What's the most dumbest/petty thing you've heard of someone being "stumbled" over?

- some loser once took offense that i hugged a sister goodbye at a leaving do and ran back to the elders like a little child telling on me.

i was 15, this sister was in her 40s at the time.. - this elder said someone told him they saw me with a copy of the sun newspaper.

yes, this paper is known for its 'page 3' topless girls but far from pornagraphic and i wasn't even thinking along those lines.. - one brother who had a good job was 'counselled' because he was actually able to buy himself nice things including a new car (shock, horror!!

I was never counseled..

But when I was a young mother of three I did a sister's ironing to pay for the gas she used picking me up and taking me to meetings and taking me out in service..a brother found out and counseled her for letting me do that. That he said was like charging me to do somthing that should be coming from the heart. Paying for gas was a option, not a requirement. Letting me iron to pay for it was wrong. I found out later that it was another sister that told on her..she told the brothers this sister was taking advantage of me. It just so happened this sister that told on me, I also did her ironing but she was paying me for it. A lot more than the cost of a tank of gas..so she was right!.

Don't even ask about being uninvited to the anniversary party.

Do You Blame Your Current Life's Issues Because You Were A JW?

do you tend to blame your problems on the fact that you were a jehovah's witness?.

No, I blame them on the problems I had that led me to become a JW..no one twisted my arm and forced me to become one. I was not born in. Even then a born in can grow up and leave anytime they want. I blame it on a person's personality and personal shortcomings..we can always change who we are..even if we can't change what we were..

Believe it or not some even called it "The Way" back in the 50's. I know there is a religion that goes by that name but they meant it was the only way to get everlasting life when they said it. Instead of "The Truth some witnesses said "The Way". I don't know if the magazines ever reflected that saying but I heard many I associated with call it that back then.

I did find one article a while back tht called it that in discussing a bible scripture but have no idea where it is now.

Snoozy, who never ever refers to it as "The Truth"". I always call it the Jehovah's Witness religion or the WTBTS ..

i remember my mum standing at the kitchen sink preparing little cypriot meat patties in a beat up enamel dish.

there was a window overlooking the small garden where me and my brother and sisters used to play (wonderful, wonderful times before the cult got its tentacles into our family).. my mum used to sing lots of tunes but this lynn anderson song is the one i remember .

OMG Broken Promises my Mom sang that too! (Bonnie lies over the ocean) Only thing is my Mom only sang it when she was mad at my dad or the world.. Whenever she would start singing it I knew something was in the wind..I usually went to my girlfriends house for a while..my Dad confessed to having an affair when overseas in the army and I think if had something to do with that, Whenever she thought of that she would sing that song..and not in a pretty way.

A cure story, when I was cleaning out my Dad's stuff I came accross a tape recorder..my Mom had previously passed away. A year before. Anyway, I pressed play and there was my Mom singing a love song to my Dad..I got goosebumps and started crying it was so soft and pretty.

My Wife is reading "Learn From a Great Teacher" to my oldest daughter.

in the past, i've tried reasoning with my wife concerning the reading of religious materials to our children but the reasoning is not getting through.

she believes that since my oldest daughter prefers church to the kingdom hall (no surprise) that in order to provide any kind of 'true' religious instruction she must read wt material geared to the kiddies.

in the past, i reasoned that if she insists on reading material to her that will ultimately trash my way of life then i could do the same.

Then you're very probably home free. Who do kids listen to in late primary school and their teens - their own age group or their parents

"You're gonna die if you don't come to the JW religion" has a pretty strong pull for anyone..teen or not. Even if they don't believe it , there is always a "What if" thought in their mind that may not go away! Doesn't matter if it is true or not!

It's like going to a fortune teller..you don't really believe and know it is mostly nonsense but ,you still hang on every word she says and "Wonder"..

I don't have any faith it ever happened either..nice publicity for the government that is in so much trouble tho isn't it?
Operations can do a wonderful job of making someone look like someone else and documents can be changed so DNA matches..there is no way I would ever believe he has been caught..heck, they can't even catch Fred McLean the JW child rapist, what makes you think they can catch Bin Laden..

it was a beautiful, sunny day.

i was in the supermarket doing an early morning shop when i see an old friend of the family, a jw sister.. she asked me if i'd gone to the memorial and i told her no.

she said that the end is so close what with all the earthquakes and brother truthseeker, you need to come back to jehovah otherwise you will die and so will your children.

Because I know this sister and she is a friend I didn't say anything. I did get an invite to the special talk. I've read about people here having conversations like this, and until today I didn't really give it much thought, but to be told you and your children will die if we don't serve the Watchtower God is deeply disturbing.

So?..the right answer would be "What a horrible thing to tell someone!!!! Is something wrong with you?"

You are a friend and yet it didn't bother her to tell you that you are going to die? Why do people think they have to take that kind of talk ..the JW's aren't made of porcelin, they won't break. Speak up and defend yourself. Tell them that there is seriously something wrong with someone that would tell another human being that..and she needs to reread her bible without the WTBTS telling her how to interpret it. They use scare tactics to keep their people in line ..just like any other cult! Tell it like it is..if someone can tell me something like that you better be sure they will hear something back! No one is telling me ( or my kids) something like that without a reaction, a strong one. They will think twice before throwing the "I love you and don't want to see you destroyed" plea on me! I hope your kids weren't in earshot of her beating up on you (with tears in her eyes ).they will take your silence to say that she was right...

The way I see it is that the JW's throw a bigger hissy fit and win the right to ruin their kids lives. Is that how it works?

There is no way I would ever ever let someone read any JW literature to my child. My kids read the "Paradise" book when they were young and to this day (they are in their 40's and 50's) and still have nightmares about the ground opening up and killing them. I should sue the Wtachtower society for that! Even one of the neighborhood girsl that often sat in on the studies has the nightmares..those books are NOT meant for children! If you allow it you are as guilty as she is of child endangerment and abuse!
It's a shame that your wife can control the situation because of her threats..where is your daddy spine?
It's too late for my kids but it's not too late for you to give your kids a normal life and free of all that horrible crap they peddle ..you will regret it if you don't. I feel you are just taking the easy way out. Giving in and hoping for a good outcome..it doesn't work that way.
