About five years after I left the JWs, it was a blood transfusion that saved my life. My mother who had not spoken to me other than to belittle and play mind games with me found out that I was not doing so well. She never asked me how I was, but rather, did I take a blood transfusion. As if it even mattered. I never answered her question, because it wasn't any of her business.

I realized today what I am, and why they look at me with contempt
by Tameria2001 intoday my inlaws wanted to meet their new great-grandson.
they hadn't been in our lives since we left the jws back in 2001. but every time, even though very briefly, i was around them, they always had this same look on their face.
it was of utter and complete disgust.

The thing that drives me crazy about my father-in-law is that he is one of the biggest hypocrites that I have ever known. I've seen that man at family birthday parties, celebrating, and singing right along with everyone else. This man is so disgusting that he put his own wife in a bad situation, and got her disfellowshipped for it. She did get reinstated about a year later, but not after being humiliated for that time period.

Anti vaccines
by blisterfeet ini personally feel that vaccinations are beneficial.
there has been a modern movement that vaccinations are more harmful than beneficial to which i disagree.
what is your stance as an ex jw on vaccinating your children?

I'm sure this is a result of those not getting their children vaccinated.
Washington is under a state of emergency as measles cases rise

I use to know one woman who got pregnant because she was raped when she was a teen and made the mistake of getting baptized before that. When her pregnancy (because of the rape) became known she was both disfellowshipped and kicked out of her home before she was 16. Eventually, she met a really good guy, and they got married. She also became a nurse.

Yes, steve2, I'm an-JW. My mom decided to become a JW when I was 4 to survive the big A in 75. She had convinced me that it was the right path, that was until I started to think for myself
Today left me mentally exhausted, as it always does when dealing with my in-laws (both JWs and non-JWs).

Today my inlaws wanted to meet their new great-grandson. They hadn't been in our lives since we left the JWs back in 2001. But every time, even though very briefly, I was around them, they always had this same look on their face. It was of utter and complete disgust. Most of the time they would leave as soon as they saw me or would call whomever and make up some lame @$$ excuse about why they couldn't make it (family gatherings and such).
Anyways back to today, when they saw me, they again got that same look of utter contempt, but this time they couldn't leave, because they were sitting in a corner and no way to "escape". To make a long story short, it finally dawned on me what they think of me, and that is that I am of the walking dead. Well, guess what? This "zombie" was seated right next to my JW father-in-law, and nowhere to run, and he had to sit there for two hours. lol

Nearly 500 migrant children taken from parents -- that's nothing compared to JW disfellowshipping
by FatFreek 2005 inseveral months ago the news was intense about the hundreds of families broken apart by u.s. immigration.
many children were sometimes separated by their parents, sometimes for weeks at a time.
"still separated: nearly 500 migrant children taken from their parents remain in u.s. custody” aug 31, washington post.

Now just combine that number with other religions/cults who do the exact same thing as JWs and shun. I really hate religion. It's not just the JWs who do this, but other mainstream religious people do it as well. My aunt asked me if I was going to church, and when I told her no, that was the last I heard from her, and that was over five years ago. It wasn't just her, I haven't talked with her grown children either after that. It doesn't take long for word to spread. These were people that I knew very well growing up and spent quite a bit of time with.

I'm one of those who was here for a while, then I wasn't for a long time. It was not because I went back, I'll never do that. Just get busy with life, and other stuff. Sometimes I get disconnected from the internet as well, when that happens it could be a year or two before I get connected again.

I feel for you, for quite a few years my husband too also allowed other things to come first, and it made me a really cranky wife. He didn't have the excuse of forgetting, because he was the one who set the date, it is four days after his birthday. Eventually, I decided it was just too much work to get worked up over this one day, and decided just to forget about it myself. For some odd reason, once I stopped carrying about our anniversary, my husband took notice of this. He would bring it up from time to time, and I would make a comment like, "Oh it's that time again." or some other comment like I didn't care. I think it scared him, because every year on our wedding anniversary, he is the one who puts effort into it now.

My son worked for a food delivery company, and he called them a huge ripoff. He was supposed to work in a certain area (two connecting towns), but they had him running all over two different and very large counties. As far as tips, the only tips he got were from the customer themselves, which was not many.
