shakyground..yours is a typical response..the JW's are so good at brainwashing they can make you feel like you are the one with a problem..only after you are out for a long while can you even hope to return to some sort of normalcy..

Coming here and venting/questioning can really be benificial for those with family /friends still in the religion..the JW's can really do a number on you and coming here makes you realize it is all a brainwashing scheme..(many don't even realize they are being brainwashed). They also don't realize how very hateful and hurtful they are..

Then you have those that use it to deliberately hurt people..

That was what I used to tell my jw hubby and his mom before he died. They used to tell me that my hubby would get a new wife in the new system if I didn't come back..I told them that would be selfish reasons for going back and not right according to what they teach..( I liked to say "What they teach" because just because they say it doesn't make it "The Truth".)

More and more shunning going on?

is it just me or does it seem like there are more posts about shunning than usual?.

i take it that between the ex jw's and the internet the jw's are having a hard time holding on to their people.

of course they don't want their people anywhere around someone that might wise them up to what the jw's are doing to them..striving to keep them as isolated as possible.. if that isn't a cult i don't know what is.. i feel so sad for family member that are going throught this and unable to be with their loved ones because of some idiot religion that seems to appeal to some ..it must fulfill some need in their life.

I think I have only really been shunned one time that I can remember. That was when I was disassociated and hubby was not regular and the grown kids had all went their way..

JW Hubby's mom and dad were having a surprise anniversary party thrown for them by the people at their KH (they were both witnesses). Hubby's sister in NY decided that it was not a good idea for me to come and so consulted one of the brothers up there to go along with her decision. She called my hubby and uninvited me..said I may stumble someone if I come to the party..

My hubby and the grown kids and their families and non jw aunts and uncles and cousins would still be going..even tho they had studied for years before leaving the religion they were never baptised.

Since I had disassociated myself I would be the only one that would not be welcome.

What was funny was I had received a invitation with my name on it a few days earlier as it seems no one at their hall had any problem with me going as I knew many of them from working on my JW MIL's farm and helping them.

She was the only one that thought I may stumble someone..

I might add that my hubby and the kids all refused to go if I couldn't..which surprised me.

When we finally went up to his mom and dad's farm they asked why we didn't come..hubby told them. They just said 'Oh" and proceeded to tell us how nice it was and they had never had any kind of party like that before..then showed us some pictures and we went on about our business like it was no biggy..

But it left a big impression on me and I haven't talked to them since hubby passed away.

Talespin, I tried to approach her on the subject but she won't share with me..I do know she is into pain pills and has gambled on her lunch hour..and she does have vodka and 7 up almost if not everynight..so it could be anything. She does hold down a good job and makes very good money.. but the money goes somewhere besides on her biills..I tried to help her work out a budget but she doesn't want anyone to know what she does with her money. That way I figure she can suppport her addiction to whatever without anyone knowing....I cut her off because it was getting to be more and more each month..like she was seeing how much she could get..she always changed her stories of what she needed it for forgetting what she had told me before..

Matthew 5:9

I found this interesting because that wasn't the impression I had growing up a witness..
I did however know a witness lady that defied the witnesses and her alcoholic husband , whom the witnesses said she had to be submissive to when he beat her, became a security guard until she was required to have a gun..she ended up leaving the witnesses and getting a gun permit..got a job and left her pathetic wife beating alcoholic husband..found a new love and lived happily ever after..

Gotta love those peacemakers..

The point was that the Sheriff's association uses it to represent themselves as they are "Peacemakers"..This is one of their motto's on their site. I thought it cute because I couldn't see the JW bible putting anything in their bible that may indicate god would say the 'Peacemakers"..could possibly be 'children of god'..since they work for the Government..
