Witnesses Respond After Inferno Consumes Apartment Building in London

jehovah’s witnesses are assisting victims of a catastrophic fire that engulfed the grenfell tower, a 24-story apartment building in the north kensington area of london, in the early morning hours of june 14, 2017. authorities are reporting that at least 79 people were killed.. four witnesses were evacuated from the apartment building, two of whom were residents of grenfell tower.

fortunately, none of them were injured, although the witnesses’ apartments were among those completely destroyed in the blaze.

witnesses that live near the now fire-gutted apartment building provided food, clothing, and monetary aid to their fellow members and their families that were affected.

Spiritual comfort is filling a gap. After all, the rest of the community, and indeed people from literally hundreds of miles around, came and gave physical and material support in the hours and days after the event to the point where the local voluntary organisations filling the void left by the useless local council simply could not handle the amount of donations.

What these people who had escaped with just the clothes on their back, escaped with their lives, escaped when others in their family had perished really lacked was a Watchtower. What they needed most of all, the hole that had been left by the rest of the relief effort was some patronising words about suffering coming to an end "very soon now"(© WTBTS), God really cared about them and the efforts of the countless kind hearted people around them was just a bit of a sticking plaster on the situation.

Come on people. How dare you be so unfair. Those Witnesses saw the need and filled it.

Behind Closed Doors

behind closed doors my dad, an elder, was so emotionally abusive that as a child i once got out of bed to get a knife from the kitchen so i could stop the abuse once and for all.

i cried, and didn't go through with it.. behind closed doors, my next door neighbors, the family that "brought us into the truth" was yelling and screaming constantly.

he hit her once while we kids played out back.

Behind closed doors I know of pre-teen girls who are self-harming, one even took an overdose recently.

Behind closed doors I know of several tyrannical men who were highly manipulative, verbal and physical bullies towards their long suffering wives and terrified children.

Behind closed doors I know of vindictive elders, lording over as many as possible.

Behind closed doors I know of more and more people looking for a way out.

By posing, they pander to that hero worship and ,no doubt, feel good. OK, that is human, but they are supposed to be above that. In the old days I suggest such a request would be politely declined.

Not sure about that. Over the years I've seen several snaps of people with old GB members.

The biggest differences are that (a) they are recognised and (b) everyone has a camera and is not shy about using it.

Until the current crop put themselves on telly they could be far more anonymous. I agree that they could choose not to have a photo but the fact that they do is not proof that they seek fame in itself.

TBH I am not sure the GB run around looking for photo ops. From what I witnessed at Twickenham 3 or 4 years ago at the international convention was the almost hysterical reaction of the R&F when seeing one of the GB (in this case Sam Herd). It's them that want the photos. In a time where it is possible for any of us to have an online video presence it's not surprising we see so much more of them and it's human nature to react like this when in close proximity to someone considered to be important.

I am sure the egos of the GB are nicely boosted and they are certainly no shrinking violets but it's all just a reflection of society and contemporary culture as a whole.

What's disappointing is that no one seems keen to ask any questions of the GB. I'd love to ask them any one of a number of pointed questions. Then take a selfie whilst they run away.

Well my own slide into inactivity has been parroted back to me as "the love of the greater number cooling off".

Unfortunately whatever the figures say, whatever positions move to ones 180 degrees in the opposite direction, however reality differs from expectations the cognitive dissonance is so strong that everything signifies an outworking of Jehovah's purpose.

It's of interest to us looking in to see how perhaps the numbers reflect the malaise but for most of those inside it means nothing.

I just happen to know one of the names mentioned in the article about the Hartlepool jewellers. He has a brother dahn sarf who equally represents everything bad about what happens to blokes when they become elders. Their late father reached a rare level of notoriety for his shenanigans as well.

I gave up on any sentimental ideas about CO/DOs of the past years ago.

Some are worse than others. Some might have good motives. Some are not intrinsically vindictive, nasty people.

What they all are however are company men. They rarely do the morally right thing. They follow the company line and ensure elders err on the side of judgementalism rather than compassion. Even when injustices occur and the CO/DO steps in the motive is not looking stupid in the eyes of Bethel rather than the individual concerned.

Then there are the "characters", the so called funny ones, the charismatic speakers. These are the worst. Loved by masses but invariably hatchet men behind the scenes, in love with the sound of their own voices and egos.

Some would be nice out of company colours, some are idiots, most are misguided but a significant portion are simply bastards at best and proper c**** at worst.

2017 International Regional Convention, Toronto – Entertainment at Sony Centre

i’ve been hearing from several very reliable sources that there will be an exclusive elite gala entertainment event hosted by the watch tower organization, featuring specially chosen jehovah’s witnesses of outstanding talent as well as spiritual reputation, at the sony centre (formerly called the o’keefe centre) in toronto, ontario (canada) as a special “after hours” addition to the 2017 special international convention.. those chosen have to meet very strict criteria, including, not so much technical and popular talents, but, rather, their spiritual maturity which can be easily and practically related to by the audience (i.e., degree of conformity – you know what i mean!).

a notable and very well-known professional “super star” from some other country (i don’t know which one) who has achieved highly recognized and popular talent was surprisingly not chosen to participate in the extra entertainment program, whereas other performers with rather ho-hum musical abilities ended up being selected, ostensibly for their altruistic and “theocratic” qualities.

(something tells me that there is going to be some jealousy and indignant, hard feelings over this rather authoritarian, arbitrary selection process.

I wouldn't get too hung up on conspiracy theories. If this rumour is true is simply an evolution of what has been happening over and over again at International Conventions for several years now. We've seen visiting delegates "treated" to shows at assembly halls and other locations featuring local performers for entertainment and socialisation purposes.

The venue would obviously be a step up from previous efforts but I don't see much more in it than that. I am sure there would be donation boxes around and people would feel motivated to donate but if they really wanted to make money then an assembly hall would be the ideal location.

Don't get me wrong, I am sure they will have costed it out and won't be doing it for break-even or worse but I would say it's more about building a buzz around the convention as a whole and making it a desirable objective, something that can then be used to market future events.

Yes the religion is changing but the big change is in the emotional and aspirational aspects. Doctrine is out the window in favour of regular hits of emotional highs. For me the money side has always been there in one form or another, some of the recent money grabs accepted.
