  Who Is An Apostate?

  maybe you've heard the story of a brother in the watchtower's writing department who was very smart, hard working and a good writer.

  we'll call him charley.

  charley was so good, in fact, that he advanced through the ranks and became a co-editor of the watchtower magazine.

  According to the Oxford English Dictionary an Apostate is "a person who renounces a religious or political belief or principle." (Interestingly, the word is derived from the Greek apostatēs, which was a term used to designate a runaway slave.)

  The fact is that any JW who wasn't born into a Jehovah's Witness family, and who practiced a different faith before their conversation, is now an apostate by definition! My mother was raised a Methodist, not a JW. Thus, the moment she decided to abandon her childhood faith and get baptized, she became an apostate. There are so many JWs with similar backgrounds and any JW who calls you an apostate should be reminded of this fact. In fact, an apostate who criticizes others for being apostates is also a hypocrite and we all know how Jesus felt about hypocrisy.

  Yes, his hypocrisy is disgusting. If it were me I would eagerly confess to my crimes against children, but without the slightest hint of remorse in my voice. I'd tell them, frankly, that there is nothing in the Bible that condemns pedophilia and, in fact, the church has been practicing it for nearly all 2000 years of its history. I would insist that, as a member of the clergy, I am immune to both civil and criminal prosecution per the concordat held between many nations and the church; furthermore, as a citizen of the Vatican, I cannot be extradited on these charges since the Vatican has no extradition treaty with Australia. I would then conclude by telling the Aussies to go fuck a wallaby.

  Back when I was about 11 years old my best friend's big sister was tried and DFed for 'kidnapping' after she drove some JW kids to an amusement park without their parent's permission (I don't know where they thought their kids were going). She was so angry that she didn't even apologize or try to get reinstated. Her side of it was that she thought the parents knew and just wanted to do those kids a good turn. For many years I admired that woman, even though I barely knew her. Sadly, she has recently rejoined the flock. I guess it's nice that she and her sis can be buddies again, but I was hoping she would keep it up, since she was the only member of that family to ever leave. Did I mention that she was an elder's daughter?

  What made you stay "in" even when you knew it wasn't the "truth"?

  so i've been thinking a lot about why i stayed a jw for so long even though i had always had doubts about the doctrines.

  i was born into the religion, left and came back as an adult for another decade.

  some of the things that come to mind (besides the threat of shunning-and this isn't to minimize that very real threat) was:.

  I have tried to mingle and find friendships outside of the JW sphere, but it's been totally uncomfortable and even disastrous at times.

  I've had the same problem. Most younger people these days are addicts of one type or another. Worldly 'parties' typically consist of binge drinking and music that is so loud it makes conversation impossible. The majority of young people today are boorish and stupid for a number of reasons: They are suffering from various degrees of brain damage from drug abuse. Most of them were forced to attend shitty public schools that groomed them to despise learning and knowledge. Also, they have to work much harder than previous generations just to pay rent and, due to youthful sex hormones, what little leisure time they have left is spent chasing ass or raising their misbegotten progeny.

  What I finally had to do was stop associating with people my own age and focus on the older generation. Most of my acquaintances are over 60 and I find I have a fairly good rapport with them in spite of the age gap. They've not only acquired a lifetime of knowledge and experience, but since their reproductive and working years are over, they now have plenty of time to think and learn.

  Since older people don't sleep for very long (pituitary gland shrinks and produces less melatonin as you age) the best time to socialize with them is early in the morning; not too long after dawn. Go into any diner, coffee shop or even McDonald's at that time of day and you'll find plenty of potential friends to choose from. Since they are generally ignored by the younger generations, most of them will be very open to starting a conversation, even with a total stranger. If you persist, you might even get invited to some of their parties.

  A clean shaven white man with grey hair, eyebrows that were so bushy you couldn't tell whether his eyes were open or closed. He wore a powder blue-grey suit and never smiled. Instead of sitting on a golden throne in heaven, he preferred to look down on us from orbit, much like Superman does in his Fortress of Solitude, except that he wasn't there to protect you, rather he was looking for opportunities to smite you for the smallest of infractions.

  If anyone wants to see how natural male dominance is, all they have to do is observe any playground scene. Who do you see calling the shots, girls or the boys? Which sex is more aggressive? Of course, socialization changes all that and a few years later most of those intrepid, ball-busting little girls will be looking down demurely at their pretty new white shoes, praying that the boy she pulled around by the hair in elementary school will be man enough to ask her out (Yuck!).

  Men keep women down because we all know, instinctively, who the dominant sex is and they (not me) are terrified of what could happen if women ever figured it out. Fortunately for patriarchy, most new wave feminists love to play victim; which ensures they will never, ever get a chance to exercise power over any but the the most weak-willed, guilt-ridden middle class white males.

  I know this is futile, but I feel compelled to say it anyways: Ladies, stop frelling around! You are not weaker than men. You are not even equal to us. Frell equality! Men don't want to be your equals. You either dominate us or we will dominate you; and if you let us dominate you, we will not only fulfill your deepest wishes to be a slave, we will humiliate you and treat you with the utmost disdain because we know you could have pawned us, but chose not too! A weakling who surrenders to a superior force is smart because all he is really doing is living to fight another day; but to be strong and surrender anyways because you don't know your own strength is stupid and contemptible.

  That's an awesome idea and if I get the chance, I will do it. I certainly have the technical skills and I am uncannily good at going about unnoticed.

  My mom confessed to me when I shared my doubts with her that she left for about a year in the late seventies, but she didn't specify why; only said that she had doubts as well. When I learned about the '75 fiasco it was the proverbial light bulb going off in my brain. Before then I had always assumed that she had been stumbled by some other witness, but now I know that she knows the GB is fallible.. and chose to come crawling back to them anyways. The strange thing is that I don't think she did it over shunning; she really seems to believe the WT theology even though she knows they were wrong.

  for example, i once had a sister tell me i was gambling because i liked playing skill crane (the machine where you have to try to pick up prizes like stuffed animals) at the arcade.

  Aren't you begging the question here? You're assuming rape and incest are wrong. But if Jehovah is the arbiter of what is moral and immoral, how could any act, no matter how much it might repulse you, be intrinsically wrong? Morality is relative... to Jehovah's absolute fiats.
