I was only 10 months old in July of 1969. I remember the international assembly of 1979, which was five(?) days. And seeing the program with the attendance for each day written in pen certainly takes me back. I can remember how awed we always were at the number of people who were in attendance, until sometime in the early 90s (restructuring of some circuits in our area led to much smaller conventions, I can remember Yankee Stadium looking very empty in 1995. Attendance in the low 20,000s felt so disappointing).

Glad to hear that she is home and beginning her recovery, Smiddy. Sadly, I have no advice on the exercise- I had the same issue with my mother and I never could get her to do them when she didn't want to.

New Light, New Light!
by BoogerMan inmore accurately known as a reversal of a long held 'truth.'.
september 2022 study watchtower - par.
14 p. 18 - "in the past, we understood jesus’ words to refer to the deeds the resurrected ones will practice after their resurrection; that is, some will come to life and practice good things while others will come to life and practice vile things.

I think the WTS always marched to its own beat. Russell had teachings that differed from mainstream Christianity, and Rutherford seemed to want to make that the norm. As if to show that JWs had THE truth, he made sure to deviate from as many mainstream positions as he could. When I was a JW, I was only aware that (1)JWs had the correct interpretation of scripture and (2)every other Christian denomination was wrong.
Once I was out, it became like the old saying: if everyone else disagrees with you, maybe the problem isn't with everyone else.

Diamondfrog: That’s Dijana in the reflection of the YouTube plaque.
It almost seems as if she's trapped inside of it.

Dagney: The argument was that they personally knew many people that were helped out of JW by LE's videos and if it wasn't for said videos, (the same ones I cannot stand to watch), these folks would still be in the cult.
I have trouble believing that. If you're spending enough time watching his content to convince you to leave the organization, then you already had a foot out the door. It's not as if he disguises the fact that he's a Watchtower critic and apostate. How many diehard JWs are seeing his videos in their 'suggested' feed? None.
I have no doubt that people have been helped by his videos. But this nonsense about how they'd still be in without them... no.

I wonder if he figured that he could talk about his depraved sexual hang-ups openly because he was blaming the WTS for it. Between his book and his confessional video, he gives the impression that he's been an unrepentant philanderer during their entire marriage (and a raging horndog long before). Did he really think that everyone who learned about this would just give him a pass?
It's just wild-- he seems so unperturbed by his own behavior that he openly admits to being an embarrassing example of a man, husband, and father. When wanking in the shower for stress relief and humping xmas trees are the examples of your normal behavior, maybe "professional YouTube activist" isn't the best career choice.

The belief is that those who survive Armageddon will be tested at the end of the thousand-year period, when Satan is let loose one last time. The devil will be allowed to tempt and turn those he can, then God will destroy all who still oppose Him and the matter will finally be settled.
So yeah, even if you are loyal enough to be saved, you get to spend the next thousand years wondering if you'll be good enough to survive the final test. I guess Yahweh needs a bit of entertainment from time to time. Scary guy.

That is an amazing list, carla. Goodness, I don't think I realized how bad the experience was until I saw it laid out like that.
And I hadn't heard the term "blinking light" used that way before, but it made me laugh out loud.

Thisismein1972: and he is genuinely remorseful
Honestly, he would not even need to be sincere. The standard PR tactic these days is to make a rote apology and ask for privacy, while revealing as little as possible of what transpired. Everyone would know that it was disingenuous, but without anything to go on, the issue would have slowly faded into the background. If anyone tried to bring it up, he would just cry persecution and his critics would appear to be obsessed over something that wasn't their business.
But he doesn't seem to be wired that way. He doesn't just want to survive, or even thrive. He needs validation, and he needs to destroy anyone who won't give it to him unconditionally. That is a crippling character flaw. I don't think he could have approached this any other way than the way he did, and continues to do. I think this is unfolding the only way it can, because he's a prisoner of his own ego.

Anyone else heard this?
by BoogerMan inthe other day, i chatted to an elderly woman and her daughter who was about 45-50. total strangers.. we were discussing covid when the daughter said, "my neighbor studies with jw's, and the jw's told her 3 months before the virus started, that they had to stop going from door to door because something was coming.".
i've never heard anything like this before - have you?.

JWs are always predicting that something big is just around the corner. They have been waiting for the great tribulation and/or Armageddon for more than a century. It would not be unusual for a JW to tell an interested person that they are waiting on something big that is about to happen. They still cling to "something big" that they "predicted" in 1914.
