I'm afraid there are only 2 ways of being a true believin' Christian

the first way is to be completely ignorant.to ignore the fact that the bible is a hopelessly flawed man made document, and all other reasoned argument and evidence that points to the non existence of the christian god.

this strategy basically involves living inside mental cocoon and closing your eyes to any alternative views.

the best way to employ this tactic is to perform a whole lot repetitive and ritualistic action; a whole lot of head bowing and praying etc... etc....you know the drill!.

I used to see things similarly while I was a Pagan, which makes it all the more ironic that I'm a Christian now. *g* Now, I feel a little silly for having been just as narrow-minded as I claimed Christians were.

I actually wrote a short essay on this subject -- what makes a Christian -- about a week ago, and I think it's appropriate that I link it here:

I want to say it's just my opinion, but I would be lying. I truly, honestly believe that that IS what makes a Christian a "true" Christian. Agree with it or don't (it doesn't matter much to me, and this sentiment is addressed to no one in particular), I'm just putting it out there. And from the looks of things, I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

I just read your story, it is very interesting. So, if you use your powers for good, can you give me a million dollars?

*laughs* Well, I can't think of any witch in the world, Christian or otherwise, who would make a promise like that unless they were... ethically challenged. So, no, I can't. Sorry 'bout that.

As for how I first met the Witnesses, like I said, I was determined to find the true Christian faith. My father was a big fan of Garner Ted Armstrong back then, and I picked up a lot of my beliefs from him: Holidays weren't Christian, Sunday's not the Sabbath, etc. I started off by looking for a Christian sect which didn't celebrate holidays, and the Witnesses were right there. So, the next time they stopped by the house, I accepted their offer for a Bible study. It all went [downhill] from there.

I guess God was trying to teach me a lesson: having the longest list of rules doesn't determine whether or not a person/group is truly Christian. In fact, it seems as though more rules equal less genuine spirituality since they come from the outside. The most important things are simple, and they always start from within.

ok, so here's the situation.

i am 24 yrs old.

married and have 1 child.

More recently,...probably since my son was born I am feeling very depressed and just high strung. I want to go back to the meetings and become a full time witness again.

I'm inclined to agree with those who have suggested that post-partum depression may be a factor. You may want to look up information on the topic and/or make an appointment to see a therapist. But I can't help feeling that there's something else going on, too. You said you want the promise of the New System for your son, but do you really believe in it? That the Witnesses own the only road to a fulfilling life and/or a bright spiritual future? Or are you just afraid not to believe it?

Why ? Why? WHY???

this topic has been rolling around in my head for some time.

i don't expect that i'll write it perfectly as it needs to be articulated in different ways for different people...but i will do my best.

and worst of all, i am not expecting any kind of response that will satisfy me.

If you can slide through your whole life without experiencing it, you probably will. But if you actually NEED the proof, then it will happen. It will be something you won't expect. Something that if you tried to explain to someone else, it would sound silly and trite. But in your heart you will know it to be what it is.

There are no words in any known language which can express how profoundly right I think you are. If there's a legal limit to "right," you're about to be arrested.

That's exactly how it was for me. I've written about it on my Web site, and I know that no one who doesn't want to believe in God (or just the Christian God) will take it seriously, and I don't mind. Other people's spiritual choices aren't my business unless they want it to be. But my own life hasn't been the same since I got my "proof." Since then, it's been a journey; a lot of it is God putting me in situations that force me to confront my past and certain aspects of myself that I haven't dealt with before. And whenever I look back, it's eerie how some things just fall into place, like someone's been planning it from the beginning. I'm looking forward to meeting the real me.

What did you pray for when you were a JW?

did you pray for health, even if you knew that only in the new system your health would get better.... did you pray for a bible study?.

did you pray not to be tempted by the debil?

I must've prayed for quite a few things, but I remember three clearly.

1. I often prayed for a husband since, after all, a woman is useless by herself and I wasn't getting any younger.

2. In my darker moments (and there were a lot of them towards the end) I prayed for death.

3. This is the one that stands out the most. I remember one night when, in tears and in genuine pain, I asked God why he loved women less than he loved men, why women were just property. I asked why he gave my all of my gifts and abilities when, since I wasn't a man, I would always be inferior. I probably should have realized on that very night that being a JW was patently unhealthy for me.
