Ridiculous trips to the 'back room'

the posts in the elders meeting thread got me thinking about this, so i've spun it off for into another thread.. were you ever 'counseled' because "some" in the congregation were disturbed by things you said/did/listened to/watched?.

here is just some of the stupid stuff that the elders brought me in on.

though they were usually handled through shepherding calls, not in the back room at the kh.. 1: because i decided to change my first and middle names.

I was called into the "back room" several times for not being submissive to my step dad and for being a burden on him. It was also a reason that they used to deny my application to Regular Pioneer. How was I being a burden? Let me tell you how, I had my own job, paid rent to the man for living in a house he owned (not the one he lived in), had my own car, etc. But since I wasn't married he was still considered the "head" of my household.

An old friend of mine married a MS after being advised by the congregation elders that it was her duty, since after all, he did move across 4 states to live near her town (he was obsessed). From there he not only forbade her to drive her car (she bought it way before they were married, before they ever met), even going to the length of tearing out all the wiring, among other things. She left him and is still married to him but living with her Grandma nearly half way across the country from him. Even though she is not DF or has DA'd herself, she is still shunned. They think it was her wifely duty to submit to him in every way and obey his every word. Nonsense I tell ya!

ok bobsgirl got a bunch of advice, now i'd like to hear from the women.

our anniversary (27 years)is this weekend.

i've rented a place that has beach access and a hottub (on whidbey island for those in the seattle area).

Definately something from the heart, doesn't have to be practical. Sure, maybe she needs a new iron, but that will only leave her feeling like the maid. A piece of jewelry, scented bath beads, etc. Something more personal. Take lessons from my DH and don't do what he does.....LOL...like buy her a satelitte dish!

Funny, someone said that Pearl Jam doesn't use the fuc* word very often, have you heard their song "Leash" (I was a huge PJ fan in high school and still enjoy them)? Next time I hear it I'm going to count how many times they use fuc* in it...quite a bit I think.

About U2 and the Joshua Tree, the same elder who counseled all us younger ones that it was bad because it contained religious undertones had the very same CD and would listen to it very often (anytime I saw him out anywhere, which in a small town, I saw him often). LOL....talk about double standards.

not being as dramatic as some of them out there still thought i would share:).

i was born a jw as my mom was raised one from the time she was a toddler.

I see here that MMM has distracted everyone from the origional post, the original topic of this thread. And it is a shame that this "person" would cause such a thing.

FYI, MMM, We are all here to be encouraged and get support in our new life. And the ones who have been away from the horrible place you call home, come here to help us "babes" through it all. It is truely a wonderful place to be.

I post this knowing that even though MMM says they will not return, the probably will, whether s/he posts again or not.

Rick, I am here apologizing for what your thread has turned into. I did have a part in it and I offer you my sincerest apologies. It's too bad that ppl like MyMailMum feel so differently and contuinue to try to prey on us all.

Education idiot!

if most of you were jw's at one time, am i right in assuming that most of you are uneducated?

anyone here actually have a degree of some sort?

I presently do not hold any degrees. Only a GED that was burned by my mother because it made me "wordly". But, I have worked as an uncertified MA, working in medical offices, and plan to go back to doing so shortly (had a few family things to take care of with my IL's). My home will be paid for in about a year and I will then work toward becoming a certified MA, also perhaps a RT.

Because I can't seem to become.... unconfused!! When I met my current Dh, we were told by the elders that even a hello or a glance at the KH (much less anywhere else) was forbidden. Now mind you we had only exchanged names the week before and hadn't spoken since. Suddenly we were allowed to only have phone conversations. OK, confused I was and still am but eventually "let it go" in a sense.....

Untill recently........

Since I DA'd myself over a year ago, my parents were strictly forbidden to have any contact with me whatsoever, unless, of course, it was taking their grandchildren for a visit so they could bring my children to the KH. Now my last visit to my grandmother's house (my mother's mom), we let the kids spend one night with my mother. We went over to pick them up and we were shocked at what occured.

Not only did they open the gate and the foot of the hill where their private driveway starts (they live at the top of a mountain like hermits), they also invited us up onto the porch. From there, into the house. And then tried to hold a conversation with us in the living room. At first I thought maybe it was because my sister was out of town (she's a tattle, big time). But then they told us that the elders had recently had a meeting with my step father and my mother and told them it was ok to associate with us as long as there was no spiritual talk.

Is there a reason for them changing their minds so often and quickly about what is suppose to be very serious subjects??

Are any of you also confused by this behavior? If not, can you please explain it to me because I am lost other than it's their normal double standard policy now that my step father is a MS.

We are forgetting something.

those of us who are no longer jw's were jw's at one point in time, correct?.

we all know for a fact that 95% of jw's do care - so much - that they endure mosquitoes, heat, cold, fire ants, rabid dogs, loss of personal income, spend their free time dedicated to helping others, and much much more to help assholes who hate them to help save their lives.. please - do not carry anger towards these people, because we were once like them (blind.

) it is not their fault they are wrong - because at one point in time we were all like them.

I agree that yes, sometimes we do tend to forget that we use to be as zealous to teach others the JW way of life as we are now of staying the hell away from it. But I myself still hold resentment for the life that was taken away from me, years, my entire childhood just snatched away that can never be taken back. I still hold grudges towards those who in the congs. who have beaten me, not only with their switches and branches and books (literally), but also with their words and stabbing stares because my skirt was calf length and not ankle length. I do still harbor a lot of bitterness. And admitting to it is the first step to recovery IMO. Now, if I can just get past it to look for what good there was in my experience as a JW (even though once I filter through the beatings, etc there isn't much left). But it is all a part of the healing process. Those of you who have been awhile for a while, or who started to take care of the problems right away may not be bitter any longer. But then there are those of us who are recently seperated by the Witnesses or who feel we are. I myself tried to just forget the whole ordeal, the entire 11 years of my life. And now here I am a year and a half later, trying to start healing and having to try to remember exactly what it was that wounded me so badly in the first place.

I do have to say this is the first time I've not seen an automated response from you. But you are decieved by the twisted mentally ill who are running the entire show, namely the WTS. But if you want to be sucked in by them, by all means, go right on ahead. It is no business of mine what they do with your life.
