I've heard the same speculation amongst active JWs, but it doesn't really hold up. AppleTV is, by far, the easiest option to use for screen-casting a tablet (using airplay) when conducting a demonstration on stage.
There are other options out there, but AppleTVs are $99, and it's a no brainer to use them with all iPads, even iPhones.
Other screencast options for mobile devices are cost-prohibitive or are technically complicated.

No idea about the man but I would agree AppleTV is by far the best wifi screencast option. Chromecast is not even close.

Would Apple be really that worried about extra revenue from deploying solutions in the WTS? This is a company that made $7.75 billion in 3 months.

If it was going to be that entrenched then lookout for AppleTV knocking Roku out on the JW TV preferred hardware list..

For all those that think an opportunity was squandered you are mistaken and more than welcome to call up that deluded idiot yourselves and try to "catch" him. For god sakes the man records himself saying dumb shit, what does cedars need to that for!!!??? For those of us who are awake and openly out, this was simply a prank, and that is all it was ever going to be. Nothing more, nothing less.

As I said earlier, kudos to Cedars for getting through. I get it was a prank call but Cedars has demonstrated time and time again that he can put a logical argument together so why not try and make the guy feel a bit more uncomfortable?

I think he would have hung up very quickly but that would have been far less flattering on Morris.

Questions I would have asked (in no particular order):

- please can he explain, using the scriptures only, the basis for the current understanding of the generation

- why does the answer to the question on shunning on JW.ORG fail to point out that disfellowshipped children of Witnesses are to be shunned if they do not live at home?

- why does he not think that Jehovah's Witnesses are creationists?

- why do Jehovah's Witnesses accept blood fractions produced from donated blood yet refuse to donate blood themselves on the basis it should be poured out?

- when will Jehovah's Witnesses provide a rebuttal of all the scientific evidence that humans have been on the earth for far longer than 6000 years

- does he have any sympathy for the victims of child abusers who have remained as Witnesses in good standing even after being proven as abusers?

- how much does he think Candice Conti should be entitled to in damages?

- if one of the primary reasons for preaching is as a warning work and people will be judged on their response to the message, then how does he reconcile the implication that billions of people will be destroyed at Armageddon with the common perception amongst Witnesses that Jehovah will be merciful to many?

Sure, you might have got 10 seconds into the call before he hung up but it says more than having a bit of banter about tight pants.

I just had a thought about the new KH design

i've been trying to figure out the purpose of the new (bland, commercial style) building that the gb is pushing.

it is not a design that attracts attention, nor does it offer a lot in future resale value.

it will be more difficult to build than the wood residential style buildings, meaning they can't use their cheap unskilled labor force for a lot of the work.

If they want to use space/time better, why not have 2 or more congregations using the building (assuming not in a small town far from other villages/towns). Save money by using less buildings. Below are some points churches should consider.

This is absolutely the model they wish to implement as far as possible. I was discussing this with a brother who is part of the impending LDC in the UK just the other week.

It would be better press for them to handle it with grace and humor, but they are so unaccustomed to being criticized or questioned this is their response, to hang up or get angry.
They are very thin skinned.

I actually thought he was pretty good humoured about it. He hung up once he sussed it was an apostate.

I agree with the sentiment that after getting through to Morris, Cedars had a golden opportunity to put him on the spot with anyone of a number of probing questions that would have had journalistic merit. Kudos for getting through but I don't think Morris comes out of it badly at all. Hate to say it, but opportunity wasted.

It's got some half decent AV kit and a Mac Mini. The AV and comms side of a build is going to go up in complexity and price.

Fair enough - where there is a will there is a way I guess. The long and the short of it is that we are all speculating right now. As I say, anything is possible and I am sure the prospect of making dosh from halls whilst they are sitting empty will have been seriously discussed.

Time will tell what the strategy is.

One thing is sure - the WTS has to keep on making the numbers seem big, keep on hyping up the activity, keeping the sheep working hard, keep the donations flowing, ploughing on yet preaching the nearness of the end.

I would never say never but it would be a fundamental change and one perhaps too far right now. The changes over the past few years have been huge on the surface but not changed much underneath. It's still the same top down hierarchy. It's still insular, protective and secretive. Money is still flowing from congregations to head office.

The issues over equality and prejudice are major. If they were to rent space out I am sure that there are dozens of ex Witnesses who would be lining up to request space for any organisation whose presence would embarrass the WTS. Do you see comments boxes or even email addresses on jw,org? That tells you how open they really are.

The dedicated building is also a factor.

The only way I can see them opening their doors is if refusing to do so meant they could not attract charitable tax status.

mmmm - interesting idea but I am not convinced that they will rent out space, not least for the reasons mentioned by Searcher.

There will be something behind the change related to finances but I think it's far more likely to be in the P/L on the resale coupled with ongoing donations.

First brand new Kingdom Hall built

well if you check the new pay attention at the meeting video their hall is one of the 1st.

flat roof, lots of glass and a jw.org logo.

One thing is for sure. Neither hall has enough disabled parking bays. Every congregation I know is full of old ones in wheelchairs and those with ME or (the new fad) fibrowhatever that must be seated in sun loungers. On top of that is all the people with tax payer company cars (it's a scheme in the UK for registered disabled people to get a new car at discount rates - some deserve it, some don't). I think you need at least 30% blue badge parking.
