  Scientology commercial during superbowl

  as preface for those outside the usa, the superbowl is a big deal here in the states.

  commercial spots are extremly expensive and the air time is coveted by advertisers.

  in fact the commercials are a huge draw for non sports fans to watch the game because companies get so creative.. with that as the back drop, the church of scientology ponied up the dough for a superbowl commercial!

  Since my awakening I've made the point many times about the ineffectiveness of the preaching work in actually reaching people and, more importantly, changing their hearts and minds.  I've said that if they WTS really wanted to reach people then they have the money to do a sustained campaign on TV.  I saw figures that said 30 secs in superbowl was $4.5mil.  That's nothing for the WTS.  I wonder how much they could get prime time ads for over 1 month?

  pharrell partners with un for 'international day of happiness'.

  still riding the success of his global hit "happy," is partnering with the united nations foundation to celebrate international day of happiness on march 20th.

  established in 2012 by the united nations general assembly, the day acknowledges that "the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal" and recognizes "the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples," according to the resolution.. pharrell williams gets 'happy' on 'despicable me 2' soundtrack - song premiere.

  I would bet big, big, big money that the video has absolutely nothing to do with Bethel from an official standpoint.  It's just a something someone (or a small group) at Bethel has done for a laugh.  There is not some big conspiracy here.  Not everything has some agenda behind it.

  this is based upon a posting that i saw and read on facebook recently.

  and, the question is: what if life---as you know it---was just one big dream?

  I for one can't imagine I am capable of dreaming the content of books I've never read so critics can write reviews of them in newspapers I will never read.

  Or worked out the history of the world through times I never lived in.

  Or dreamt languages I will never speak.

  Unless they are all blank and, like some quantum mechanics, only assume the written state, a historical narrative or linguistic syntax when I "sample" the data.

  currently there is a measles outbreak in the u.s. the outbreak is clustered into communities where parents choose not to get their children vaccinated.

  vaccination works primarily on herd immunity.

  I was caught up the MMR controversy when my wife was pregnant with our first child.  I remember attending an event in London where a self-proclaimed expert provided a heap of information on it.  We did not get her vaccinated with the triple jab but she has had single vaccinations.

  I don't question anyone's right to be skeptical of doctors and pharmaceutical companies.  I don't think that the commercial goals of parts of the health system always are second place to the best for patients.  I do wonder if there should be more proper research into some of the claims around various vaccinations.  However, as the information about Andrew Wakefield came out I felt completely defrauded.  I do, therefore, get pretty indignant about the pseudo science that seems to be endemic in the anti-vaccination, homoeopathy and alternative medicine arenas.  So much of it smacks of the same sort of thing I have come to see when Witnesses present creation science and pull in the gullible to accept what is clearly wrong.

  well i'm sure we can come up with clever comments that make people feel uncomfortable by serving to decompartmentalize things that have been compartmentalized in the thinking of the average jw.

  or comments that make the cognitive dissonance stand out plainly, these have to be said in innocent manner and with an apparent obliviousness to the contradiction.

  So can we look forward to an increase of comments on here about the latest crazy answer we have heard at the meeting and start wondering if the person is perhaps awake to TTATT?

  Perhaps we should try the Jehovah's Trumpet approach and find something to say that is so out there but has the ring of truth about it.  I would love to come out with something like "we have to take our ministry absolutely seriously.  Can you imagine making indifferent calls on a street of people, then Armageddon coming the next day. As we walk around we see the dogs and the birds feasting on the flesh of those we had only given a casual witness to the day before.  That might just take the edge off our joy of being saved so we have to give these ones a serious witness.  The lives of 7 billion people are in our hands.".

  i was deleted as the cobe after i let my adult child move back home and he admitted that he fornicated under my roof while my wife and i where away on a rbc project.

  of course the elder mode in me kicked him out of the house.. the elders moved quickly to remove me because i was too involved in "theocractic activities", i had neglected my adult son.. i accepted this primarily because i didn't want to serve with a boe that did not want me.

  i was devastated however because it was the only life i knew.

  I was all ready to be subjected to the moronic answers in my hall when I found I could get round the block on our wifi that only allows you to go to jw.org.  I tried using my public VPN service, VyprVPN, and found if I go through its proxy I can surf to my hearts content. I downloaded the latest New Scientist and read that instead.

  Counting service time in a creative way

  couting time and, how to count time while doing as little service as possible is often a hot topic around witnesses.

  i even overheard pioneers discussing about it.

  they call it "creative time counting" (i translated that phrase from a different language so bear with me ;-).

  I just make up a figure and put it down.  That saves even having to do anything.  To be fair I do turn up at one meeting for FS a month or so just to keep the elders off my back.  I then do some "calls". At my house.
