't mind your JW family or stalking JW elders to see. Period.
And before someone goes off on the AAWA thing, if faders hadn't friended other faders or ex-JWs, they wouldn't have been lumped into the crowd that got caught up in the mess. Not blaming them, it ain't their fault, but you can't intermingle two lives into one social network and not expect some risk of exposure. If you don't want that risk, then don't use Facebook to interact with the ex-JW crowd.
this is crazy..... .
questions from readers.
how should christians view fortune cookies?.
Good parady... and not so far from the truth.
I remember as a kid, we were not allowed to read our 'forutnes' from fortune cookies. And the reasoning wasn't so far from what the parady article alluded to.

Seems my long term paranoia has come in handy. I've been very, very careful about who I actually let know who I really am. I've met all of five people from JWN, and know one or two more that I haven't actually met in person. I feel I can trust a few that I've come to know along the way, but anything you put on the Internet lives pretty much forever... or you have to think that way.
But, as the old saying goes, when people are out to get you, then paranoia is just good thinking. While I'm out of the JW religion for all intents and purposes, I am not known as an opposer or apostate. I'm inactive in most dubs eyes. Very few know my true feelings about the cult. And I keep that to myself so I don't cause friction in my JW family, as I try to get them to see the light for themselves. May never happen, I know, but I keep trying. And as more and more time goes by, the less I really care about getting found out, but I'd rather do it on my terms. I wouldn't want to be torpedoed like several here have reported, and like the thread originator. What he must be going through, and especially having never heard of AAWA. Hope it works out for him.
I feel bad for a couple of people I came to respect and like that are part of the AAWA group and who are now caught up in this shitstorm. Hope they're doing okay as they try to muck their way through the mess as well.
here's the thing,.
the whole aawa idea had noble ideas behind it, but the ship has sailed and the movement needs to go back to the drawing board.
period.
Excuse me for hijacking the thread back from Sabastious, but -
I'm finally going to weigh in here. Other than making a smartass comment or two, I havent said anything about this entire AAWA thing. No one really cares what I have to say about anything anyway, so why bother... but I'm gonna say it anyway and y'all can ignore it, flame it, like it, hate it. Don't give a shit. It's my opinion.
Ever since the first thread that announced the AAWA, my spidey sense started tingling. Not sure why, I didn't expect it to blow up into the mess it did. But I had reservations about a group of ex-JWs creating a legal entity in order to fight the WTS. I saw some well respected names on the list of the founding group, so I hoped it might be a well run deal (how'd that work out?), but to me, our dealings with the WTS, its doctrines, the local elders, our JW family are personal fights and dealings. We each have to face our obstacles and do what we think is right for us personally. Some can be out front and flying the aposate flag with pride...others have to be coy and secretive, undermining the WTS authority from within, not to crush the Empire, but to free one or two people only.
Face it. You're not going to bring down a 7 million person strong religion. You have to do what you can do to free yourself, your mate, best friend, parents, children. That, and the fact that I dont' want or need some group representing me is why I never took to the idea, nor gave thought of aligning myself with them in any kind of way. I'm a guerilla fighter. And my fight is for personal gain...my family. For no other reason and once I win that battle, the war is over for me.
And as we all know, the more 'in your face' you are about the misdealings, and screwups, and screwed up doctrines you are about the WTS, the more you drive the sheeple under their protective cloak. Being out front, taking the fight to them does not help my family. It only gives them a persecution complex that makes it harder for me to undermine on the sly.
I think more harm is done to the WTS by forums like this, where ideas and experiences are shared. Websites like JWFacts where factual information about the WTS is available for anyone to view it...without it being forced down their throat. Until a JW wants to question and see the information for themselves, they aren't going to look. But when they are ready, it's great to find a wealth of information on the 'net, without a provactive and antagonistic force trying to lead the way.
My opinion, for what it's worth.
Carry on...
so i get a text message this morning from an elder (also an old friend) from my hall.
(mind you i haven't been to meetings in months) he says the following:.
elder: did you hear about what happend in bos?
Had a similar thing happen to me after 9/11. I remember watching TV and being horrified at the events unfolding, but then shortly after, during an elder's sheparding call, they touted that horrible day as something to rejoice in because it could be the start of Armageddon. I wasn't as quick on my feet as you were, though I did take offense at their rejoicing at such horror.
I think they've taken that "raise your head erect, for your deliverence is near" and misintrepreted it to, "rejoice in the trials of others, because 'we told you so' "
Phizzy, the reason you state regarding smoking being related to spiritism is one basis, and is still current. However, the primary reason used in disfellowshipping actions is this one:
[insert boring, inane Proclaimer's quote. Sidebar: The first quote is enough to end the discussion - "the bible does not mention tobacco" ]
You realize of course that the Proclaimer's explanation is just a smoke (heh heh) screen to cover up the original doctrine - that silly notion of smoking invites demons into your lungs. Ask a dub today why smoking is a DFing offense and odds are no one knows shit about the 70s WTS teaching that smoking was a link to spiritism.
ugh.
on one hand i'm glad she's ok. rather sickly.
but once she got word i've been inactive, she's all hot and bothered to get me back to meetings.. "did you attend the memorial this year?".
"Did you attend the Memorial this year?"
"No". I told you it's been like 10 years now"
"Oh cmon, Adam?"
"I told you. Why can't you accept the answer, 'I'm not interested'"
You should go. There's a whole section of the talk about you and why Jesus had to die because of you. I'm sure you'd find it highly entertaining...
my computer crashed so i am not fully informed of the recent antiwatchtower organization.
i must vent, however.
perhaps i am the only one on the face of the earth (or the entire universe) but i found cedar's opening announcement insulting.
JWN, it seems, is full of legends in their own lunch breaks.
I'm on a cigarette break, thank you very much
