Need help understanding the Overlapping Generation teaching

so this is a topic that seriously boggles my mind and please correct me if i'm wrong.

to me, the jw definition of the overlapping generation teaching is that the lives of the anointed from 1914 overlap with the lives of the anointed right now.

david splane used the example of fred franz and how he finished his "earthly course" in 1992 but while he did, he had a lot of "contemporaries" that outlived him and are currently living today.

to accept that everything around you is an illusion built up on lies or half truths.

but hey, it might feel good to be aware and break free from this illusion.

I've had this discussion with my wife and others. Those that say "it's a good life" and think that simply because there have been some benefits to the way they were brought up are forgetting one thing.

You are abdicating your conscience and decision making responsibilities to whatever the WT says is acceptable. They own your thinking.

When it comes to birthdays and Christmas, well it's not the end of the world I guess, but what about risking your life over blood, what about shunning your child, what about forgoing an education, what about properly planning for your future and every other major decision that will affect- perhaps END - YOUR life?

Being a Witness is not just a lifestyle when you are bleeding out in A&E after an accident, prepared to die, prepared to leave your kids without a parent, prepared to put the whim and whimsy of a bunch of old men above every ounce of common sense and reason you have.

Help! Mike & Kim videos all being deleted by Youtube

due to watchtower flagging the mike & kim videos on youtube for copyright, youtube is giving them 6 days before they are shutting down their entire youtube channel.

can you help with a mass downloading program and then reuploading them on a mirror ?

would hate to lose all those good videos!

I don't watch M&K's channel as I don't actually like their style but once again this is simply corporate muscle flexing on the part of the WT, bully boy tactics designed to shut up criticism and an attempt to remove content where the WT is exposed by their own words. Copyright arguments aside, this is about using overwhelming legal strength to abuse the spirit of a system, in the full knowledge they can out muscle the critic, and put a lid on content that is potentially harmful to the WT.

As expressed elsewhere, they have zero desire to engage with critical voices. They have no intention of considering anything from exJWs and others in a constructive way. They don't have the courage of their convictions and are not prepared to let people examine the evidence and make up their own minds.

What I don't understand is why the WT has not learnt from others? Have they forgotten that you reap what you sow? There are countless examples of where this type of behaviour simply ends up causing significant negative publicity for the organisation concerned. I am sure that one day this repeated tactic will come back to bite them right on the arse.

The "best" outcome to aim for right now is for reform of practices and to make them treat people better. That includes praising them when they move in the right direction or calling out unfair criticism, even defending them on some issues. Some "activists" can't allow themselves to do that but it comes down to what are you in it for and why?

I certainly agree with this however the big difference between say McDonalds and the WTS is that the WTS does not care what the exJW "community" has to say nor do they wish to engage with critics.

The WTS only responds when they are either legally forced to so or it's going to cost them money.

They don't see any need to reform.

SBF you are right about the cross branch donations for literature production. It will be very interesting to see how the UK fares over the coming years now they are not producing the literature but taking it from Germany. Presumably the donation flow will start to go the other way.

I also know from people with first hand experience of working in the UK accounting office that historically the UK has always had a good surplus and sent millions to other branches, including the US. Again, what the future holds is questionable but at least with the requirement for the UK charities to publish their accounts it will be possible to see any changes if they happen.

I have spoken in the past to a member of the WDC I know and have formed an opinion based on things those conversations.

Over the past few years the org have been undertaking a large scale reorganisation and have employed various consultants to develop strategies. They also had a very open policy of encouraging out of the box thinking where nothing was off the table.

In terms of construction this was being manifest in large scale expansion of branch facilities, development of regional translation offices and the idea of a global approach to KH construction. The new halls would portray a different corporate feel and (reading between the lines) offer a more attractive proposition to commercial buyers in the event of resale.

The big problem was that the RBC was full of chiefs and a whole bunch of keen but essentially low skilled workers. Quality control was variable. Congregations would go off plan or local purchasing decisions would reduce the benefit of economies of scale. Some of the branch construction works were showing the value of having full time senior team members and employing outside contractors for part of the works.

Bringing the whole thing to the WDC/RDC/LDC hierarchy has forced a centralisation of ALL construction globally. In conjunction with this the WT made a money grab to not only generate cash assets but also force what should be autonomous congregations into a relationship where it is impossible for them to go off plan and do something themselves. It also brings economies of scale into the operation, which was already there to an extent, but is much more centrally managed now and undertaken by a small procurement team.

The change to the RBC was done under the fanfare of a massive building programme but this was then dealt a blow by the concurrent change to financial approach of the organisation. Literally overnight hundreds of projects were cancelled. Hundreds, if not thousands, of full and part time workers were told they were surplus to requirements. Entire teams both in the field and at Bethels disappeared in a day or two.

The upshot of that is that the scale of the work can now be easily hidden since far fewer people have the inside track.

The RBC went because the GB wanted the US to have control of construction worldwide. It happened prior to the construction downturn but the organisational change suits the way things are now so the GB ain't complaining.

Was talking to someone from there the other day. Seems it was random in the sense the guy had no history or beef with the Witnesses but he did go back home to get the knife when he saw tbe victim working at the hall.
