Geez!!! I think I need to get a new pair of glasses....
I thought Hippikon's post read:
"But seriously the most destructive thing anyone can do to the board is introduce paranoia and finger painting!"

One of the posters on that board wrote:
"Oh, we have had this conversation in service before.. I have always said that I would like to see some of the great castles and fortresses in Europe and England. The history in those places (not to mention the books and movies they inspired) are so well known to us in America, that it would be nice to see where they took place."
What a pathetic world the JW's envision in which to spend eternity! The loss of such rich history; no museums, no points of historical interest... all destroyed in the name of "perfection". And what's worse? To be condemned to spend eternity with the likes of the people I left behind still staring blankly into their Watchtowers. I do not consider that Paradise.... I consider that Hell !! -

So, Waiting, are you telling me that if the species in question managed to survive their own Armageddon and came out the other side in a lion-petting paradise, that while they were enjoying their own eternal bliss, they might still come to our planet and slaughter all of our lions so we don't get the chance to pet them ourselves? Hmmmmm.... interesting point of view. Can't say I totally disagree. If indeed they have advanced their civilization to the status of perfection, they might make other worlds uncomfortable just to break the monotony and boredom, eh?

A bedtime story for your children
by philo inpooh and piglet go preaching in the hundred-acre wood.. pooh and piglet were doing return-visits in the hundred-acre wood and wondering about things generally, especially pooh, who had forgotten his bible.. "i think i should try some more anointing, piglet," he said uncertainly.
everyone in the wood seemed to be not-at-home, and he was becoming a little low.. "yes please, pooh, please do," said piglet jumping up and down, "an oinking is always fun.
could i be the oin king for a change?".

"Not of Our Sort" Part I
by TMS ini am an old man.. this is a topic i have been comtemplating for some time as i continue in this transitional time of my life, reminiscing about my 50+ years with what some of you call the "borg", but i simply refer to as jehovah's witnesses.. good people i have known who loved god, but did not fit into the organizational scheme of things is the topic.
there will be at least three parts a la amazing.
this topic will sink out of sight like a rock, but it is therapeutic to write it and the contemplation brings a smile to my face.. my first subject is b.w.. b.w.

If I may quote David Bowie from one of his songs on his Space Oddity album:
"We had a friend, a talking man
who spoke of many powers he had.
Not of the best of friends, but ours.
We used him. We let him use his powers.
We let him fill our needs. Now we are strong."The hair is standing up on the back of my neck as I type this....

Point well taken regarding my writing style, Bill. Perhaps I was a bit too "Watchtowerish". (Gee, maybe I should audition my writing talents to the "Faithful & Discreet Slave....hmmmmm???)
Anyway, I follow your logic, but respectfully disagree with it. Yes, while the Nazis did have some remarkable technological advances, I believe that any species which is so far advanced in their technology would by default have to be peaceful and benevolent. Why? Simply because otherwise they would have annihilated themselves first. -

"Personally, I think there's a good chance that we share the galaxy with others. But maybe not many, the count could be in the single digits. If there were many of them, some would be here by now."
I have no doubt that not only do many other civilizations exist throughout the universe, but that we in fact have been "visited" repeatedly. If any species is technologically advanced enough to travel vast distances faster than the light barrier (or interdimensionally), then they would unquestionably have the common sense to observe the inhabitants of a world they are studying before making an introduction. Planet Earth and it's human inhabitants are still in the stage of development where we believe:
* We are kings of the universe.
* We keep the peace by waging war.
* We have the power to destroy our own world.
* We still expect God to destroy the world (Armageddon).
* If we don't understand it, we condemn it and/or kill it.
Any advanced society would no doubt want to watch us with great scrutiny from a distance, perhaps ensuring that we do not cause our own self-destruction in ways we cannot comprehend, but don't expect any of these UFO's to land on Main Street any time soon, with the Little Green Men approaching us saying "Take me to your leader".
