Restricted access to the Bethel libraries
by Room 215 ingamaliel,.
in your most interesting post in response to the thread in reference above, you mentioned ``access to the bethel libraries" as one of the prerogatives of your position, you suggest that such access is currently restricted or privileged.
my experience there in the mid-sixties was that the libraries were freely available to all members of the bethel family; indeed, during the six-month period of our new-boy initiation, we were expected/required to spend three hours on non-meeting nights to do our primary school research/homework.

Watchtower Society Dilemma: How do they keep the numbers UP?
by Gamaliel inthe society doesn't loudly report the number of baptized members.
it is more interested in average publishers, and then peak publishers in any specific month of reporting.
(the publishers can include children and those in the "pipeline" for baptism.

Jaracz Denounces Traditional Latino Celebrations!
by czarofmischief inracist comments revive religion.
ted jaracz, head of the organization formerly known as jehovah's witnesses, today launched a verbal assault on latino communities in the los angeles area.
his comments incensed local and national civil rights leaders, while at the same time provided a focus for a religion that some say has lost its way.. referring to the traditional habit among certain latin american communities of firing their guns into the air during celebrations, jaracz denounced this as "an obvious attempt to bring down the kingdom of god.".

Golden age magazines
by golden age in.
the golden age mags are really hard to find.. would it not be great if someone put together a collection of golden age mags, on cd rom for instance.
unfortunatly this does not exist but a reexamine.org has a place to upload useful literature scans, if everyone uploaded the particular isssues they have of the golden age we could eventually have a complete set.

USA White House Officials force Career "Homi-Suicide" a-la UK's David Kelly
by Gamaliel ini found this article to be a bit surprising from our "new york and long island" newspaper that used to be so pro-israel, anti-palestinian in its reporting over the years.
it's effectively the same type of governmental attack on a lifetime career that evidently led to the suicide (or worse) of david kelly in london.
(david kelly was the scientist who committed suicide last week just days after being called before a parliamentary committee to question his participation in the story that blair's aides had "sexed up" a lack of evidence to make it appear like evidence blair needed to get backing for the invasion of iraq.

Books from THE PERSONAL READING LIST OF JESUS -- WHILE SUPPLIES LAST!!
by Gamaliel inthe wt admits that jesus was king as far back as the year 33 c.e., but he supposedly didn't do much while just sitting on a throne at god's right hand and ruling god's "kingdom of the son of his love" (col 1:13).
it wasn't until he "stands up" from that throne in 1914 that he really arrived in full kingdom power and became "present".
so christians should be extrememly interested in exactly what jesus did in his first acts when he became a truly, powerful king!

CNN: Bush lost OIL DRILLING vote yesterday even w/ wartime security appeal
by Gamaliel inhttp://www.cnn.com/2003/allpolitics/03/19/anwar.vote.ap/index.html
of course, it's completely unrelated to the fact that the war with iraq started on the same day, but i thought some might be interested.
5 democrats voted for bush's proposal, which is usually enough for a sure win, but 8 republicans voted along the democrats line.. looks like it was only 3 years worth of oil anyway.
