Did we ever fulfill Mathew 24:14?
by raymond frantz ini know ... many mistakes and a nasty leadership ,but did jehovah's witnesses fulfill even partially matthew 24:14 :"the good news will be preached in all the inhabited earth and then the end will come "are we to expect a final or a completely different fulfilment of this verse ?

Do you have friends/family still in the organization waiting for a big "cleansing" to occur?
by Pyramid Scheme ini have had some great conversations with friends and family lately who are still in the organization.. when i explain my feelings and beliefs, and discuss a number of the scandals surrouding the wt, they agree with me 100% - even expressing some things i didn't expect them to say as far as doctrine and teachings.
in other words, they can see the obvious problems and want them to change.
all of them little trust in the leadership, and have expressed disgust with several elders in the congregations they attend.

What I have found from the JWs I know of who are still in is that yes they are 'waiting on Jehovah' but it is killing them. They are all so sick with terrible health problems, alcoholism and mental breakdowns. They all seem old before their time. People in their late fifties or early sixties seem like very old people, crippled with ill-heath. They may say they are leaving it up to Jehovah consciously but their unconscoius minds know the truth and are making their bodies so ill.

I find the video and song encouraging children to pray any time, anywhere absolutely chilling Nebeska. Here we have a religion full of dysfunctional adults being encouraged to raise their children to talk in their heads to invisible people all day long. Mental illness waiting to happen. Poor kids!

What Gilead Taught ME
by AllTimeJeff inthey mean the leadership.
all of this is code for: one who is not ready to really study and accept how the leadership of jehovah's witnesses use the bible to their own self serving means.
but to be fair, jw's teach that most all of these characters refer to the leadership of jehovah's witnesses, the governing body.

It's a very difficult thing to leave. Because you don't really know about the lie of it all till you climb their company ladder. They store all their rot in the penthouse. (If you follow my meaning) - AllTimeJeff
Thank for this thread Jeff. I understand what you mean. I pioneered, my brother went to Bethel in the UK and my husband was an elder. My husband and I left because we 'climbed the company ladder' and found out what was really going on. My brother, after leaving Bethel, has been an elder for over twenty years now and if he can't bring himself to leave now I don't think he ever will. I am sure he knows exactly what is going on. On his own head be it.
I'm glad life is going well for you. Thanks for letting people know what it is really like in that religion. How appalling to indoctrinate people in developing counties when what they really need is help to dig wells, grow food and educate themselves and their children.

by ÁrbolesdeArabia inevery soldier entering the war zone leaves behind a little piece of themself.
the gulf war is estimated to cost the v.a.

A question on "The Life of PI" movie Warning :if you havent seen it .Don`t read
by smiddy inthis is a question for those who have seen the movie , without disclosing too much in case some inadvertantly see this thread ,does pi represent god ?
other souls represent someone else ,was that also the case with pi ?
i`m going to watch this movie again as i think a second veiwing is in order .. it was impossible not to veiw this bengal tiger as the real thing ,look at the well fed animal at the beginning and the half starved animal in the end .. i thought it was extremely well done visually and if i can say so intellectually .. i welcome your comments on this movie ,.

I enjoyed it. I found it very Indian in character. The adult Pi was very interesting with that fatalistic view that is common to that part of the world. He lost all of his family, whether they drowned or were eaten by the tiger we were left to decide for ourselves.
But the adult Pi who seemed at first a solitary, lonely figure suddenly had - as he put it , 'a wife, a cat and two children'. I don't know about Pi representing god I didn't pick that up, Smiddy.
It seemed to be saying, life can be tragic, but life goes on. How we view the past depends on the story we tell ourselves of what happened. I totally get that having had a lot of tragedy in the last five years. You can either say poor me or look at what you have now, everything is down the the way we tell ourselves the story in our own head.

How Long has it Been since you Last Attended Meetings and What Caused...
by flipper in..... you to stop attending ?

I last attended a meeting 24 years ago Flipper.
So many reasons it's hard to know where to start.
Very briefly, I pioneered for 10 years from age 16 and in my early twenties I told the Circuit Overseer I was tired and ill all the time and wanted to stop. He got his wife to work with me in field service and she said 'I'm tired, my husband's tired, we're all tired but we just have to keep going'. So I did.
A few years later when I became seriously depressed I told an elder who was a friend. My husband was an elder at the time. This elder friend got his wife to work with me in field service and she told me that people who get depressed and throw themselves in front of trains are terrible people because the train driver never recovers!
My husband could only stand four years as an elder because he thought they would be discussing helping the brother's at elders meetings and arranging shepherding calls! We were so naive. All the elders did was fight among themselves and vie for power and prestige.
One day we were so in pieces we prayed to Jehovah to tell us what was going on in his organization and then we went to the library. We found Crisis of Conscience. We read it through and were totally shocked. We disassociated ourselves a few weeks later.
