This is what happened to Raymond Franz also, wasn't it? Between their work abroad and waiting for Paradise, they did not have children. There must be many JWs and exJWs in that boat. I never married or had kids myself, but I am not haunted by those decisions. Still, it is a reminder of just how large an impact (and not always for the better) the WTS has on the personal lives of so many people.

Sorry to hear it, Smiddy. Several years ago, my mother had a triple bypass and one of the medications they gave her made her paranoid and quite salty for around 36 hours. She was okay after that, though. I hope your wife recovers soon!

Phizzy: Jehoober OWNS the Universe, all of it, including this tiny, insignificant Blue Planet, therefore, how come he cannot simply direct Funds and Wealth to his chosen Org. ? He did it for King Solomon.
And Russell had made it clear in the early days of the WTS, that he felt that God was the source of the organization's funding. That if the money ever dried up, it was God's way of telling the organization that their work was done. The organization now has more money and wealth than he ever did, but they are the ones who keep asking for more.

Edit: Oh, it isn't new editions of it, it's translations into 13 new languages. Impressive, to be honest.

Fascinating Quotations of The Faithful Slave
by Vanderhoven7 indo you have any amazing quotations that have been produced by the faithful slave over the years?.
remember it's important that we should learn to love and value truth for it’s own sake; to respect and honor it by owning and acknowledging it wherever we find it and by whomever presented.
a truth presented by the faithful slave himself is just as true as a truth stated by god.. share some of those amazing quotations that have fascinated you.

My mother is still an active JW. She turned 85 back in May. Her mother was a JW, and two of her sisters are, as well as several of her nieces. My dad was in for a short period, but he did that mostly to try and hold the marriage together and it didn't work, so he left both the organization and the home back in the 80s. He passed away in 2001. One of his sisters is still a JW, as far as I know. She would be in her 80s as well. I doubt her sons are still JWs, they did not seem like the type to stay, heh.
My sisters and I are all out, we either left or faded over a long period of time. My older sister was a regular pioneer for a few years before she left (I later learned that she pioneered on the advice of some elders to deal with some issue she was having- it didn't work). I was a ministerial servant for about a year in the mid-90s. It felt like the culmination of a lot of hard work to get there, but by then my heart really wasn't in it and I lost that 'privilege' and that accelerated my fade (though I would never have thought I was fading at the time).

I can remember that my mother was concerned about my interest in computers and IT, and did not approve of my taking advantage of an opportunity at my job (where I was a mail clerk- standard JW career track) to start building a network and become an IT admin.
She stopped complaining when my pay increased by some 50% in just 18 months, and more than doubled over the next few years. Funny, that-- once we stopped struggling and had some level of financial security, she wasn't so concerned about it.

Roe vs Wade Overturned by US Supreme Court!
by Simon ini know there was a leak a few weeks back, but this really does seem to have come out of the blue.. the anomaly was the original decision.
it clearly had no basis in law or the constitution, and was a flimsy, ridiculous ruling.
plus the whole thing was based on a fraudulent case in the first place.. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-61928898.

I think Harris was making the point that, if abortion is such an evil in God's eyes, He is acting in direct opposition to that belief by making it happen naturally. If you're an atheist, the argument is meaningless, since the high rate of natural miscarriages is just an outcome of the evolutionary process.

Ex-Elder Joe Talks to JW's "Babies enemies of God"

That's true, the belief is that we are born imperfect and tainted with sin, unable to lead perfect lives. The impression I get is that we are born with a share of the guilt for Adam and Eve's original sin, and are therefore hell-bound from birth. What I wonder is- how does the infant achieve atonement? Is it granted in recognition of its inability to feel remorse and seek forgiveness yet? If the infant dies before it can reason, is it damned?

Researching published JW content is now hindered
by neat blue dog inthe recent topic by comingoutamycage about the amount of words published by jws decreasing reminded me:.
jws are now publishing more video content than printed content.
all the printed content up until now has either officially or unofficially been made available in digital format with the ability to search for keywords, which removed a layer of control and allows us to instantly find any references to, say, 1975 or "this generation".

The declines could be due to price changes in the materials they used to print books, or a change in policy regarding how long to make them. It would not surprise me if they just allowed certain writers (Rutherford and Franz come to mind) to write as much as they wanted and publish whatever they wrote. As more writers started to work on books and needed guidance, they would probably have come up with a set of rules, including how long to make any books (which would also make it easier to get the presses set up and any other machines configured).
I like the thought that Franz was so humiliated by the 1975 failure that he lost a bit of the will to keep writing. But a guy in his position would have had an ego the size of the Sun. I doubt it bothered him to be so spectacularly wrong- he probably blamed Jehovah for welshing on a promise.
