Isn't this what most western and Abrahamic religions claim? JW's are hardly alone in thinking they are the only ones approved.

wow
by Theredeemer init has been a long time since i have posted here, so, here it goes.
i have been back and forth for the last two years on whether or not to stay in this religion or not.
most of me wanted to stay for the same as many others, fear.

I actually kind of agree with Moshe. Not a good starting point for you guys.
Either way, try to tread carefully and not blow yourself up. Martyrs don't work in this religion. If not one can ever talk to you, than you will lose possible influence over them when they may seek it or even need it.
Try to think with your head and not go for instant gratification that comes with telling everyone off.

My mother passed away this morning...
by Tatiana infor any old-school ex-jws here that remember my many posts about my abusive jw mother and my sister committing suicide because of it...she passed away this morning because she began to bleed out and refused a transfusion.
she had been in the hospital for a month.
it appears she suffered a stroke and wasn't found by the brothers & sisters for three days (they missed her at the meetings).

I used to have a year pass and go their with my girlfriend all the time. The parks are very large, strollers are a must, as is patience. It is sunny but chilly. So bring a jacket for the AM and the PM. Go eat at the restaurant in the pirates of the Carribean. Its pretty fantastic and has a nice vibe.
The beach I would recommend around the area would be Huntington Beach. Newport is ok too, but Huntington is more old school Cali. Might be a little cold there too depending on the day.
Enjoy.

What's so Special About FREE Home Bible Studies?
by Ethos incontinuation of this thread: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/beliefs/242543/2/free-home-bible-study.
newyorker: the familiar observation that the bible is the best-selling book of all time obscures a more startling fact: the bible is the best-selling book of the year, every year.
calculating how many bibles are sold in the united states is a virtually impossible task, but a conservative estimate is that in 2005 americans purchased some twenty-five million biblestwice as many as the most recent harry potter book.

@ Ethos - Hey bud, I understand your point here. I don't think it was anyones assertion that bible sales are not a serious money making endeavor. I mean your post illustrates that very well.
The point of the first post is that JW's are not the only ones that offer FREE bible studies. Most people in fact, already have some kind of bible in their home who may be interested in a study. We just usually switch them over to the NWT for ease of use and continuity with the publications right?
It is absolutely 100% true that JW's are not super unique in their offer of FREE bible studies. Many other faiths, groups, missions, ministries, for goodness sake even the Catholic church.....offer free materials if they are asked for. Many of those same groups offer bible studies. The format and content is the thing that is different, not what is being offered.

I am confussed. Am I the only one?
I love Norway. Bergen and the fijords are hard to get out of your mind. But I am pretty confusd by this outcome. Maybe good ol fashioned apostacy just doesn't make its way up there very often so it catches them off guard?

FREE Home Bible Study?!?!?
by Christ Alone inso i finally took a deep breath and watched the annual meeting report.
i found a little nugget before the "new light" discussion began.
there was a report about the "public preaching" that was taking place in manhattan.

Can we start a petition to allow Ethos 100 posts a day? I have a huge allowance, I would be willing to share. I never was restricted to begin with.
Ethos, just because beople BUY bibles, doesn't mean they HAVE TO buy bibles. Anyone who wants a study, can easily be given one by pretty much any church. That is the plain truth. Of course on-line there are so many resources that if you really wanted lexicons, bible commentaries, and the like....they are right there.
But lets not pretend that a home bible study traditionally given by us uses most of those things if any of them. Of course, in defence of that, the majority of people probably do benefit from simple instruction.

WT elders school: The elders in our circuit appear to be "trained" quite well
by sir82 inmore ramblings from the recently concluded elders' school.. see the op on this thread for background: http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/242491/5/wt-elders-school-the-wts-has-progressed-from-just-plain-stupid-to-dangerously-stupid.
in part of the video mentioned above showing the "goofus" elder trying to handle the situation with the crying sister:.
the "goofus" elder went into the kingdom hall library alone with the sister when she left the auditorium.. you could hear literal, audible, gasps from the 100 or so elders watching the video.. a few moments later, as the sister was crying, "goofus" put out his hand and touched the sister's hand.. again, literal, loud, audible gasps from the audience.. they darkened the room while the video was playing so i couldn't see him, but i have to imagine the co was quite pleased that the audience grasped the "mistakes" that elder goofus was making.. .

WT Elders school: Avoid black and white thinking - now look at this zebra
by sir82 incontinuing on with my haphazard review of the recent one-day elders school..... in one of the introductory talks, the co was making the point that we can't view things merely from a black and white perspective.
many issues have "shades of gray" and we need to use discernment in such situations.. and i'm thinking "finally!
maybe he will continue on to make an actual, reasonable point!".

I have a question.
I thought the WTBTS was softenign their stance on disfellowshipping. This is what I have been hearing left and right. I have heard far few being announced, or happening in my area. And I am ina pretty densely populated area of California people.
So would this reflect a departure from that trend? It would be interesting to think that tightening the reigns would I suppose leave you with only the most loyal adherants, although maybe less than you would have like to have had.
Its a thought I never entertained before when considering colsolidation of power such as the new light suggests is the direction they continue to go.
