Cart Witnesses Today - I am not impressed
by pale.emperor injust approached a cart then with two jw girls holding out mags.
they continued chatting to each other about car insurance when i took the watchtower from one of their hands.. ok, so it looks like i'll have to get the ball rolling.
i asked if they were jehovahs witness.

I was one of those witnesses that HAD to know it all inside out. I studied like a fiend for pleasure even in my school years. I was by no means the golden boy of the KH, i just found the theology and bible history fascinating. 1914 always presented a problem to me though. Even when i believed it i strongly believed that we shouldn't be trying to work out dates from the bible. But if asked by someone (which almost never happened) i was able to explain it, but i knew how ridiculous it sounded as i was saying it.
So it's frustrating to me now that im out that the next generation of JWs have absolutely no clue of the deeper things the bible talks of, the deeper things of the torah, the gammatria, the greek words etc. I feel like an old timer looking at the youth of today in despair and im only 32!I so relate to this. Me too!

Unbelievable isn't it? How lazy the preaching work has become. There is a virtually permanent cart set up outside my office in the city where I work because I am in the heart of the CBD. I don't try and talk to them because all the ones who man the cart know me (I was a speaker at circuit and district level so everyone in the city knows me) But I NEVER see them talking to anyone except fellow brothers who happen to pass by. 99% of the time they just sit there talking among themselves or looking totally bored playing on their phones.
I compare them to the numerous charity workers all around them that also work in the CBD. Now I'm not a big fan of paid charity collectors and they become really annoying when you work in the city and have them approach you every day, but at least they are actually working unlike the witnesses who are just keeping seats warm. They are actively engaging with the community. And they work really hard. They are on their feet all day approaching people from the early morning till I leave the office, they are still going. Wheras the brothers come and go for their little one or two hour shifts...

The Society loves to try and prove that they are not a cult by setting up a straw man argument - i.e. picking their own selective definition of what a cult is or what defines a cult and then arguing against those points. This is a good rebuttal to that.

However I found it to to be a well reasoned piece with a good and accurate knowledge of how the Society operates and how the doctrines work. I thought it well demonstrated how they support the hypothesis that the Societies ways fit the definitions of cult as defined by the psychologist cited.

What does it take to qualify for cart/trolley work?
by Londo111 inif memory serves me, when it was first introduced elders had to fill out a form to grade a jw, and only those who made the grade could do the carts.. i didn’t realize until sir82 said something on another discussion that the process had changed.. what is the process nowadays?

And then there was the whole insurance issue which was one of the things that started to wake me up. The fact that the Society wanted to distance itself legally from the carts and wanted the brothers to have their own private insurance. And wanted the brothers to say they were doing the work of their now initiative if they got into any legal troubles, that they were not instructed by the Society in any way, which was an outright lie as per my above comments...

Just before I left it was becoming so micromanaged. The CO was coming with instructions form head office on exactly hows to lay the carts out, which books/tracts to put where, how to line them all up. How to place two carts next to each other in the right configuration etc etc.. I was thinking next we will have point of sale marketing experts coming in to advise us....

Spiritual Junk Food?
by stuckinarut2 inwe all know how the society likes to say that they alone "dispense spiritual food from jehovah" through the f&ds / gb.
the claim was that from russell's day, the society alone is gods channel.... so that got me thinking.... if they dispense spiritual food, yes spiritual nourishment to all witnesses, that clearly implies that all the past wrong teachings, and incorrect doctrines and practices must not have been "nourishing spiritual food" right?.
in effect, they were just like parents that order a fast food drive through "meal" to keep the kids happy and fill the hole in their tummy.. yes, rather than providing a well prepared and healthy nourishing meal, a quick-fix junk food fill was sufficient.

Absolutely right stuck and good point JakeM2012 - junk food and rotton food indeed,
Just read almost any issue of Consolation/Awake from the 20's and it is full of pseudoscience, junk psychology and religion indoctrination masquerading as scholarship etc.
But at least in those days you used to get served a full meal, even if it was rotten. Now you get served little canapés of junk food. Have you seen the size of the magazines lately? And the word count of the articles within? Thats if you can find any words in between the charts and pretty pictures.
Then there was this gem from the latest broadcast: "if a picture paints a thousand words then a video must paint a million!" - that is why we are feeding you so much video content now. You don't even have to chew (or think) anymore, just open your mouth and we'll squirt the information down your throat.
