when i was a senior in high school, the principal called me in to her office to ask why i'd missed repeated deadlines to turn in my applications for colleges.

i went to a school for brainiacs, and was above average there--yes, i was a geek among geeks.

the principal asked me if it were a question of finances.

i became associated in 1953 - the congregation where i came in the truth had never had much increase so i was welcomed and encouraged...yes, the older men (no elder arrrangement then) promised, promised -- i can still hear norm clifton telling me - armageddon will be here within 5 years. you will not grow old in this system. SO LIKE SO MANY OTHERS -- I THOUGHT LABOURING JOBS WILL BE OKIE FOR THAT TIME. Don't waste time on school was the mantra

well, norm is long dead... his son became a missionary and is now old in turn ...

indeed all things continue as they were from the beginning.... and these promises have turned into castles in the sand, washed away by the next tide..

if you are still associating with jws, or considering studying with them.... i have just one word of advice --- GO AND GET A REAL LIFE SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! GO TO UNIVERSITY - TRAIN YOUR MIND...IT'S A WONDERFUL THING... YOUR LIFE WILL BE BETTER FOR IT.

Last night's bookstudy / Questions about 1919

last night's bookstudy again focused on the date of 1919 and how it was proof that god's favor was directed towards the bible students.

this week the wts compared themselves to the jews when they were released from babylon.

basically they talked about how the jews were discplined by jehovah when babylon destroyed jerusalem and took them hostage.

of course were all so familiar with the way the society covers up it tracks and it has taken a lot of work to expose its coruption.. but are there more sinister discoveries awaiting?.

why is the society so keen to cover up peadophilia in the organisation?.

does it reach higher than we are presently aware?.

Things I'm looking forward to once I leave

for the first time in a long time i actually have something to look forward to.

knowing that i no longer will be under the constraints of a oppresive religion has done a lot for me.

hey! i'm a lot older than you (i think), but still got in one year (certificate course) of full time study... the mental pleasure was enormous.. (found out i should have been an academic)

and in 3 1/2 years i want to start a degree course, will not be much use to me work wise, but i want to do it!!!! and maybe do a masters... (stop me getting alzeimers!!!)

the brooding, dark grey walls of the "new jerusalem" , shut out the view of so many things..

Which came first, man or woman?

if men were created in the image of god , and women created for men , then why do all foetuses start off female?.

according to the bible eve was created out of adam.. well i can't speak for adam but the basic body structure of a human it seams starts off as female , men branching off at a certain point of developement due to man making hormones.it doen't get rid of our nipples though.. if men came first or are in some way superior in gods eyes then why the need to develope as a female first , shouldn't it be the other way round?.

so shouldn't have god made eve first?

Freedom of speech and JW's (of course)

western lands pride themselves in allowing freedom of speech.. it has benefits and drawbacks.. it means that people can be exposed to ideas that are beneficial and true , also ones that are harmful and false.. for example freedom of speech allows corruption to be revealed by the press and for people to speak out against harsh regimes.. but also allows religious lies and falsehoods along with racism to be spread.. when people lack the necessary reasoning skills or are unduly effected by a certain upbringing and background freedom of speech allows people to be taken in by and to spread harmful ideas.. a good education along with a well balanced upbringing allows people to develop good reasoning and thinking ability that can ultimately improve the way their country is run and to create better lives for the majority.. when we see a lack of education , impoverished backgrounds and bad parenting this often leads those effected down the wrong path in life , though many have managed to fight their way out.. most crime is committed in deprived areas and amongst the people who live in them, where it is also obvious that children haven't the best opportunities in life.. this can lead to them thinking in a way that is different to others of a different background and they may see crime for example ,as the only way out.. the point being that background and education can have large effect on us as people.. so along with freedom of speech we have people from many varied backgrounds , this will alter what they see as a just and fair world to them.. as long as we want the right to choose what we can say and practise we must allow others to do so , even if we don't agree and really believe are wrong.. free access to a good education and upbringing can help people avoid being taken in by flawed reasoning and its results.

the key to a better world is to improve the people.. this can be done and people can be helped to avoid making big errors of judgment (such as becoming a jehovahs witness) if we can improve the lives of people in general.. better education ,elimination of poverty along with other related factors will surly help change the way many people think.

every tightly controlled (totalitiarian) organisation is, and knwledge brings them all undone..

the chinese communist party once had a high percentage of 'idealists', but after victory over the corrupt (and more 'christian) koumintang in 1949, took the same wrong turning as the GB is taking..

to keep control in a land that had only known chaos the CCP, cracked down on dissent. they were able to control the flow of information for a long time, but in the end modern communication beat them.

by the time of tiananmen square, many people had fax machines, and overseas contacts and friends - through these, most of china had some knowledge of the real facts...

the party had no option, but to allow more freedom, (in spite of the reactionary crackdown in tiananmen square).

today, faced with being wrong about 1975 and the 'generation' issue, the GB is doing precisely the same as the communists, the nazi's and sundry religious organisations ... censoring information, controlling the flow of information.

but, in the end the free flow of information will beat them also!!!!!

even when you have an organisation built of people on the low side of average intelligence, the flow of information will seep through.

THEY HAVE ALREADY LOST THE BATTLE FOR TRUTH!!!!

its sad, as a spiritual organisation they could have been different.

Can A Witness Eat Organically Grown Food?

i wonder if jws are aware that organic food is grown in soil that is improved by enriching the soil with manure, fish-meal and dried blood?

it gets to be like the talmud..

eg - you cannot use dried blood in your garden....

but, (i think we can infer) if blood is poured out on the ground, and vegetables grow in it, you can then eat that vegetable, because it was "accidental"...

so, it always is, when you become legalistic..!!!

i am new to this forum, but i have been lurking for a while.

you all seem pretty friendly, i hope you will be nice to me even though i am still a jehovah's witness.

i wonder if you all have heard about the new arrangement for putting in field service reports.

THE RESULT OF ALL THIS - so we have an organisation that is built up on formalism & legalism...

not an organisation where love of god, and love of neighbour is the motivating force.

showing an increase for the year - measuring results in the way a business measures the result is the goal. and the result is people doing things for the wrong reason.

growth in love for god and neighbour will also result in increase, an increase that i would once have believed to more pleasing to the god they claim to worship.

how can god be pleased when someone reports time, because the study conductoer asked the person for a report.

i argued these points once as an elder, and was told we are dealing with imperfect creatures, so hold my tongue.

i now see that we were dealing with an imperfect organisation!!!!!
