  amnong the jws that post here, i do find you more rational and honest to exchange thoughts ... but, your last comment to billy made me a little curious:.

I choose to post because the name of the forum is deceaving. It says that it is a "Forum for JW's". This is a false statement and that's how I came here in the first place. If I made it here, other Witnesses might be lurking around. I post for their purpose, so that along with all the accusations, some lies, some slanders, they can also read the view of a current witness.

  In all honesty, yes, I was happy as a JW. In fact, I was very happy. I had a blast pretty much the entire time. I excelled in the congregation, I loved Bethel, I enjoyed being an elder, I found service fun, and I had some good friends in the congregation.

  When I left, it was out of principle, not because I couldn't hack it, or didn't like it, or was made miserable by someone. I left behind a great life, and found a new great life.

  Let some JW apologist deal with THAT.

  The legality depends on New York State law. Some states allow a person to tape their phone calls without informing the other party. Other states do not. I'm not sure on which side New York falls, but I have no doubt Legal has already worked it out.

  Sex before marriage and contraception.

  i am not a jw, but my future husband is.

  we don't broach the subject much of religion, as it only causes arguments, as we see things differently.

  i would like to know the jw views on sex before marriage, and contraception.

  The JW view on sex before marriage is that it is forbidden. Doesn't mean it never happens, but when it does the JW is breaking the rules and if they get caught they will be disfellowshipped in all likelihood.

  who would you trust

  taking the watchtower society out of the equation.. who would you trust more based on your history with them, the witnesses you have known throughout your life or the people you have interacted with here on this board?.

  i wish people nothing but peace, but i certainly hope people have another source of peace and support in their life than this group of people offers.

  joel, I realize you have had some discouraging experiences here recently and that is making you a little down on this board. I've been there, done that years ago on H2O. Then I moved on and learned which threads to avoid just to keep my emotional sanity. It works.

  As to your question, I have some JW friends I would trust to a large degree, but not completely since their first loyalty would be to the organization no matter what. On this site, however, I have made friends that I could trust my life to without any qualms whatsoever. I also have some non-JW friends I feel this way about.

  So despite the fighting that goes on here, those of us who are not fighting are making some friendships that are stronger than anything possible among JWs who have their loyalties conflicted and co-opted.

  JW's And Risque Mnemonics.

  do folk in the united states use mnemonics as we do here in the uk?.

  just in case youre wondering, a mnemonic is a method by which it becomes easy to remember something, especially if it involves a table or sequence.

  most uk mnemonics have a vulgar or sexual connotation, so their use is somewhat frowned upon in jw circles.. when number 2 son was studying geology, it was essential that he remembered the hardness order of various minerals.

  One year tomorrow

  i have been disfellowshipped for one year tomorrow.

  i have been alone through out this time and completely lost.

  recently i decided to look up jw sites on the internet and found a moving story of a lady who had been through a similar experience to mine.

  Free literature?

  i haven't been over here for a long time, looks pretty busy.. i am in a discussion on another board about the "donation" arrangement.

  the jw's claim "all" literature is free, and nobody id pressured into "donating" for what they take from the hall.. now in my old congregation that wasn't so.

  we were reminded all the time about "donations" and making sure we asked for donations in the field service.

  Your experience is not only typical, it is institutionalized. With the donation arrangement in place to avoid taxes, the Society wants the JW to contribute when they pick up the literature, and then if the household gives money to send that as well. Theoretically, the Society should be getting close to twice the old amount. In practice, the contributions dried up. Realizing the friends were taking advantage of this situation to load up on freebies, the Society began charging congregations for the cost of literature, having the elders send in a regular "contribution" to help the "worldwide work."

  "Free" or not, one way or another the Society is getting that money!
