Hateful or not the video does feed the notion that homosexuality is a greater "sin" than heterosexual relations outside of marriage. I note no video has been produced to suggest how to explain to a child why men and women living together outside of marriage is wrong. No other forms of sexual relationships unacceptable to Witnesses were brought up or used to provide a comparative equality of sin in Jehovah's eyes.

Worse still is giving a young kid the black and white message that gay people can change. Of course this means celibacy rather than some "cure" but that is not even hinted at nor is it even really within the comprehension of such a young child. To them, through this video, "gay" is a choice that an be changed.

I agree in principle with Cofty's argument regarding the risk of over egging the moral outrage however please also let's not accidentally mitigate the pernicious underlying message in this video that gays are not welcome in Jehovah's organisation or in his new world of cuddly lions. It is feeding stereotypes and forming a pattern of thought that will lead to predjuice and even outright hated.

The great thing about this video is that it shows that anyone who is doing anything that the Bible condemns can't get through the big A. It is a clear example of the reality of Armageddon as requiring the destruction of billions and the truth about what Witness doctrine really teaches despite the protestations that it's all up to God to judge and won't kill anyone deserving of life.

So the next time a Witness throws that wishy washy line at you just use their own kids video against them and ask them what it's really saying about who can get on the narrow road to life found by few as compared to the broad and spacious road full of billions of people trudging off to destruction

Branch Vists the new Regional Convention?

so there was a mention yesterday about "next year's" branch visit and this being streamed.. is there a chance these will become the new regional convention?

- branches being closed down or downsized.

That's a good point and probably the number one reason for keeping them the way they are but I don't think anything is sacrosanct and perhaps the financial impact is not as great as we might think or is there is (or has been) a slide in donations at the conventions.

Is there a chance these will become the new Regional Convention? Consider the evidence:

- branches being closed down or downsized

- emergence of "super branches" - US, Japan, South Africa, Germany

- streaming technology increasingly in place in halls and the technology being used more and more

- use of GB helpers to go to branches instead of it having to be GB members

- desire to reduce the overhead of organising large stadium events indicated by increasing "simplification" and use of pre-prepared video presentations

- the removal of the "district" both as a name and as an administrative grouping with a DO. Region can be as large or small as they want

If you had a two day event you could probably hit all the people in a branch territory in two weekends with a combination of assembly hall and kingdom hall presentations.

So we may have just be having a new yearly special meeting to listen to a branch visit session or could this be the latest in a line of baby steps to moving the RC away from stadiums to halls?

But the observation that for some odd reason Jehovah God is able to determine the operation of every particle in the universe yet can't get the GB to write anything down that remains consistent and truthful is certainly true.

Great review Saltheart. I agree 100%. I hate to say it but I quite enjoyed the last talk in as much as it focused on the side of Christianity which reflects humanism. Of course it suggested these qualities are something "the world" cannot hope to emulate and certainly did not make me suddenly think perhaps the organisation is OK after all but it was one of the most thoughtful talks I have heard in long, long time.

The Chelmsford update was laughable however.

ours started out with matt.

25:23. he brought out that "good and faithful slave" was talking about the anointed but wait for it.........yes the principle can be applied to our cong.

well tonight it was about getting all the territories worked once a year.

Ours was a "sit down and shut up" ball break.

Last week a long standing elder (40+ years) was deleted for saying a few words at the funeral of friend (a UBM who attended the hall reasonably regularly) which subsequently had a pastor say some words. No other witnesses at the funeral were offended but when a another elder overheard a conversation about it he jumped on it and teamed up with his cronies to stab this brother in the back and get him chucked off for "interfaith".

There was no mercy shown, no understanding or reasonableness. Bizarrely the body were told to vote on it yet also told it was a black and white issue. The elder was told if he disagreed with the BoE decision and sought an appeal then he would be supporting interfaith and would face a JC and would be disfellowshipped if not repentant.

So last week this was announced. This week, the elder who kicked this all off gave the local needs and presented the account as a "scenario" then launched into a tirade about anyone disagreeing with the BoE would be guilty of causing divisions.

So the local needs was used to bully everyone to ensure no one complains or murmurs against the callous behaviour of the ringleaders.

Makes you sick.
