  The Bible Student movement is a Millennialist[1] Restorationist Christian movement. It emerged from the teachings and ministry of Charles Taze Russell (1852–1916), also known as Pastor Russell, and his founding of the Zion's Watch Tower Tract Society in 1881. Members of the movement have variously referred to themselves as Bible Students, International Bible Students, Associated Bible Students, or Independent Bible Students.

  I also understood the Berean Bible Students in Melbourne Aust. were a breakaway group from Russell according to a then Presiding Overseer in the 1960`s .

  i found a company and employed an elder as an underwriter and two ms as sales and marketing.

  anyway, this elder will delegate his work to the ms in sales and marketing, so he can go home early.

  he knew when he got started that this would be a 10 hour a day job with some saturday.

  I loved Xmas and Easter as I put my hand up every time because nobody else ever wanted to work those holidays .

  And it just became accepted that I would be available as it turned out for 28 years .

  I think Rutherford was determined to distance himself any way he could from Christendoms religions and call the religion Jehovah`s Witnesses .

  I think the mistake he made was settling on the name Jehovah which was in fact used throughout Christendom for centuries.

  Inscribed in stone on ancient churches in Europe and elsewhere.

  And the Catholic Douay version of the Bible.

  Maybe he should have used something like Yahweh or some equivalent to differentiate themselves even more from Christendom.

  Thank you Atlantis for publishing that list posted by "Alfred" .

  I might actually print a copy of that list and send it to my niece.

  It can`t do any harm as she never contacts us anymore like she once did.

  It includes an interesting chapter on the Standfast movement

  Can someone elaborate on what the Standfast movement refers to ? JW`s related. or no ?

  OK ,I googled it and its all news to me about this and I was a JW for 32 years ,how was this possible ?

  Stand Fast and the Elijah Voice Society Many IBSA classes in the Northwest backed “The Finished Mystery.” But Charles E. Heard of Vancouver B.C. and many others felt Rutherford’s recommendation in 1918 Spring to buy war bonds was cowardice, and sacrilegiously perpetuating harvest work.

  And that`s just the introduction .

  i am looking for a tms that was published in the early 70s that said many have sold homes to go where the need was great, this is a fine way to spend ones time in the last days.

  i am trying to remember how it was said to the best of my knowledge but this is close.

  some older JWs have privately said the religion Did predict 1975.

  Yes and I can vouch for that as well though in not so many words but they sure did imply it in many of their publications as has been well documented on this forum.

  Of course that`s when they believed that 6 thousand years of human history would end in 1975 .

  And of course back then what we didn`t know was that 1975 was a revision of an earlier date that had been promoted as the end of 6 thousand years of human history in the late 1800`s by the WT.

  And I recall praise given to those who sold up what they owned and went to serve where the need was great because the end was so close .

  I was baptized in 1960.

  Dummy me still stuck around till about 1993.

  What have you forgotten you ever even knew?

  at a certain point, as the years tick by, you start to realize that you have forgotten a lot of things.

  typically, something you learned, some knowledge or skill you used to have, that you just haven't used for so long you no longer remember anything but that you once knew it.. i saw an article about electrical resistors the other day, and how the colored bands signify the rating.

  now all i remember is that i used to know it, and that resistors do something with, erm, electricity ...

  The last place I worked at ,for 28 years, about 15 of us worked together and I can`t remember most of them ,and that was about 15 years ago when I retired.

  Bad Associations spoil useful habits. Are the JWs right? Scripturally?

  it has been interesting for me to learn the various ways that the jws twist the scriptures to fit their own dogma.

  (of course jws aren't alone in that, but that's another topic.

  ) two quick examples of jws not following or going beyond the bible are blood and birthdays.

  Any Tom Dick or Harry could have told us that.

  It`s not as if it`s a GOD inspired thought .

  watchtower bible and tract society of new york, inc. dear brothers:.. we received your letter of december 17 in which you inquire about handling a situation involving a brother who has been guilty of serious violation of the law in the past.. you explained that you received information indicating that this brother ?committed several murders and crimes before his baptism.

  you ask if law obligates some action on our part.

  I was just wondering ?

  Has anybody ever downloaded /copied this letter and sent it to a National Newspaper or a Current Affairs TV broadcast anywhere in the world ?

  Surely an investigative journalist of the media could have a ball digging into the background of this letter from the JW HQ. ?

  Wouldn`t it be a story worth telling ?
